If you romance Cassia, you get like ten years to enjoy her being even vaguely cute and five or four years when she's still sexable. She's already farther along the whole mutation pipeline than average navigator.

>>
>>553772618
>It's also quite shallow to view it solely in terms of how cute she is.
Not really? It's not like she just gets old so her tits get saggy and having her around becomes uncool. Her progressing mutations mean you and her will have less and less contact beyond just talking, and you will will have to watch as person you love loses her human shape piece by piece. At least her mental faculties aren't going anywhere but that is still a very sad and ultimately lonely life, which is what makes the romance so depressing and tragic.
>>
>>553772983
It's not stated anywhere that she actually becomes fully aquatic eventually. At worst she'll become some cross between Fallout ghoul/Deep One/Slenderman.
>>
>>553773235
>you will will have to watch as person you love loses her human shape piece by piece. At least her mental faculties aren't going anywhere but that is still a very sad and ultimately lonely life
Yes, obviously. That is why I said "the realities of the romance". The shallow part is boiling down what you just described as:
>you get like ten years to enjoy her being even vaguely cute and five or four years when she's still sexable
>>
>>553773386

>Apologizing to lowly monk'ghei for your mistakes

>>553776743
If you're RT is a psyker they themselves will expire in like 50 years max
Pretty sure all of them have their lives either cut short or psyker powers make them have shorter lifespans anyway
>>
>>553776898
I have biomancy it's fine
>>
>>553776898
The RT is built different, and some psykers still live for centuries in 40k. Astropaths get burnt out quickly, but you don't have to be a SM Librarian to live a long time as a psyker. Plenty of Inquisitor psykers that live for centuries.
>>
>>553776743
The pessimism is because she's already heavily mutated when you first meet her and she's young.
Then you tack on the fact she's obscenely powerfuland warped by a xenos artefact at said age she can only get worse.
>>
>>553776336
There should have been at least
- dream sequence where you can flirt with her
- dream sequence where you can continue flirting and kiss
- one sex scene where she sneaks into your bedroom in Drezen pre-Abyss for a quick meeting and gives you a handjob
- one sex scene where you meet up in secret during your stay in Alushinyrra (makeout and blowjob
- another sex scene in Nocticula's palace if you impress her enough during the meeting (titjob)
- another sex scene in Drezen after you come back (blowjob into cowgirl, soft femdom)
- passionate tryst in her lab (missionary, leglock)
I mean, that's just good game design.
>>
i dont know what yall talk about but you guys are chill and this might be my new home for now

>>553777214
>she can only get worse.
Or not. Her mutations might have been designed in at conception by Tisiphone. The alien artifact might be protecting her from decaying, or, alternatively, she got better after it's removal. At any rate, the difference between 400 years of natural lifespan and 15 years anons are willing to give her is unreasonable.

Because that's not how it works? Navigators get ugly fast and then live as cryptids.
Cassia is already much more mutated than a normal navigator would be at her age, plus she's very powerful as a psyker and has other things going on for her too.

Uninstalled WotR after about an hour of playing the game. Didnt even get out of the crevice you fall into immediately before recruiting the paladin with the annoying voice and woman that very obviously stabbed a guy to death.

Constantly stumbling into combat encounters with single enemies just gave me Kingmaker flashbacks where the dungeons forced you into combat every room with 3 shmucks that wastes your time and is designed to be steamrolled through via rtwp combat (I always play turn based because rtwp is cock and ball troture and anyone who likes it is wrong) but just constantly interrupts your exploration flow.

They give you the tools to trivialize simple encounters. Only the strong one will be longer then 1-2 turns.
Earlygame = You see 5 bugs - 10 turns of slapping each other with "miss!"

I don't think a remake of PST would really need to focus on the combat, it's never been what the game's known for
Easy money would be to just make it fully voiced (since having to read most dialogue is a big hurdle for many these days) and making it look more modern in terms of graphics. They wouldn't have to do anything else

Yes but it's a developmental issue.
Look at fallout 4, they admitted the reason NPC's have almost nothing to say is because for every 1 line of dialogue they did they also had to create 4 responses for the protagonist.

For bigger studios it's not a huge hurdle, for smaller it's the difference between your character being a Pasqal or an Argenta.

Voicework takes money from the budget.
More voice work = need more budget.
Less dialogue = less budget used.

The point I failed to convey is that because they had to voice the shitty protagonist is that every NPC had almost 0 dialogue with all of the money having to be split between the voiced protagonist and everyone else, even if you cut the protag out you'd get maybe two or three more sentences from NPC's to make up for it.

Modern CRPGs are far more dialogue heavy and the amount of things someone gets to say is constrained largely by where the writer wants to take them. That changes when you suddenly need to contract someone to speak it all. Not every single game gets to be in a crowd funded early access for 4 years which is why BG3 generated so much seethe from developers and even owlcat was lamenting about how much they hate that they have to voice all of Dark Heresy because of it.
And while games in this genre have been fully voiced in the past, they also had significantly less dialogue. I'd rather a game have more to read than less for some ADHD tard scrolling tiktok during a loredump.
>>553796909

The voiced protagonist took up a huge swath of the games voiced dialogue budget which adversely affected what people had to say, even if you removed him you'd still have far less for NPC's to say than a mix of dialogue and text based conversations.
Videogame development isn't free, they're going to tell you to cut lines once you go past a certain word count.
>>

Then I'm a disgusting furry, because Human and elf bitches are boring and always suck and don't fucking belong as companions in FANTASY or SCI-FI.
Give me Kitsune, Driders, Centaurs, Goblins, Cat-Folk, aliens, snake women, lizard ladies, fucking anything besides Human cunts or Elven sluts. I'm fucking sick of seeing them, what's the point of engaging in a fantastical setting if all the women are just generic dime-a-dozen conventionally attractive Human women?
Are there any CRPGs with actually weird and exotic companions instead of a bunch of Humans and elves? I can't seem to find all that many.

The class reactivity in Icewind Dale is nice. A bard has unique dialogue options and can gain a bunch of XP for the party due to song knowledge and also tell a bardic tale to a random townsperson for a reward.
The mod companions also have nice interjections in places and can be talked and to each other if supported by Crossmod Banter to so they make the game feel alive.

She’s a hypocrite. She’s always crying about how everyone wants to plap her but the second she no longer gets that sort of attention she throws a fit. Her romance also only properly starts after this point meaning if she wasn’t mutilated she wouldn’t have given you the time of day.

The start of the romance is her bringing up her ex and how amazing he was and how she basically jumped into bed with him. Meanwhile she gives you constant shit tests before you can even touch her. The final part of her romance is her getting mad at you because in her own words “being with a mercenary (her ex) is so much easier than being with a king (you)” And the ONLY way to calm her down is to propose to her on the spot otherwise she breaks up with you. And if she does break up with you she gets all sad and depressed because you didn’t fight hard enough for her.

Basically she’s one giant woman moment.

sorry i meant to say sigils

I think lantry can create basic sigils
problem with sigils is that you don't make a lot of types available in the beginning
so only Eb and Lantry can cast AoE type spells
but they can craft sigils that other characters can use provided they have sufficient lore

you have enough time to complete the quest

You can buy them too and if I'm right, it's randomised in some shops meaning you can even buy the Apocalypse tier spells that you wouldn't be able to cast until midgame at the start.

I saw Regill Derenge at an alchemy shop in Kenabres yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask to sketch him or anything.
He said, “Every betrayer has their own sob story to excuse their actions. And each one thinks they are different from the rest, that they alone should be understood and shown mercy. I'm sick of hearing it.”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “The side of good isn't weak, it's you” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him grumbling as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Cure Serious Wounds potions in his hands without paying.
The tiefling at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Paralictor, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be bleaching and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the potions and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any demonic infetterence,” and then turned around and glared at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each potion and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by smiting chaos really loudly.

That's not what happened. The Emperor doesn't make decisions like that, he's detached from the details of the events of the galaxy and is too busy fighting deamons and looking at the big picture. He's also generally supportive of efforts that advance humanity as a species, and you making the Koronus expanse a profitable and efficient state would generally be what he approves of, even if you have some eldar running around.

What actually happened is that the bureaucracy that the Emperor actually hates saw that you were doing fine on your own without them, so in order to keep a stranglehold on humanity and keep people thinking they need the bureaucracy, they launch a punitive campaign to wreck your dynasty, so they can say "See? Look what happens when you deviate from the creed, from us.".

In other words, the Emperor actually prefers when humans don't fight humans unless those humans are outright chaotic corrupted, it was actually the High Lords/Administratum who want to attack you.

I was pretty sad when I read that ending slide, since my character supported the Imperium at large at every opportunity both in story decisions and colony management decisions, upheld the faith at every opportunity both in story decisions and colony management decisions, and has strong close ties with the Arbites, the Sororitas, the Inquisition, and even respected the various administratum officials we meet throughout the game. So it really felt like a betrayal. But that's the point I suppose, gotta be grimdark.

No. Things have massively deteriorated after his death. He only keeps it afloat with his efforts because he wants the human race to prosper, but he hates what various weak and greedy and selfish and short sighted humans have done with the place in his absence.

When Roboute woke up, one of the first things he said was "what the fuck is wrong with you people and what the fuck have you done to my father's empire".

>>553827041
Correct. He mercilessly killed anything that competition for humanity, because his ultimate goal was humanity's survival and prosperity. It's actually not true that he killed all of them for no reason however, you are forgetting a few stories. If an alien species was useful to humanity, they would be spared.

No large government exists without some amount of bureaucracy, obviously and nobody said otherwise, but what we see in the current year is a very far cry from what the Emperor set up in his time. Efficiency and a unified effort towards the betterment of the species were the foundation of his bureaucracy, and those have been pushed down the list of importance by bad actors who seized power in the vacuum left by the Emperor's death. He would have personally made sure things never got out of hand like they have, so to imply they're the same and he set this up is exaggeration to the point of inaccuracy.

Again, leaving out important details for the sake of some agenda for some reason. He never killed any human who agreed to join him. The only reason he killed everyone who refused to join him was because he had a vision of the future where humanity is literally extinct if they are not unified, so every egg he cracked along the way was for the survival of the species. Don't leave out such an important detail that explains his behavior, lest you appear biased.

Sorry you don't like it and you think he's a meanie poopoo head, but if someone literally sees the future and sees that if he doesn't wrangle humanity into one unified structure in short order, you literally go extinct, then that does indeed explain that behavior. He wouldn't even make excuses for it, he saw the future and what he had to do to ensure the survival of the species, and he did it. It wasn't a question of morality, he's always been a pragmatist and a utilitarianist. He would absolutely sacrifice one to save two, as long as that one provided less utility to the species than the two. All he does is amorrally ensure the survival of the species. And he did. So you can dislike him or call him mean all you want, humanity exists because of him. Whine all you want, he gave you the ability to be alive to whine at all.

>>553828485
>how do you know?
Literally answered in the post you're responding to. When Roboute, his son who lived alongside him, woke up, he literally says as much. He says he doens't even recognize the Empire and that insane people have ruined it in his absence. Why are you asking not only things that have been answered, but are also very basic things that you would know if you read any of Roboute's books. One of his defining character traits is that he knew what things were like in the past under the Emperor and he's trying his best to reinstate some of that, because things are so fucked up now. It's like, the main motivation behind several of the current storyline novels. It's why the High Lords tried to kill him, he's disrupting their hold on power in the imperium, because they are the ones responsible for much of the degeneration that has occurred. We even know the who and the why.

>>
>>553829692
The Emperor does hate what the Imperium has become, we do know that from a multitude of stories and by examining the differences between his Empire and the current Imperium. He hates inefficiency, he hates that it has become a religious institution, and he hates that selfish short sighted people looking out for themselves create conflict and inefficiency in the Imperium that hinders the efforts of the species at large. He has always been about the species at large, it's why he did everything he did, so the people who put themselves before the species are directly anathema to his desires. Why am I explaining basic things like this to you?

The Watchers of the Throne series includes multiple plots of the high lords to make Roboute look bad, take his office away, and brand him as various things that would get him killed. It's a good read, and several of the questions you have asked are directly answered in that series. It's also the foundation for the upcoming 500 worlds narrative since that's all about Ultramar and Roboute's hand picked generals, so you would be caught up for the upcoming stuff too.

the clairvoyant that was the central character of the first (and, at the time of its conception, only planned) dune book was also a complete and total failure
paul muad-dib was the most capable and qualified human to have ever existed, and even he failed to stop a future where entire planets were butchered in his name by fanatical maniacs (whom he also robbed of the future, culture, and agency). this is in spite of the fact that paul COULD SEE EVERY SINGLE EXIT POINT available to him, and still chose not to follow any of them. and while yeah, sure, a good number of those exit strategies involved him dying a grizzly death in the desert, there was at least one which didn't - him walking up to vladimir harkonnen, introducing himself as a harkonnen (which he was by blood), and becoming a viable heir to the throne of the imperium (which the harkonnen were on track to secure through political marriage). he could see everything, and he STILL chose the future that involved billions of humans dying for no good reason. i don't know how you can possibly read that book and not understand that paul is a monstrous fool.

You're actually wrong, since if the Lord's plot did work, Roboute would be branded in such a way that he would be killed as a renegade. It was ultimately a plot to get him dethroned, then killed, even though it wasn't literally an assassin holding a knife sneaking into his bedroom. All of this was knowingly and intentional by the Lords and various others who stand to lose influence with his ascension.
"Well akshually, they didn't try to shoot him literally, they just orchestrated events that would get him killed in a punitive campaign as a renegade, so akshually they didn't try to kill him" does not reflect positively on you or your intentions. Not only are you wrong, since their goal was ultimately his death with a few steps in between, but splitting hairs like this is an utter waste of time.

The split multi-personality entity that occupies the throne that was born from and split from the Emperor is not directly coherent, but I didn't cite his words now as why he doesn't approve of the current imperium. We know that he was a secular humanist so he would not like that the Imperium has become a religious institution, we know that everything he did was for the survival of the species so seeing the high lords and other nobles being wasteful with the things he built would be contrary to his wishes. We know what he was like, we know some of his fundamental motivations, and we know how the imperium now differs from what he wanted and what he believed in. These are some of the most fundamental aspects of the setting and it's strange you're asking some of these things. "We don't know if the Emperor wouldn't like the current Imperium" is actually completely false, we do know that he would not like it, we even know why, and if that wasn't enough, we even have his son to testify to that as well. You're just wrong.

The point of the future sight in Dune is that you’re locked in to what it shows you. Paul couldn’t stop bad things because every future he saw was bad or worse. This leads directly to Leto’s plan to free humanity from the tyranny of precognition.

You decide
>Imperium
Fights for themselves, averse to diplomacy most of the time because of misunderstanding the past (dogma) and trauma from bad alien encounters (that also justify dogma)
>T'au
Fights for themselves but is willing to let pretty much anyone join (but they'll kill you if you don't join or don't accept to fuck off / get out of their way)
Not averse to not having a homogenous culture but will do whatever they have to sometimes (control units let their bugmen actually function in combat but it changes their society at a pretty big level)
>Necron
Fights for themselves (splintered faction where every lord wants to get their territories back and rule and whatnot, their fight unlike most isn't for survival)
Coexistance optional, you can be a slave/vassal sometimes but your life and comfort has no inherent value even then, other factions aren't really worth paying attention to for them
>Eldar
Fight for themselves, exodites hide in exodite worlds, craftworlders mostly roam deep space
Conflict averse and avoids contact one way or the other, unless seers determin they have to go do something that puts them in contact with other factions
>Orkz
Fight for no reason except that it's fun for them (your fun is irrelevant)
No diplomacy at all, can be tempted to not kill you right now with the promise of having something more interesting to kill later
>Tyranid
Fights to multiply that's it
No diplomacy
>Drukhari
Fight for themselves but that means torturing other people for fun (they don't have to do this btw, they just choose this method as their way of dealing with the soul thirst, it's not the only one)
Diplomacy possible until they want to torture you, can coexist with other factions as they don't really care about conquering, but they'll harrass them for slaves and fun
>Chaos
Wants to destroy everything, essentially
No coexistion possible with anyone, no diplomacy either (chaos diplomacy isn't real because the gods are incapable of actual concessions)

>locked into what it shows you
may be explored in later books, but in the original dune book there are many points in part 2 where paul thinks to himself "I could [insert something like dying here] and none of the jihad will happen, I'll be forgotten", and he doesn't take any of them. he isn't locked in until part 3, where he explicitly states that the point that he could avoid the jihad has passed (directly acknowledging that he had the power to change a different future), and instead resigns himself to going "well maybe if i live, i can steer the fremen to not kill everyone while still leading them!". and then, at the end of the book, he realizes "oh, wait, no, it's gonna happen. my life or death doesn't matter any more." i don't have the book in front of me right now so i can't pull exact quotes, but all this is here.
he DID have choices and COULD have chosen a different future he saw (he did in fact see more than one future out in the desert on the night of the raid), but he chose vengeance every single time and arrogantly thought that he could have his cake (strike back against the harkonnen that butchered his house) and eat it (not cause the jihad that will devour the galaxy) too. the story of paul atreides is an indictment of charisma and putting power and trust in any one individual, not a philosophical treatise on the nature of fate.

Rediscovery of Kuldahar is a great mod, spent 2 hours just talking to people and doing quest + some talks with modded companions and they have decent interjections depending on who you have.
IWD really feels like a proper story + combat RPG with mods, the community turned what's mostly a combat game with story into a balanced quality experience eliminating the weakness of the game.
Also have other quest mods installed will see how they go, so far companions and npcs are cool and not cringy, fit the game's tone well.

You're wrong on so many levels. Herbert didn't even put pen to paper until he had outlined the first 3 dune books in their entirety, including all the characters. Paul also saw all possible futures, but was powerless to stop the "golden path" because of his son, who had even stronger future sight abilities than himself. Leto II was more intelligent than Paul and knew becoming the tyrant sand worm was a necessary evil to bring humanity into a permanent age of peace and prosperity. Paul was simply a pussy who wanted to hang out in the desert after his eyes melted

Yes, I'm not really in it for the romance but a lot of the companions can be romanced and it seems some have scripted scenes, like Cassia the Tiefling cleric of Helm where you can go get a drink with them at the tavern and talk, the female genasi pyromancer also invited my bard without asking her first, saw romance starting options but didn't pick them. I think my bard would rather go for the cleric given his and her personalites being more compatible.
If you really care about romance stuff you have a bunch to pick from and regarding companions: https://www.gibberlings3.net/mods/npcs/crossmod_iwd/ these are the ones that have crossmod banter support so the party feels more alive talking to each other

Ulfar
>Good at stabbing
>Good at shooting
>Kicking is a free action that, with Icebreaker Sabatons, refreshes its own cooldown on ranged kill
He's the only character that actually weaves in and out of melee and shooting
Other candidates include
>Heinrix can be built to do basically anything (buffer, tank, stabby, blasty)
>Abelard with Fleet Combat Training blows peoples' brains out with a foehammer whenever they so much as sneeze; take Reckless Strike + the guaranteed crit upgrade and he swings one and shoots twice whenever you attack
>Kibella because blade dancer is really cool

I always take pasqal as he has very unique insights due to being a priest of mars instead of a citizen of the imperium
I often take heinrix and yrliet together because they have wildly different views
And adding onto that I often take marazhai on top of it too for the same reason, plus he likes riling up everyone else so his commentary is fun
That's mostly it, cassia is kinda boring, argenta is mostly one note (for the emperoorr!!!) but sometimes I like having her along just because, Idira I often bring with me but to be completely honest I couldn't even tell you what most of her dialog is like I just don't even remember, Abelard is in my party because he's cool but he's nothing special although he has nice grounded comments compared to everyone else due to his job, kibellah is lamer argenta, and I haven't tried out the arbites guy
Ulfar is like cooler argenta

the only futures he saw out of the desert were the fremen, which put him on the path to the jihad, or the smugglers taking him to the space guild where he becomes mutated, or becoming the barons love slave and eventually turning into a harkonnen psychopath to gain power. all these lead to the jihad and golden path anyway, btw. later, there is another branching where paul realizes that he could stop the jihad by murdering everyone else in the room, including his mother, unborn sister, all his fremen friends, etc. the book is about the dangers of charismatic heroes and paul is arrogant and headstrong (he was bred to be, remember) but it's not like the choices he made that locked in his prophecies were inexcusable.
