I don't think so. It's not game-dev, but something like this happened with music either last year or the year prior.
tl;dr is that music gear comes with demo tracks a lot of times, and those are considered to be a similar license to cc0. someone decided to upload those demo tracks as original creations to spotify and was allowed to make money off of them.

Why do you think some of us simply never post our game here. I'm not interested in showing my game to a handful of actual lunatics who have never made anything and literally sit around seething about whatever devs here are on the GMI trajectory. agdg isn't "dead" though necessarily it's just started serving a different function as a general hangout where ocassionally you can find a handful of actual gamedevs, but most of the time almost all the time there are even more burnouts and losers who wish they could take their shot but already know they suck.

It creates a kind of air like any other place in the world where winners come to win and losers continue to hang around even though they will never win. It's a watering hole.

All I really want from game dev is to make friends. Actual real world friends I can physically hang out with. Imagine having a group of 3-4 devs you could get dinner with a few times a month and talk about your games and your plans for the future. Visual novel was my first thought. It seems to be much heavier on the art side than on programming, can be tuned into NSFW territory and finding a similar game built on a popular engine that you can use as a template shouldn't be an issue.

Getting familiar with either simple and specialized (like RPG Maker) or more complex but widely popular engines (like Godot or Unity) is probably your best bet. Plenty of learning materials and games to check out. When I started following this one back when it first appeared on Steam I had no idea it was actually an RPG Maker game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2299900/Felvidek/ Like 90% of it was made by a sole developer, he had a co-writer for the story and another dude composing music but that's it.

Programming is what it is and there's no shortcuts. I believe most people give up too easily and they probably bite more than they can chew from the get go. Had they started with some simple scripting language their outlook would've been different but again, if you're not willing to put the work in to learn and focus on running from the grind instead the whole project is dead on arrival. Then your only option is to accept your shortcoming as the major bottleneck it is and align your ambitious to it.

A couple small issues with your engine can lead to 3 hours of troubleshooting. In those scenarios AI can certainly give you the right answer but it can't literally click through your engine and solve every mystery.

But if everything goes smoothly, I can certainly imagine making a game in 5 hours is possible yes. A really really bad game.

Instead of relying on jumpscares, make a horror roguelite where dying loses all of your progress.
The scariest moments I've had in video games were in Minecraft hardcore mode. The longer you play, the more paranoid you get about losing all of your progress.

The threat of losing all of your progress makes everything much scarier than the threat of... hearing loud noises.
You can still use creepy ambiance and creatures jumping into view from out of nowhere to keep the player on edge, not relying on jumpscares doesn't limit you much.

I have a fake spotlight with two sprites. One is a white cone, and the other is white circle. I have a mask on the ground so the cone gets cut off. The cone is rotating left and right and the circle is positioned on the ground where the cone is directed. The problem is, the masking becomes visible when the cone goes through the ground. (vertical line through the bottom circle, in the image) Is there a way I can combine these two sprites? Or what can I do as a workaround for this?

I think what I need is some sort of color value max clamping. I forgot the actual name. They should have it in photoshop layer modes. Also I thought of a soft mask but unity doesn't have it I guess and I don't know about shaders well enough to make my own.

I found it. I made both circle's and cone's shaders particle/alpha blended but it didn't do any sort of merged effect. I fiddled with the particle factor too.

Sunday is the day when almost everyone is living the neet life but I was born in it, moulded by it. I had to take a bus to the bakery because the usual stores are closed and my car's been frozen for a while. Today I'll continue working on important art for my game. I say it's important but art really isn't in my game's case. IT didn't do much. The masking is not 'smooth' masking so whatever you do the transition shows itself. I tried both making it bigger and smaller, if you make bigger then cone cuts off early, if you make circle smaller, the horizontal line shows up. If I make it smaller only in y axis the result goes back to being the same. Luckily the spotlights move fast so they won't be noticeable that much.
I tried bunch of other combinations but no it doesn't work. Thanks again.

This is why I try very hard to never write code that can't be debugged pretty quick with breakpoints. I've avoided using listeners on my current game because I didn't want code popping off from who knows where, for who knows why. But in my next game I really will need to have them, so I looked into how to pass extra data with them so I always know where they come from. I never return something like if x, true, else y. I do that statement above the return and return the bool, so I always know at a quick glance what the actual value is. I don't slow myself down writing cute code, everything must be clear at a glance.

Turns out If you set it to loop, OnComplete OnRewind etc never gets called. Dotween doesn't consider it to be completed. You have to set it to loop once. And OnComplete you call Rewind(), and On Rewind you call Play() etc.

- It's just that for me Stardew Valley was kind of my first game that I released to the public and it blew up so much it kind of undermined the normal progression that a person would have throughout their life, to where, you know, the Stardew Valley success would be something I would hope would be at the apex of my whole career, not at the very beginning. It created some unique problems for me, I don't mean to complain because obviously I'm really grateful that it was so successful...

Another technique is to draw something from memory, because that way your design will have the details that function and matter.
Another design rule is to limit yourself to NES limitations, in the sense to have max 5 unique colors to use.
I find those tricks good enough to design memorable things.

In the end, a memorable design for a character is very similar to designing a memorable logo in graphic design.

Progress:
Spent the last ~13 Hours breaking my Neck over converting UV Coordinates, before finally accidentally finding book.leveldesignbook.com, solving all my Problems in around 10 Minutes by switching to Valve220. Am I missing something, or why isn't this in the AGDG Ressources?
I don't know, it wasn't anything hard to do, or complicated, I just kind of went in circles continously I guess. Good Reminder to occassionally take a break to free your Head a bit when you get stuck.
Anyway, BSP Splitting works, UVs properly work, all that's left not today tho is exporting/importing into Age3D, and then adjusting the renderer to handle level Geometry.

I'm surprised to report that the surge of AI shit in H games seems to be slowing down. It looks like we've reached temporary market saturation for people who want to use it and I guess it's no surprise that those people are lazy as fuck and can't be bothered to make anything past the initial demo release.

His IP has literally zero value for its story or characters so it's irrelevant, it's always been a gameplay first game and he could always make another one even without the "risk of rain" name.
Making games is a stressful endeavor takes a lot of work and effort, you should know this, and unlike you he actually had some huge successes and now people have higher expectations of his next works.
He enjoyed the rockstar game dev life for some 15 years, and got tired of it, I don't see the problem. Valve is literally one of the highest salary per employee companies in the world alongside OnlyFans, it's not easy at all to get into there, it's not like he became some league of legends developer or some shit. Good on him, I'd do the same if I wanted to build more connections in the industry.

To display a Texture on a Triangle, you need to give the 3 Vertices of the Triangle a Location in the Texture Space to reference. And .map doesn't safe Vertices or uv Locations, just infinite Planes with a scale, rotation and offset on the Texture. So I had to convert that into uv Locations to properly display Textures.
the Red/Green gradients are just there to clearly showcase in Blender where the UV Locations lie, so I don't have to write a stupendous Testcase and compare all the Locations as Numbers by Hand.

It's a well-known phenomena. The key is being comfortable with the thought that your legacy-defining piece might've been born already, and treating every new one as an addition to that. If some people say this makes you a one-hit wonder then so be it.
This is not to say you shouldn't be ambitious and try to surpass yourself with each new release, just accept that no matter how high you fly later on in terms of product quality and skill the impact will unlikely to be anywhere near it was with your major hit.

I enjoy video games too much to be able to make a good one. My tolerance is very high. I truly enjoy almost every single game I play. I only choose some games over others because I don't have enough time or energy to fully enjoy them. For example, if I only have 30 minutes to game, I'll play a quick match of Overwatch, but if I have a full day available, I'll immerse myself in an RPG. If I'm tired, I'll play a casual game. If I have energy, I'll play something difficult. I see games with poor ratings, and experience confusion, as I still enjoyed playing them. Even if the initial playing period is unpleasant, I adapt quickly. A game I'm not enjoying at the beginning, can quickly become a game I love at the end. This makes it difficult for me to make "good" games, since my standards are so low. A game I create, I will think is good. Then I release it, and receive poor reception and negative reviews. Lots of suggestions on how it should have been made instead, when I saw no problem with it. This is a major problem I deal with. Playtesting is the solution, but I do not want to change. I will to keep making games I enjoy. As disappointing as it is for me to say, if the player doesn't enjoy the game, I will not make any attempts to appease them. My process will not change.

Managed to make this whatever this is game from an idea I had at work today.
I've never made a game before and I think this seemed a lot more fun in my head but I'll give it a few more days and see what comes out it.
I think it's pretty decent for a first attempt at making anything really.

I didn't really explain it. You just hit keypad keys that correspond to the same square. It adds the total and you can either use it to heal yourself or damage the enemy.
The enemy is pretty basic and just attacks for 5 every second and freezes a square every 2.5? seconds.
I have more ideas for different enemies and other things that can happen with the numbers you send such as bonuses for prime numbers or repeating digits.
Multiple enemies is also an idea.

Have you seen some of the animations from Deltarune? Just one boss fight in that game would cost more (in contractor payments) than the entire budget of some top DD entries we have. He also has a dedicated team of 20 paid playtesters.

There isn't any right now. As long as you press numbers fast and remember to go to heal you can live forever. I could crank the freeze up right now to make it hard but there's no real reason to. I think when I add in other attacks and enemies it'll become an actual challenge or putting enemy HP high enough that you need to aim for prime numbers so it becomes a math challenge.
