Many swarms are susceptible to different kinds of CC. I don't remember the KM ones but Color Spray is an easy first level "I win" spell against the early rat swarms. Half the tantrums about either PF game I feel boil down to people attacking with their face and then crying that it doesn't work. Just play on Normal or easier if that's what you want.

Ironically the one that seems the most one note initially ends up being the deepest one. Sadly, I found that the actual martial styles are kind of underpowered? Weapons and magic are just much better, like, "actually make the combat pace bearable" better, which is a damn shame because it ruins your kung fu monk fantasy. Also any style that isn't constantly moving you forward with each hit will actually feel cripplingly weak. The story is pretty neat, mostly straightforward but it works for what it sets out to do. Also the game does let you end up in a throuple with the two female love interests, but I also found the princess so utterly and immensely superior to the childhood friend that I didn't even bother. To say she doesn't have a personality is kind of understating it, I don't think I have ever seen a more milquetoast romance interest in any game ever.
