And that's cool and all, it's clear Kim is trying to emulate the diagetic fiction of Dante throwing a bunch of sinners at a problem and reviving them when they die by doing this and including mandatory damage with unbreakables and unavoidable status affliction.But this design kind of conflicts with how many modern ID's are designed. A lot of modern ID's are clearly meant to "ramp", building up some kind of resource with skill one and two and then cashing it in with a transformation, or a big skill three, or anything like that. Charge ID's gaining charge potency, ID's needing to meet certain conditions to activate Shiin, skills with a bunch of damage multipliers based on conditions met over the course of the fight. Many of these things fall kind of flat if you get to what's supposed to be a big payoff turn and it happens to come on a turn where a boss is doing their big hard hitting cutscene move and you have to clash with an ego or defense skill.The boss fights in Ruina felt a bit better, since every librarian had multiple skill slots, and thus could go through their own "rotation" much easier. It'd be easier to design fancy ID's like a lot of the recent ones have been, and still let them showcase their cool flashy animations, if there were only a few on stage at once, but they got multiple skill slots and could move through their build up and payoff more smoothly, even working around boss mechanics
