It's what they're calling "Unified" now that they've established her survivor origin story and she has become the Tomb Raider in the flesh

They're gonna try to mix together their new origin story with the original game and also continue the LAU trilogy story by combining all of it into a brand new cohesive timeline. Basically

TR 2013 -> Rise > Shadow > Legacy of Atlantis > 2 through 6 smooshed together probably in another new remake > Legend > Underworld > Catalyst (2027)

Please go away if you aren't posting Tomb Raider. This is a comfy video games thread, not an off topic shitpost thread. I'm not joking.

Me too. I'm hyped for the game because it looks like it's dedicated to traditional TR and LAU adventure/traversal mechanics again rather than that formulaic TPS crafting shit. If Catalyst continues those same legacy mechanics but opens up the level design that could be really special

>By the end levels I thought the game was just phenomenal.
i too loved the last few levels, they felt like quintessential tomb raider. they were the same sort of levels whose design centered around a hidden mythological place being used as a staging ground for the final boss to carry out their plans. they just intertwine with the story so perfectly
with the combat, i partially agree... the game's controls clearly aren't designed around heavy or even moderate levels of combat, let alone combat against enemies who can shoot you from afar, so you're forced to use movement tactics inherent to the game's control mechanics to the highest degree to defeat them. it's not terrible insofar as it can be managed but it's just so repetitive and sudden in the most random places that you'd never expect enemies to be. it also just looks kind of strange on-screen - you can tell that the devs weren't fully confident to make the game this way, given that TR1 was originally deemed a cinematic experience

It's definitely an "abstract" and surreal choice to have enemies teleporting and ambushing you inside of the most random and impossible of places all the time. At first it really hurt my immersion. But then it started to click that Lara is essentially "infiltrating" these different enemy location while they are doing their work was also interesting, she's interrupting their activity. I've played many of the other games so it's not like seeing her exploring other/urban environments is that shocking. But still really cool to see where that alternative TR approach originally began. I really loved the monastery where the monks are fighting back against Fiamma Nera and you have to try not to shoot any of the monks so that they will continue to protect you throughout the whole level as you explore and find all the Prayer Bells. Such a great series of stages.

I think the game stopped annoying me and started really started clicking when she put on the wet suit to dive down to the Maria Doria after breaking out of jail. The atmosphere is dark and oppressive and I'm just a huge mark for sunken ships, "decay" and general water levels in video games. I enjoyed finding all of the Dragon Statues during those underwater stages as well when I didn't care about them much during the other levels. It was an absolute blast

I'm hopping around all of the games somewhat. I've started up the Survivor trilogy games too just to get them started as well. I didn't really enjoy that first Jungle level of TRIII. And I restarted it like three times after exploring areas endlessly, only to see that I could just run straight to a key and the level was over. Really weird and off putting level design. So I just installed IV-VI

I am trying to, that's why I only tasted the first level and didn't dive in yet. I might play some more Rise instead
