Just got to episode 21 of adventure. Up until this point it's been pretty much everything I'd expect. But oh man i wasn't expecting an episode like this. almost movie-like production with great animation, composition and direction, the odd, desaturated lighting that creates a surreal, uneasy atmosphere. Koromon's silly expressions. This was such a treat.found out it was directed by the guy that made the first digimon movie, which i loved. I didn't catch it at first but as i was rewatching i realized Hikari's whistle is a callback to that movie and the reason she knows Koromon. blew my fucking mindi think this episode encapsulates some of the main reasons why i like digimon, the sense of mystery and wonder, on top of the lack of restraints to take the series on unexpected or more "mature" directions. good shit man

Beast Spirits always felt better as prefects to me so I like how Gigasmon is a perfect in this. Also people getting a frontier spirit as an actual partner fixes the that problem with Frontier. And I loved the designs of all the frontier Digimon now but at the time it was too different that I dropped Digimon completely as a kid. I was happy Ranamon got in TS too
