The truth is: characters should never be ML bait, yuri bait, fujo bait or any kind of ship bait. To sell bigly characters need to be designed and written well, be likeable, interesting and unique. They should never be some fodder for shippers, no matter what kind. The reason genshin is failing is because the characters and their stories are low-effort, often underdeveloped and exist solely for pandering to specific groups instead of serving the story and telling a good story. Harbingers would sell better if they were allowed to be evil instead of dindus, Archons would've sold better if they were relevant and powerful, Dragons would've sold if they were an actual faction, Witches would've sold if they were designed better and ordinary characters would've sold better if there were less quantity and more quality.
