I think the greatest strength of this VN, especially compared to TtT1, is the breadth of its politics. In TtT1, the dynamic is incredibly simple: the Empire acts as a faceless mass of soldiers that appears and disappears as needed, while the protagonists, the Gael tribe, are little more than generic tribesmen, lacking both political structure and character depth. The Empire is portrayed as one-dimensionally evil, and the Gaels as noble savages.In TtT2 the Empire feels like an actual state that does what it needs to survive, with a myriad of factions (the Divine Order, the tribes, the military, the technocrats, etc.) vying for control of the Imperial system to further their own goals. The VN also details on the specific policies of the empire, such as forced conversions (reminiscent of the Christianization of the Roman Empire), the enlistment and resettlement of the foederati, and its foreign relations with the border tribes. This produces two intertwined conflicts: the external Hispanian revolt, and the internal struggle among factions within a system slowly collapsing under its own weight. It all comes together to form an enemy that is not only threatening as an adversary to the Hispanians, but also sympathetic, as you see people of all types trying to reform the failing but still hegemonic imperial system. There's also a greater focus here on the logistics of the rebels - one of Hamil's first acts as Hispania's sovereign is to demolish a major bridge connecting his territory to that of the Empire. The Barca faction spends time filling out census data, visiting important cities to improve morale, and opening new mines to increase arms production. Compare this to TtT1, where a good 20% of the VN is spent hunting crab meat even though they're supposed to be at war with the most powerful nation in the continent. I still don't think TtT2's quite as good as Uta2/3 overall, but it's hard to hate it for that when almost nothing is.

You know, I always found Natsumi the least interesting of the main trio (which isn't to say she's bad, or even not great, just not as fantastic as the other two), but she's really doing some great stuff in this route. Figuring out Necro being able to hijack her senses, coming up ploys to trick Necro on the fly, it's all excellent. I think Shigatsu Youka is a way better name than Necro although both are chuuni as hell.

All I'm gonna say is that my life improved ever since I stopped posting here often. I only check this thread one or twice a month.

I just finished Muv-Luv Extra and Unlimited. Even though I tried the series because I was looking for military sci fi, I really liked Extra, although it was flawed. I would say the main issues I encountered were that the two main routes were basically the same, while the other girls all got their own fully fledged side stories. I didn't have any issues with the length even though I haven't read many VNs, it felt well-paced for the most part and I liked doing all of the routes, although I found Chizuru to be an unlikeable character and cared for her arc least of all. I was pretty hyped to get into Unlimited considering all I'd read said that Extra was a slog for most people before the "real" content, and especially since the genre was what I was in it for, but I found Unlimited quite disappointing. The alternate universe gimmick meant that Extra was basically pointless, since all of the girls are actually different people with completely different backstories and somewhat different personalities. The one thing I'll say here is that best girl (Kei) was improved by this, because her character was the best but they gave her a backstory in Extra where some rich doctor made her his onahole before you got the sloppy seconds. None of the girls are properly fleshed out because they don't get their own routes, and the main girl from the previous game doesn't even appear (obviously she does, but not as herself in that game). Even worse, I sat through hours of training bullshit and "I'm not good enough to be a soldier" melodrama from the MC with his gender swapping friend only for him to never actually fight the aliens, or even see one at all. Not only this, but the mystery with Sumika's disappearance, the brain jar, and the MC getting memories of events he didn't experience in the original universe weren't explained. I'm sure the response will be to read Alternative, but I'm on the fence right now.

Finally, 80% of the way there.At this point my guess is that this is the second-last route that'll take me up to 90% or so and wrap the plot up, and the last 10% will be an epilogue. The AI race is making me anxious about the price of computer parts, and I've been scrambling looking at benchmarks and deciding what parts to buy. That's what I was doing, but then I remembered I don't actually like modern games that much. Or rather it feels like there haven't been must-play games in like, 10 years. Then I move over to thinking about using the parts for LLM models, specifically for translating visual novels. But getting a powerhouse PC for that seems like the dumbest thing you can do. You either have to go all the way, 128-GB RAM 48-GB VRAM etc, or else it's just bad. And what you can get from just a $20 subscription is probably better and not to mention much easier to set-up. There's no way you can get a 5060 or something card and get results on the level of Gemini or Grok. So put simply, the name of the game over here is to not upgrade. Just Grok it.
