CS4 has issues, but the game concludes its narrative pieces and is made better by the subsequent game. Something the previous arc can’t claim.

If you are who I think you are you are going to bring up the Iron Bloods, and I don't think wrapping up their character arcs was all that great. Nor does that make CS4 better in any way.
>>553634416Whether you think it was great or not it still did that duty well. It gave explanations and even more monologues for what they thought of Osbornes plan and crusade. Lecters was the one that was much needed. Learning Osbornes plan was good to to clarify the confusing bits from cs4 in his daydream. Grimwood was okay in reverie but not as fleshed out as the ironbloods and Rean and ash(daydream).

Like Cold Steel 4 ends on a big wedding and a million characters are there. Cool. Reverie brings up the point of>Wait, why the fuck wasn't Schera's best friend Aina at the wedding? Of course the real life reason is that Falcom obviously forgot such a minor NPC at the time of making CS4, but it is an odd situation in-universe to say the least. There's a whole bunch of little oddities like that that Reverie explains, or little character arcs that are concluded since Cold Steel 4 didn't have time for them in the main story.

It doesn’t excuse cs4 having bad pacing but it’s good if you like the npcs and wanted to visit the other part of heimdallr and Ymir

To me Reverie is the very clear result of the extremely bloated writing the CS arc has. I think ideally CS3 and 4 could have done enough to cover the ground 3 (essentially the ending as everything else is basically filler "experiments"), 4 and Reverie combined all cover. If the writing was less bloated and if they had the balls to ditch the bracer-esque formula by the time IV ended they would have found a relevant way to have the SSS liberate Crossbell alongside Rean bringing down Osborne.

Especially Rufus’ motivations and Osbornes plan. Cs4 also doesn’t feel incomplete because reverie finishes up the mentioned people’s character arcs. Most people didn’t know that reverie was essentially cs5 or that it was a thing when cs4 first came
