I knew Horizon would review well. A lot of reviews for Daybreak 2 were basically like "yeah this one sucks but i heard the next ones amazing!!!" so the reviewers who were fanboys basically already went into it wanting to love it and for it to "redeem Trails" which I'm already seeing in the Horizon reviews.I really don't get the high praise for the story. More than any other Trails game I felt like Horizon was intentionally trying to pump the brakes and stretch it out as much as humanly possible just so they could end it with their cliffhanger and sell the next game. Like Kais story legitimately could have been told in like 10 hours as a prologue for the actual game. The characters are still lacking tons of significant development. I like the ASO but god I want to hear more out of them besides jokes finally.The route system didn't really feel like it added anything. It felt like a desperate compromise from Falcom to try to win back old fans by appealing to nostalgia but they also didn't want to make those routes overshadow the main cast either so it just feels like a lame compromise. Either make a 3rd Calvard game properly or make Hajimari 2 instead of trying to do both and make everything unfocused.Speaking of Hajimari, the endless side questing needs to be either cut out or significantly reduced. That and the Gartens just utterly murder the pacing but it's done on purpose just so they can stretch it all out further.

The template-based, outsourced writing is by far the biggest issues this series suffers from. Tens of new random writers each game adhering to character templates. The issue is even highlighted in the Sky 1st remake, where at least 95% of the script is from 2004. That's how big of an issue it actually is.When this changes, that's when Falcom walk the path of redemption. Increasing their output to at least 2 games each year will result in the exact opposite.
