I've spent a few days building this house and workshop. The hardest part was the fucking shallow roofs since they're super finicky but I got it done. I've never played one of these games before so I'm pretty proud of it. I did have to look at some reference shots of peoples buildings to see how I was supposed to make a roof. Can't wait to see where the game goes and in a few months/year coming back to see how far I've progressed....assuming I don't wake up one morning and never launch the game again.

Also in the future I won't make the house so big. It takes so long to deconstruct stuff that it's not worth trying to tinker with. It would be faster to move somewhere else and start over. There's also a basement under both the house and the workshop. It's nice all the crafting benches automatically pull from nearby chests which makes stuff so much easier.

The game was pozzed ever since the Vintage Story devs left the Hytale team, now everyone who remains hates any form of meaningful simulationism and is focused on turning the game into a Valorant-esque movement MOBA which has an optional build system (which has little influence on the world, unlike in Minecraft). I was interested in a Living World game, not an obvious cash grab that will likely only move further into anti-survival features (Minecraft started out as a survival game and around 1.17 switched to a cottagecore game that must be made easy with all new difficulty being optional)

One of my biggest issues with Minecraft is that there isn't really an incentive to build non-farm structures other than vanity. Hytale advertised itself in earlier blogposts as having a "living world", but the current movementslop gameplay suggests that you won't actually need to interact with the world and are actually encouraged to not have a base (since ores are biome-locked). I would rather have ores be universal (although some biomes could have more of them), but have ore clusters be both rarer and larger (and also interspersed with some non-ore blocks, such as in minecraft's ore veins), meaning that you can build a mine structure on the site of a large ore deposit

They are almost all wrong, just like how claiming to be an RPG is almost always wrong. Minecraft is the closest game to a first-person RPG where choices actually matter, having a linear story is not part of the definition of a role-playing game and in my opinion actually detracts from it. I still think that the end was not a good edition to the game (even if many features added after it were), and that Minecraft could have been even more of an RPG if it did not have a preset difficulty ceiling and goal.

My definition of an RPG is the following:

There is a POI that looks like exactly like scarlet monastery, one that looks exactly like strathholme, there is a POI that look exactly that castle in Howling Fjord, there is one that feels exactly like the dungeon from Diablo 1. Yeah I think this is the issue currently. Minecraft has more content and an actual endgame and of course more mods, but it has an incompetent dev team who never adds updates/content, horrible modding support, and the fundamental gameplay is horrible

Hytale has amazing combat, decent movement/QOL features, better modding API, and better AI in general for the mobs/enemies, but it lacks content to the extreme, and decent mods for the game are currently....mostly just QOL shit that should be in the game by default.

This might be an insane hope/pipedream but if someone made a tool/API, for being able to port Minecraft mods over at some point, as people have already made mods porting quite a lot over from Minecraft, and even making tools to import builds from Minecraft, if we end up getting redstone ported over via mods, etc, this would truly make this THE fundamental block game.

I have already been experimenting with a tool that could port Doom .wads/maps into the game (not feature complete at all obviously) but the fact I can even do such a thing so easily compared to minecraft is fantastic, I think Hytale genuinely will be the foundation for a lot of truly amazing projects in the future.

I don't think the high speed of updates will kill mods because the modding API is similar to Factorio, as many of you may have noticed after both of the last two updates, mods didn't break at all, each time, that's by design.

The only thing that'll happen is, some mods that ARE QoL/features may be officially added into the main game, probably better done than how the mod did it, since it'll be implemented officially, and then those mods will simply be trivialized and no longer needed.

I really hope they tweak and tune all the mobs to have some personality or unique ways of approaching the player and remove the distance leash mechanic.
Would be cool if spiders could climb on walls and skeletons could slowly climb up blocks.

Currently both are just functionally re-skinned zombies (if not skeletons), but I'm hopeful enough for the future.

This is a lot of work in survival yeesh. The way water works is source blocks cannot spread at all, so they spread a certain distance horizontally and infinite distance down. So all you need to do to fill any pond is just make the surface source blocks. But its still annoying because you need to actually collect the source blocks in buckets which is very tedious and slow going back and forth, and you are removing source blocks from the environment which can fuck up your rivers.

The method I'm using is teleporting out to the middle of the ocean with a teleporter I set up, stealing a bunch of water and teleporting back to the work site and looping.

One thing that always frustrated me in MC is that rain is hardcoded to not appear in deserts and there are almost no lightweight solutions for undoing that so you dont get those awful wall of rain borders next to every ocean bordering a desert.

Just one of those things that building a new game from the ground up where the weather system is much easier to add too and modify is a direct upgrade. The ability to keep old world gen for old words so you dont get wierd chunk borders between different versions of the proc gen is awesome.

I think I have finally solved the mystery of bed respawn points.

You have to be in range of the bed.
If you die in range of the bed then you will respawn on it.
If you die outside the bed's range then you will spawn at the world spawnpoint.

You can have more than one bed spawnpoint as long as they aren't within 500 blocks of each other.
Place bed spawnpoints in the areas you're exploring. Like next to your teleporters.

More than that, they're shipping server jar files completely unobfuscated. It might as well be open source. It took years of hard work to get forge working for minecraft, and we can just skip all that shit this time.

The great ax's charge attack can stop momentum, you can actually use it to leap off cliffs and if used at the right time, will reset your momentum and launch you up and forward

What's wrong with you?
Hytale has a completely different worldgen in the works, there's an early look at it in creative mode. There is no reason to add structures to the old worldgen when worldgen v2 should be their priority going forward. It does not make sense to maintain both, the time cost should be invested into worldgen v2 not v1. Everything in exploration mode will be regenerated at some point once worldgen v2 is shippable.

They do respawn. It takes a while, but animals absolutely repopulate. Most are set to spawn in groups of 1-4 though, so you still need to do some legwork.

For me the biggest bottleneck seems to be Light Leather. It is required for a lot of iron stuff when I'm already mining thorium and cobalt, yet it seems harder to obtain than Medium and Heavy Leather. I've already exterminated most of the small animals in the vicinity of my base and I don't encounter that many rats when caving. Any ideas on how to easily obtain more?

I just bought it. Slapped together an avatar in 3 minutes because I honestly don't care its going to be covered in armor anyway. Added about 20 mods then spent my first 3 hours building a base then 1 more collecting copper to make copper chests and that copper furnace there. in proc gen, noise is a controllable factor this is dialed in over many iterations. Hytale actually has a system to release many different world gens without destroying your forever worlds. Minecraft has had 15 years to fix its shitty terrain generation that makes floating blocks of stone and dirt 100 blocks into the sky everywhere and Hytale has had... 3? If you are going to have randomness in the generation there are going to be edge cases where shit gets fucked up. It will take time to refine that. Worldgen is one of the first things they mentioned working on.

I think the biggest problem people are having with Hytales building is they are used to 3 blocks high being a normal house height in survival but 5 is looks/feels much better with the character height / jumping in Hytale.

I don't think I've seen scorpions in the desert. Judging by other people's videos, there must be limited pools for what spawns on a continent, because I've seen stuff in the first 5 minutes of youtuber videos that I've not seen anywhere else.

With that out of the way, there are these very eerie purple termite-mound type things in the badlands (I think it was; hot biome in any case.) An enormous dungeon with egg sacs that burst open (you can take them home I have 10 egg sacs) with larva, workers, warriors, and a queen. Can't remember the proper name. I got like 50 chitin from that. The larva like to suicide themselves on thistle-bushes, so it's basically a natural chitin farm. Not particularly dangerous with equipment; it's just creepy.

You just have to go in game in a creative world, and set gamemode to creative.
Then there's an asset editor in the creative tools.
You search for the npc you want to edit, get the configs and just put it in your mod folder with the same folder structure.
The horses have a template that defines the behavior so I just changed it there and set the new template to all the horses. Now the horses love me.

Are there details anywhere about the spawn mechanics? Like if I build some blocks into where a mob spawns, will it cease to spawn, spawn at the highest topology, spawn at the nearest free space or delete those blocks?

I want to build a castle at the top or a mountain but there's a flying tentacle thing there and I don't want it to keep spawning in the basement like a fucking balrog.

I haven't messed with it too much so I could be wrong but from what I've seen, stuff like hair, ears, eyes are different models that get put onto the model itself. So you could just focus on making the skin itself without having the worry about doing ears or eyes or make individual parts to attach onto the model. Would be nice if there was a more concise guide on making stuff for the player character but seems like it'll be a bit before someone does that so kinda have to figure it out for now
