If a game is good, it will at least occasionally get a response, so I feel no need to toss it a bone. For the most part people are seeing waves of games hit steam that have AI generated capsule art and stuff so they just assume the entire game is AI slop but there's no way to tell how much of the gameplay is vibecoded, realistically most of the games that a dev would say was made with AI is actually cobbled together from existing projects that were sold in an asset store or something years before AI actually became mainstream.

If there are any devs who have workflows to push out games with AI they are hiding it literally everywhere. They're not on twitter, they're not on reddit, they're not on 4chan, and people could say it's because "they have to hide or they will get lynched for using AI" but I think the most likely answer is they actually don't exist.

What you can do is find people who are figuring out pieces of the workflow for individual things like asset creation, and that's actually really interesting. But they're not making games happen from it. It's kind of frustrating as an observer, and when it comes to the ai cultists it's downright disturbing how delusional they sound after all these years.

So what you actually need is an experienced gamedev who understands the essentials to a proper game, the title screen, main menu, cutscenes, gameplay mechanics, character controls, AI navigation, combat systems or whatever thing is relevant to the genre, inventory systems if needed. All of these.

Then such a gamedev can learn asset creation workflows with AI and maybe prompt some code from Claude or something and will actually understand the code that has been generated

And to summarize: all of this is no different than just grabbing some asset packs, knowing how to work with them, and asking an AI empowered search engine the right questions, as often it provides workable code in the answer.

The AI generated assets are just more impressive because you can keep generating the concept to 3D model until you get what you want (as shown in that video) and Claude can interact directly with your Scripts as opposed to you needing to copy paste methods into functions.

I understand this much but still do all of my gamedev without AI except for search engine results.

Right it's a collection of tools for various parts of the workflows and it hasn't really been unified anywhere for an end to end concept to publishing gamedev experience.

To tie it all together into a presentable game still requires a gamedev who has at the very least done some of the tutorials in their chosen engine to know what is going on. When anyone dives right into game engines with vibe coding and they don't understand basics like making a character controller or optimizing rendering settings for performance it spirals out of control and they get overwhelmed.

In the future AI will be able to benchmark test builds and change rendering settings according and will actually ask the developer what they want for each section of the game, like menus, custcenes, etc. Because imagining and engineering these things still requires a very particular kind of person. Gamedevs are basically geniuses. It will be somewhat difficult to extinct us with AI.

and it's suspected the developers used AI for way more than just the voice acting but they only declare voice acting on the store page. AI appears to have been used for the 3d assets, gameplay mechanics, the artwork, the music, basically the entire game short of just the game design (and AI probably influenced a lot of that during brainstorming).

Developers like this are not sharing their AI workflows for obvious reasons and they aren't crediting the entire game to AI even if it was used in almost the entire thing. This isn't really their fault as they have to do damage control and were already hit by review bombing, but they have Asmongold (who owns their publishing company and is an AI advocate) playing the game and that was enough to overcome that.

I have no idea. If Unreal Engine for example starts exposing the memory of the engine instance to an AI agent it could have omnipotent control of the engine. Or maybe they pass it all of the engine .ini settings and stuff, and update it everytime the user changes those settings, basically it needs to monitor the state of the engine editor inside and out.

That could take years to implement or they might already have something like that in a future update and are preparing to announce it at the right time to increase their market value. There's no way for an outsider to know.

You can't find that much content across any number of asset packs that would all fit your games design, this is why most asset flippers know how to modify assets to fit their game. I'm still working on that one scene. After today I'll have been 30 hours at it and I hope I'll be mostly done and have good foundations for very similar scenes of the same type.

No I get it, Claude understands the correct syntax and methods to accomplish most things and by knowing what you require from the code you're more likely to get the correct output while avoiding the manual iterations that are inherent in programming. But you're also not getting the dopamine feedback loop from carving these solutions out yourself, which is an autistic way of saying you've actually removed what is enjoyable about coding from the "boring" tasks you're solving.

But it's a new paradigm, a new era, I'm not resisting. When I do jump into it, I'm comfortable knowing I will already be leaps and bounds beyond the average raging AI chud who has been shitting up these threads for years.
