I think the biggest problems cantos have in general is that the dungeon, by their very design, have to take the lion's share of the plot from the other parts. I think Canto 8 had the right idea in putting it in the middle even if the part 3 was lacking a bit, since otherwise we just get the 5 and 7 issue of everything being backloaded
I wish i could accurate judge canto 8, but i hate china wank so much, and the cultivation intervallo only made it worse.

Personally, Canto 9's main issue for me is just the complete and utter lack of any mook variation.It's just the same retards the entire Part 1 and 2 with the variation being design and them having Pink Shoes added onto them. And obviously the Abnos are repeats even if they have new stuff added on.That aside, most of my other issues (not really anything massive in Part 1 and 2 story-wise besides the safe) can be solved just by Part 3 answering them, just like how Canto 4 is ENTIRELY carried by the story of its Part 3 dungeon (We know more about Ryoshu right now than we did about Yi Sang before we got his dungeon in his part 3 btw.)
