Having this issue where Gnosia on Ruijinx gives these black errors on the text boxes. I got the US version, allegedly, and the most recent patch but still have this issue occurring before and after applying said patch. I have been playing Pokemon Z-A and use reshader on that, but I don't see how it could affect this game. I have a 3070 and have tried OpenGL & Vulken.

I want to build a frontend software for disc-based emulators (6th gen+).The main idea is a virtual game shelf: you browse your collection by looking at DVD/CD box spines. Each system gets scanned, with a built-in scraper that pulls game info, cover art (front/back/spine), disc labels, and manuals. On the shelf view, you hover over spines they zoom slightly. Selecting a game brings the full DVD box into view with a smooth animation. Clicking the box opens it like a real case: inside you see the disc and manual (if available). When you select the disc, it detaches from the case and gets “inserted” into the console’s disc drive with an animation. After that, it just launches the emulator via CLI passthrough (PCSX2.exe %1, etc.), similar to LaunchBox.Also planning pre-launch / post-exit hooks like LaunchBox, and a built-in magazine/manual reader with page-flip animations (like heyzine.com).

https://wiki.rpcs3.net/index.php?title=CPU_Tier_ListThere is no real reason to separate S+ tier CPUs from S tier considering the SPU-heavy emulation. At the moment, there shouldn’t be any CPUs in the S+ tier at all, at least not until Zen 6 with new AVX512 instructions or upcoming Intel chips with AVX10 arrive. The “Total Cores” row is meaningless. Listing P-cores, E-cores, and total threads is sufficient: including total cores only bloats the table. There should also be a brief note under E-cores explaining that they are mostly useless for emulation, since emulators like PCSX2 (and probably RPCS3) will pin workloads to the performance cores anyway. The 9600X definitely belongs in S tier. They probably thought it shouldn’t be ranked higher because it only has 6 cores, but that doesn’t matter much due to its strong single-threaded performance.AVX-512 support should be split into two-stage vs one-stage implementations (Zen 4 vs Zen 5). It’s not hugely important, but it’s still something worth mentioning for RPCS3.The description of A tier is very similar to B tier and doesn’t clearly distinguish between them.I think one or two tiers should be merged. If the S+ tier is removed, every tier could be shifted down by one level. That way, upcoming CPUs could reasonably be placed in S tier instead of inventing an unnecessary S+ tier.Any volunteer?

>>554544016Ryzen 3600 hits the minimum single-thread performance needed (AVX2 support helps too) for PS4 emulation. Upgrading the CPU is the smartest next step: better single-thread speed and AVX-512 is a nice-to-have (big wins in RPCS3/PS3 emulation, and it could help ShadPS4 down the line if optimizations use it), but it's not essential yet for PS4 stuff.RTX 2080 is more than enough for native PS4 res/framerate.16GB RAM is ok for now.https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Computer_specifications#Recommended_Specifications
Alright, I think I am done with using DraStic, it was neat for a phone emulator but I had way too many issues with multiple games so I'm not sure what I am gonna use now.The problem was that lot of games that I tried often felt like they ran faster than they were supposed to, not sure if it's problem with the settings, Android or the emulator itself. For example one of the Call of Duty games I tied was basically unplayable because enemies were quick and could kill you in a split second. The game which finally made me give up was the DS verson of WALL-E, there is a part early on where you have to hit a switch and get to the door but I just couldn't pass it, however when I used Desmume I completed it on the first try. I even tried a different phone and had the same problem. When I recorded on Drastic the switch lasted less than 5 seconds while on Desmume it lasted for over 8 seconds. MelonDS was a bit better but still not ideal and suffered from slow down. However I used the Play store version which might be outdated unlike the one from github. So I am thinking about maybe using the Desmume or MelonDS core but I have no experience with using retroarch on Android.Videos for referenceYouTube video (how it is supposed to run)https://files.catbox.moe/6rupo8.MP4Desmume (while passing the gate)https://files.catbox.moe/1y572z.MP4Desmume (wthout passing the gate)https://files.catbox.moe/eg832r.MP4Drastichttps://files.catbox.moe/mcrfm9.MP4MelonDShttps://files.catbox.moe/9pbrrg.MP4Notice how on Drastic the clock starts ticking fast before it gets to the belt.
>>554574970>phone emulator
>>554574970I know no one cares about a shitty DS version of a kids game but my point is that while Desmume emulated everything I tried without problems a lot of games I tried on Drastic had these issues. And since Drastic is closed source those issues will not get fixedI guess Drastic is fine for turn based or adventure games like Advance Wars, Layton or Ace Attorney but for action or racing games the results were mixed at best.Generally I noticed that when I emulated GBA and DS games the GBA games felt smoother to play and I don't think it's just input lag. DS is the one system where the best to play it still on the original hardware. Also I recently mentioned here how DS version of Ratatouille is unplayable beyond first level since one half just shows a black screen.I also had an amusing bug with the infamous DS version of Need for Speed Most Wanted where cars drive faster for some reason even though both games run at the same speed.I did a test with the same car and track and somehow I completed the circuit on Drastic almost twice as fast. However when I tested the other Need for Speed games they seemed to run fine.
>>554575514What else do you suggest for playing DS and 3DS games besides original hardware? Also lot of emulation handhelds use Android now.

How the fuck do I get BFI to work properly in RA on Linux?I'm running KDE+Arch with a 360hz VRR OLED and no matter what I do (adaptive sync on, off; vsync on, off; audio sync on, off; various frame counts), it never works. Why aren't there any 5th gen+ emulators that nail the post-framebuffer stages, post-processing, and video output emulation? Every single one pumps out these super crisp, fake-ass visuals that look nothing like real hardware.Case in point: https://youtu.be/fB6N03J4T6g?t=927Dunno if that dude jacked up the internal res or what, but even PCSX2's software renderer pulls the same crap. Emulators either skip the emulation of post-process and special effects entirely or choke on the hardware complexity (PS3 SPUs, PS2 VU/GS mess, Xbox 360 eDRAM, you name it)Am I wrong?https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Shaders,_presets_and_filters#:~:text=that%E2%80%99s%20not%20how%20I%20remember%20this%20game
>>554884343>5th genyou're claiming that psx emulators ignore vfx...? example...?
>>554887848Should've said 7th gen home consoles, not 5th+.Because 5th/6th gens were CRT territory: full-screen blur/proto-FXAA, sub-480 lines, interlacing, dithering/low color depth. Hard as fuck to spot diffs on LCD especially without proper shaders or eagle eyes.Mid/late 7th gen games tho? On LCDs, RPCS3 and Xenia pump out noticeably crisper shit than real hardware, even at native res with no upscaling or disable post-process patches.Real hw does hardware-specific post-framebuffer voodoo. I guess emus approx or skip those due to various reasons, makes it pop unnaturally sharp.
>>554888761>hardware-specific post-framebuffer voodooPost-process / post-framebuffer effects(possibly both?)
>>554884343The only difference I can see in your example is the internal res and frame rate. You'd have to give examples.>>554887848N64 has a bunch of hardware post processing and it isn't uncommon for emulators to emulate it improperly or skip it.
>>554889026In that video, motion blur is either missing or way too weak compared to real hardware. Textures look unnaturally crisp too, like the emulator's forcing 16x anisotropic filtering or somethin. Obvious even through that bitrate-crippled YouTube decode. Oh, and real hardware does per-object motion blur? Wtf?
I'm not sure what you're asking for here. Emulator level NTSC effects? Some emulators have that, but it's functionally identical to just running a shader. Anything related to signal artifacts and display simulation is best solved using shaders and if it was integrated into the emulator it'd still be going through shaders, just way less user configurable ones made by the emu team.Any texture filtering or post-processing effects like motion blur or screen swirls are literally applied during rendering and are present in the raw image put out by the emulator. The article you linked isn't talking about visual effects, it's talking about signal encoding and displays. And if you're seriously asking about PS3+ emulation, shit's basically still in proof of concept, wait another 15 years.
>>554889026>The only difference I can see in your example is the internal res and frame rate.Fair observation. That vid's probably running the 60FPS patch, cranked internal res, and 16x anisotropic filtering. But no motion blur? He likely disabled it with patches, shit most people do anyway. Makes the whole thing look way off and honestly worse.https://wiki.rpcs3.net/index.php?title=MotorStorm:_Pacific_Rift#PatchesBut my main point: even native res (100% scale), no patches, stock defaults: it STILL looks off.>not running over compositeSpot on. That's exactly what I'm saying. Tons of 3rd/4th gen emus emulating or fake that for accuracy, but sixth gen+? Nah, spits out pristine sharpness every time. Not sure tho, there are probably shittons more factors to consider.
>>554890420Use ReShade or ShaderGlass or something then if you want a composite shader for your PS3 games if the emulator itself doesn't have shader integration.
>>554890269>I'm not sure what you're asking for here.I was mostly just wondering if this kind of “too clean” look bothers other people in the emulation scene at all.Yeah I know lots of people just slap shaders/filters on top, that's not the point I was originally trying to make.My bad for saying “fifth gen+”, I was actually thinking mainly about seventh gen the whole time. And yeah you already answered it yourself;>shit's basically still in proof of conceptso I guess that's pretty much the current state of things.Fair enough, cheers.
>>554890562>if you want a composite shader for your PS3 gamesNot just that, I feel like a lot of post-processing effects are missing too, especially ones that were originally handled by the SPUs on PS3? The same kind of thing might apply to Xbox 360 emulation (eDRAM quirks and Xenia), though I'm not 100% sure since: as the other person already mentioned, both emulators are still very much early/works-in-progress.It just feels like hardly anyone in the emulation scene is bothered about these kinds of visual/authentic post-processing details for seventh-gen consoles… except maybe me?
>>554889026>For 6th and lower you could say not running over composite makes them too clean, but I don't know of anything else PCSX2 doesn't emulate to make the image too clean.Actually, I remember back in the day people complaining PCSX2 output was too blurry. I always thought, "WTF, have those people never played real PS2 on a CRT?" To me, the emulator always looked too crisp. Or am I the one who's wrong here? Were they just talking about the raw framebuffer/hardware output? It shouldn't be that much blurrier, the display device (CRT) is what adds most of that softness?I probably shouldn't even bring up PS2 though; interlacing and all those other hardware quirks make the whole convo kinda pointless anyway.
>>554889026>N64 has a bunch of hardware post processing and it isn't uncommon for emulators to emulate it improperly or skip it.What about ParaLLEl-RSP and ParaLLEl-RDP? Doesn't that fixed all that stuff? (+Angrylion stuff etc)
Will the "post-processing only runs properly at native res" problem ever get a solution or are we stuck with having to search random sites for patches forever?
I think we're only starting that phase for emulation where the goals will be fixing those minor details, we're still trying to get 100% of the libraries working and now with extra improvements like baking in cheats, fps patches, widescreen patches, resolution scaling, the next step is post-processing, aa filters that work, etc
>>554892471Yep, both Angrylion and ParaLLEl-RDP (in default settings) are pixel-perfect and emulate all the post-processing done by the N64 RDP's Video Interface component. All you need to make it look authentic to real hardware is a decent NTSC/CRT shader on top.

>>554919767I ran SOTN with the exact same settings for comparison. I didn't screenshot it but Tekken 3 looks terrible at 16x IR as well. In my opinion upscaling only actually looks good in 7th gen games or later, or in cases where the game has high-quality texture packs (like, Ace Combat X's SuperOstrich's TP has native 1024×1024 textures for planes instead of AI-upscaled ones)
>>554924434Yup.Those older games (pre-7th gen) were built around low polygon counts and low-resolution textures. On top of that, many of them use affine texture mapping, low-precision vertex math, vertex snapping, and basic lighting models that rely heavily on CRT blur to hide "imperfections". When you increase internal resolution, most of the time you’re not adding real detail, you’re just exposing texture warping, geometry jitter, dithering patterns and flat shading that were never meant to be seen clearly. A lot of assets are also tiny (32×32 - 128×128), use nearest-neighbor filtering, or are pre-rendered 2D elements, so high IR breaks visual cohesion instead of improving it in that case. As you said, upscaling only really works in 7th-gen games and later because their assets, lighting, and rendering pipelines were designed for HD displays (kinda), but even for seventh-gen i wouldn't recommend increasing internal resolution -> >>554884343.
>>554921962>on real hardware, the 3d models actually looked like they were part of the prerendered backgroundsI wouldn't go that far. The shading was all off. In games like FF7 and FF8 you could immediately tell what items were interactable because they popped out of the background.
so if the game is 60hz and your monitor is 200hz, what does it do? does every 3rd frame last 5ms longer than the other 2 frames? can I just speed the game up by 10% so it exactly matches my monitor refresh?
>>554927083It's over. You can't emulate on that. You should've saved up and bought the 240hz model.

>>554927083Temporal anti-aliasing. It blurs the current and previous frames together based on the timing of the monitor frame. So if your monitor goes to present halfway between game frame 5 and game frame 6, you get a 50/50 blend of the two.

At the moment, PCSX2's texture replacement function is missing critical features (wildcarding, texture manifest, hash reduction, etc.) that would allow for a more comprehensive overhaul. If these features are implemented, we may widen the scope to cover menus, briefings, title screens, fonts, etc.And if you want to be even more nitpicky then you could also count all the other shit that Dolphin had for ages like tonemapping and per-pixel lighting
So does the NSO GC controller just not work in windows?

>>554884343For gen 7 onwards, HDTVs + HDMI cables got rid of all the quirkyness in video output.5th and 6th gen emulators nail the weird video outputs of their respective systems as long as you're using an accurate emulator and have it set up correctly (1x res, SW mode, dithering enabled, shaders etc).
>>554890670>I was mostly just wondering if this kind of “too clean” look bothers other people in the emulation scene at all.NTA but yeah it does. However, as emulation becomes more accurate, it will sort itself out. 7th gen emulation still has a long way to go.

i dont get it all these lcd monitors say 1ms response time shouldn't that mean perfect motion clarity given that retro games are 16.6667ms per frame?
>>554968410They're lying, anon. First of all, that's gray-to-gray, and most LCD panels benchmark closer to 5ms. And then you have the worst case response times between black and white which can be upwards of 20ms.
>>554944247Does the GC/Wii have any such video output quirks? I ask because it seems like Dolphin doesn't even respect interlaced output on games that didn't support progressive scan, for instance, and it's always sharp as hell, so I'm wondering if it's at all accurate in that particular sense the way, say, PCSX2 is even with hardware rendering. I think even Xemu emulates some of the Xbox's post-processing.
>>554959651>>554960001>>554960223For about a year, I had a launch Xbox 360 but only an SD CRT, albeit one with component ports. It actually looked halfway decent for most of the games I played on it. My parents had an LCD HDTV in their room, but it only had VGA and component and it was one of those "720p" ones (actually 768p), and obviously it looked good through component but not perfect. Then I got the VGA adapter when that came out, and holy hell it looked so fucking good on that TV, especially because it could actually output at exactly 1366x768. I ended up getting a CRT HDTV soon after, though, and playing at 1080i over component was really nice. Not quite as sharp as on the other TV, of course, but it had waaaaaaay better contrast and colors and of course no ghosting or motion blur.
>>554968410Response time is a useless metric, there's no standardization on exactly what it means or is measuring, so the manufacturer's numbers are all marketing bullshit.

Seems like gopher64 is the best option for n64 now
>>554973132Just like everything from that era lots of games (like Twilight Princess) have bloom at a fixed resolution
>>554973132Dolphin and PCSX2 don't have proper signal/post-processing simulation at all, and their shader support for this kind of thing is pretty poor. There's an old PR for adding shader chain support to Dolphin (other than obsolete DolphinFX), but it's been sitting unmerged for years.https://github.com/dolphin-emu/dolphin/pull/10362No real analog signal emulation either (scanlines, bloom, phosphor glow, RF/Composite/S-Video artifacts, etc.). Xemu has a "signal" option, but from what I can tell it doesn't actually simulate the visual post-processing or analog quirks, it just tells the emulated Xbox that a particular cable type is connected (config flag), without rendering any of the corresponding visual effects. I believe Xenia works the same way. It's kind of disappointing that basically no sixth- or seventh-gen console emulators make any serious attempt at display chain / post-framebuffer / signal simulation. PCSX2 at least tries harder with some hardware rendering quirks and interlacing modes, but even there it's nowhere near complete.
>>554968410Because the science is quite a bit more complicated

>>554940183>he doesnt know
>>554968410no lcd has 1ms response timesyou get motion blur because the backlight is continuous so your eye is seeing the entire transition phase of each pixel which can be longer than the actual frame timeif your frame time is 16.6ms and it takes the pixels 16ms just to transition, your eye just sees the 16ms of blurry mess, not the 0.6ms of clarity
>>554974404>it had waaaaaaay better contrast and colors and of course no ghosting or motion blur.Yeah, especially in a dark room. Seeing those Sony Trinitron colors with your own eyes is honestly mind-blowing. I even preferred playing early 480p Xbox 360 games on those CRTs, no joke. That's how good they were. I really wish OLED would become mainstream for desktop monitors and laptops, but oh well, a whole decade has passed at this point. Call it a cartel, monopoly, planned market manipulation, or whatever you want, but I guess we're not going to see OLED reach the same level of popularity that LCDs did back in the day. At least not in the near future, it seems. It is what it is.I believe MicroLEDs will be even more expensive, even years after they hit mass production.
https://youtu.be/jb7epHGWo_060 FPS?? Wait, what?I had always assumed that early consoles were strictly frame-rate capped regardless of the video mode selected.
>>555004892>xbox 360>early consolewut
>>555004892I’ve always thought (and still do) that the seventh generation should have been marketed as '480p consoles', and the eighth generation as '684p–720p consoles', with the capability for Blu-ray movies. They should have focused on physics, AI, simulation depth, and other meaningful advancements instead of obsessing over resolution numbers. The PS4 and Xbox One CPUs were terrible. They went down the pure marketing / cheapest route (because of PS3's backlash i guesss), and we’ve been living with the consequences ever since.
>>555005175*relatively speaking
>>555004892A good chunk of the PS360 library can have the fps cap increased to 60 fps without any issue, they only start breaking at 100 and higher
>>555005617So that's just double-buffered V-Sync? It can't maintain 60 FPS and drops to a 30 FPS cap?
Has any game ever included visual improvements specifically for 480p mode, thanks to the extra headroom, instead of just pushing for 60 FPS?https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1fs1Cg4iJiakx_QHsdAmdXyliQ_xJHvWAvXxGwl7FZu8/htmlview#
>>555005863>double-buffered V-Syncneither of those terms have anything to do with frame rate
>>555005863>that's just double-buffered V-Sync? It can't maintain 60 FPS and drops to a 30 FPS capnot really -> https://youtu.be/XIpFH_3KK4s
>>555006270In double-buffered V-Sync, if rendering a single frame takes longer than one refresh cycle (>16.67ms at 60Hz), the next frame misses the VBI swap window and must wait for the following one: effectively dropping FPS to half (30 FPS at 60Hz). This creates stuttering and is a well-known drawback.
>>555006484v-sync just means that it presents in sync with the display refreshyou can render at 9000fps and then just throw away 9940 of those framesv-sync is not inherently a measurement of fpsdouble buffering has even less to do with fps
Man, I connected my last controller I needed to setup to my PC for retroarch and it literally made other controllers go wonky, wtf man. Fuck this gay shit.
>>555006627You're half-right on the definition but missing the key part.V-Sync does sync presentation to refresh but in the standard double-buffered implementation (what most games/drivers use by default anyway, this is the key part), if your render time exceeds one refresh interval (~50 fps on a 60 Hz mon.), the back buffer isn't ready in time GPU blocks you miss the next VBI next present happens two intervals later effective FPS halves to 30 + and boom -> noticeable stutter..
>>555006627>you can render at 9000fps and then just throw away 9940 of those framesthat is true ofc, but our main discussion point was presentation, no?
>>554979756switch emulation is so dead I stopped downloading new updates for games for my hoard stash because I know they're not gonna work
>>554979756>what happenedNintendo. Developers are retards who tied their github accounts to their real life identity so they basically chickened out instead of continuing work under pseudonyms.
>>554884343Most emus have issues with post processing when upscaling. I hate it too.
>>554996804I wasn't referring to NTSC/CRT stuff, but to anything done during the rendering pipeline. For example, for many years video plugins in N64 emulators were not at all accurate to how the real N64 video component actually drew the image. They didn't emulate the AA, blur, gamma correction, and de-dithering normally applied to the raw framebuffer image, and even that raw image looked vastly different to what you'd see in those plugins. MAME was the first to even attempt to render the image how real hardware does, and it was perfected in the Angrylion plugin. That's what I mean.
it's funny how emulating modern consoles is less emulation and more just circumventing drm
>>555010718That's because architecture has finally settled and everything isn't using completely different chipsets and such nowadays.
>>555010718Wouldn't that mean that modern consoles are just PCs with extra DRM in place to prevent piracy? So you're paying extra for hardware that only benefits globalist corporations by restricting your personal freedom?
>>555010524N64 emulation is in a really good place now in that regard as you mentioned, and Dreamcast is getting there too, especially with the compute shader-based renderers. But I think there's still a lot that needs to be done for PCSX2, Xemu, Dolphin, and most later systems.Unfortunately, devs usually won't prioritize this kind of "video-accuracy" work. Their focus tends to stay on compatibility, timing fixes, Qt/GTK frontends, and stuff like that.
>>554968410The same reason a zoetrope needs a grill or a strobing light source to not be appear as a shapeless blur.

>>555018675there's for both p4 and p5 but it's not a real crack, it's hypervisor bypass shenanigans
>>554996804Nobody care except your autistic ass. It's already hard enough to try to emulate the proper graphics of the games without everything shitting itself up so that we also have to go through the hassle of emulating some "analog signal" shit thal will always look like dogshit on LCD screen anyway. Just grab shaderglass and play with the shaders like everyone else. Or actually learn some coding and propose a fucking PR.
>>555018907im not talking about that(also find it dogshit), they forgot denuvo and released it like this on steam, thats why we got repack at the time of the release.Atlus did however update the game shortly after to include denuvo.
what is the lightest crt shader that is just meant to correct the image so it is display it how it was designed back when there were only crt monitos? no gay shit, no "tube emulation", no warped edges because muh crts weren't flat, just an interpolation fix
in theory the lightest crt shader possible should simply add scanlines, right?
>>555013063That's exactly what modern consoles are. Xbox is just an x86 Windows machine, PS5 is just an x86 FreeBSD machine, Switch is just an ARM Android machine. The only difference is the underlying OS (Even XBox OS is not entirely "just Windows) and the addition of a bunch of DRM on both the software side and the hardware side.>>555017282I honestly do Switch emulation just because it's a "single file game" so it's a lot more convenient than PC piracy and feels "safer" to do.

>>555019375Not sure about the lightest but you can set Guest and really most good shaders to avoid any gay warping because you're right that's not the part that matters. Easymode I think is fast and should do just enough.>>555020516No, scanlines alone won't do shit, there's a lot more going on in crts than this. You definitely need some blur or softening of the image (Guest has several ntsc settings that handle the blur and smudging of the picture) and scanlines can't be just dumb black lines too. a proper aperture/shadow mask is needed to regain some illusion of sharpness back from the signal blur. You also need a tiny, tiny bit of bloom. Guest handle that automatically, I think easymode doesn't.Also you need higher motion clarity than the usual flat screen but that's for all games.

A few months ago, someone posted a Windows 98 games pack for 86box on /vr/. Does anyone know if there was an updated version posted since then?
the sony cxa palette included with the nestopia core is wrong. all the colors are wrong.
how am I suppose to set my Audio Latency in RA? I dont notice any difference no matter what I set it to. 64, 32, 16, 0, all sound and rook same. only difference I can see is with Statistics open. if I leave it at default 128, Blocking never goes above 0, and Underrun will start at around 8% and move towards 0%. setting it lower ends up with higher blocking and underrun %'s even though I dont hear any differences. I thought lower settings were better?
idk about motion clarity but I turn on the backlight strobing on my ips monitor and I can practically count the hairs on that alien's ass as he zooms through spaceseems like a solved problem to me
>>555052946I made that pack. I haven't worked on it much since (way too busy with other shit), but I do eventually want to return to it. One thing I've done since then is switch the default processor to a Pentium MMX, since AMD processors seem more taxing to emulate even at lower speeds. I also switched to a Sound Blaster 16, since frankly speaking, emulating the AWE32 is kinda pointless since you can just use FluidSynth for decent MIDI, and the EMU8000 wavetable (the only thing that sets the AWE32 apart from the SB16) is poorly emulated anyway.>inb4 fork of a junkIt's for early Windows shit only.
>>555066413dims the overall image
>>555067184not really, I turn up my monitor brightness from 35% to 70% and it's visually back where it started
>>555069860yeah, well, don't say I didn't warn you when your monitor backlight dies from strobing all the time
>>555060949Supposedly that, Mesen, and FCEUmm can let you choose custom palettes, but I'm not sure how that's done. I really hope it isn't convoluted like adding samples to FBNeo.
>>555073527(samefag)I spoke too soon, it IS convoluted! And to think people are overwhelmed by RA's UI itself.https://docs.libretro.com/library/nestopia/#directories
>>555066413You're effectively halfing your monitors framerate.
>>555074365>halves your monitor framerate>it's still twice the framerate of the games your emulating
>>555066413Yeah it's solved for the 0.003% of monitors that actually have a strobing mode switch and is tuned well enough to look good at the framerate that matters, which is 60fps.0.003% might be too high of an estimate, unless I count the first gen Gsync module monitors that can be hacked into allowing 60hz strobing. Some of us who knows about this can plan for it and buy the rare few displays that are capable of this, but pretty much everyone else is fucked and have to play vidya with insane motionblur. Good thing that normies just don't see it. Also good thing that Pulsar is now a thing, assuming it looks good at 60.>>555074365not always the case, it depends on how it's implemented. My msi monitor and my lg C1 both can strobe at the max refresh rate of 144 and 120hz. Pulsar monitors also have the full 360hz.But even if that's the case if it halve the effective framerate from 120hz to 60 then that monitor is a keeper imo, since 60fps is what matters as the strobing rate has to be equal to the game's framerate.
>>555046896gen
>>555074365Backlight strobing is not black frame insertion. That said, you generally are restricted to some specific framerate when using it simply because they only design the backlight to strobe at some specific frequency, but that framerate very well could be the monitor's native refresh rate.

Im playing GOW2 on Vita3k(cause i started it on Vita and moved my saves on PC), but whenever I use any god powers or when there's some repeating sounds(think of fire breathing, pushing a statue around, etc), these sounds get stuck on loop, and im forced to keep playing until next save point, save, quit the game and restart. Is there any fix for this? Already tried switching the audio backend to Cubeb, but the issue remains(and using Cubeb the cutscenes have no audio).I even tried seeing if i could move the saves onto the PS3 version to play it on RPCS3(cause it looked like the file structure of these saves is identical), but even if the game sees there's a save, it says it's empty or corrupted(and for whatever reason, the game also has graphical issues where a lot of black lines appear on screen, couldnt find a word about this on google), and of course i cant convert these saves to the PS2 version.

I haven’t been able to play the menu of this BD Video ISO on PC for years now, neither with VLC nor with Kodi.In VLC, I only get a black screen in the menu section (other Blu-ray movie menus work fine). I’ve already set up the JRE environment for BD-J / BD-Live features, in case this disc uses them. I also configured the libaacs and libbdplus quirks for discs with BD+ or AACS/AACS2 protection. What's the best way to emulate 3DS games and have them look at least alright on larger screen? I want to play Stella Glow but it doesn't look great even with increased rendering resolution. Pic related is at 9x internal resolution (3600x2160) and as you can see it's mostly still very smudged and blurred. Obviously I don't expect the textures to magically become high res or anything but even most geometry still looks very smudged.I have messed around with scaling settings and with the texture sampling, it's possible to remove the blur but the game instead just looks extremely pixellated despite the very high rendering res. Am I missing something here?
>>555176063My strobing IPS panel has better motion clarity than both my trinitron and my Commodore 1802.
>>555176589Honestly if I'm emulating a handheld game I prefer just using a handheld emulator.
>>555176903I'm actually trying to get a decent result out of using my Deck with an external monitor so I can get 2 screens. I don't have any small external monitors though.

>>555176589Also pic related what it looks like with nearest neighbor texture sampling, blur / smudginess is gone but it still looks very low res despite actually rendering at 3600x2160.I think whatever effects the game is using are low res still and remain the same despite the 9x internal res, so overall the image doesn't look great.
>>555178097Play it at native res so the UI doesn't stick out like dogshit.
>>555178216I actually tried that, native res is 400x240 and looks like pic related. This shit actually looks better on my old TV setup because of the low res, but the aspect ratio is wrong and it seems kind of retarded to play a 3DS game like that.
>>555179054Honestly I would just play it like this. A lot of emulators have issues with effects when cranking up the internal resolution due to floating point shenanigans and stuff like that. And azahar/citra were always more about performance than accuracy. And besides those effects were never really meant to be seen at a higher resolution anyway.

Why do so many people say RetroArch is shit? It lets you have stuff like VRR and proper scaling for every core it has
>>555194525>800x600It's a CRT TV, it's only capable of 15kHz video so that's way too high res>400x300I'm not sure whether you can get this in 15kHz either, though I'm not an expert. Typical modes at 60Hz are 240p or 480i. Getting 300 lines would mean dropping refresh rate but I'm not sure you can get 300 lines even like that. PAL resolution at 50Hz would be 288 lines so 300 I guess would be even lower refresh rate than that. It would fuck up motion, but more than that I'm not sure the TV can sync to less than 50Hz refresh either. It does work in the 50-60Hz range, I know that much.Maybe I could look into making a custom video mode though, if I can get even 400x288 then it would still be closer to the correct AR, but I don't know how bad the motion will look with 30FPS on a 50Hz screen. The game's turn-based so maybe it won't be so noticeable.
>>555183880I have a pretty good setup for NDS I think. I use hybrid mode with a shader I made that blacks out the doubled lines, and then I output that to a CRT running at 800x600.
>>555196836Back when I had a CRT monitor, I would just run it at 640x480 and use an overlay. Both screens fit comfortably and everything looked quite good.
>>555197609Yeah, that's really not that bad. I do it my was just because I wanted the main screen to take up more space on the monitor.Even now I'm only using 44% + 11% of the monitor, which still kind of bothers me, but it's an improvement to 25% + 25%.
>>555195867I really think it's just midwits mad they got filtered trying to figure out the settings. And _they_ don't need all those options anyway so it's bloat and that means they couldn't figure out the settings because it's bad design.
>>554817732There are emulators written by japanese people - SSF (most notable example), Xebra, NEC personal computer stuff, SNESGT, TGB Dual, bunch of old forgotten nintendo ones. I bet MAME also collaborates with some Japanese dumpers. In the 90s and early 2000 they also shared a lof of roms on p2p networks like winmx, winny and the like, many made their way to goodsets only to get redumped years later. Hell, the reason we have any sort of PC-98 library is because they dumped all that shit and shared thos multi-gigabyte packs, towns and pce cd dumps were also sourced from random p2p uploads.
>>555010718>>555020714This is wrong. You still need to emulate the underlying API calls, provide filesystem, recompile shaders etc. If you want to be pedantic and use the WINE definition, you can call modern emulators mere API wrappers I guess, but this is still not as simple as circumventing DRM.

can we finally emulate the shadow of colossus ps4 game at 60 fps? has anyone tried? I haven't played that game yet in any console

There is a hypervisor in the works that's supposed to spoof all hardware stuff Denuvo depends on. Is this emulation?

Bruh im trying to play the conan game on rpcs3 but the frame rate is atrocious i can't find any thread with emulator settings , it seems it runs fine for other people. im running a 3060ti and a 5600x are my specs to low? i could run gow 3 with no problems
It has been a while since I last messed with RetroArch, has runahead been replaced?
>>555307671Ok turns out the game loads the shader every time an action is performed my old hard drive couldnt take the load. Moved the game to my sdd and now it works fine
ok so i tried the latest git of pcsx2 with the vulkan hacks/fixes whatever. a couple of questions tho; 1. in gt4 it keeps asking for high blending but is this for windows only? because afaik vulkan and ogl have higher blending than dx. i think someone told me vulkan and ogl have higher levels of blend on normal than dx on the highest. this is still true? also does pcsx2 highest blending enable higher levels of blending than the ps2 or highest blending is actually default ps2 levels of blending? 2. man i went on a tangent on the first question and now i dont remember what was my second question
>>555265104Sheeit, I'd dig a chinkheld that looked like that.
>>555309735No, but it has an alternative called Preemptive frames, which is basically Run-ahead but it only applies when you press inputs, or something like that. It's supposed to be more efficient.
>>555292948is the ps3 version the best out of the 2? I like to play the best versions always
>>555316570The original is the best.
ps3 version looks like a faithful remasterhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ActhIPQ_DFQ
>>555316570Same shit once you upscale. It just has HD menus, widescreen fixes and it's less demanding if you want 60fps. I think they upscaled some textures as well but the difference is minimal.
>>555319068btw PS3 version is slightly harder due to the higher fps, which makes it easier to lose grip (gets a bit worse at 60fps, but still doable)
Emu
>>555287546>hypervisorThat just means it's a virtual machine, so technically yes but also no. It depends on how you define an emulator. It's still going to run on your native hardware, it'll just lie to the software and say it's running on different hardware. Or at least that's how I assume it works. Since it's not emulating hardware and is instead just sending fake data, it's actually not emulation in it's true sense.
>>554421007waiting for all the hotfixes for base Azahar to be in before updatingthere was one 2 days ago
Is anyone familiar with the GMG (GenericMusicGames) project?Alternatively, is anyone familiar with the emulation of the Sega ALL.NET services for multiplayer arcade games? My work on reverse engineering something has hit a wall and I fear it may be due to not having access to a specific router used at arcades in Japan (strictly as a man-in-the-middle service between the cabinet/arcade network and the offsite servers).Any help would be appreciated. I have already consumed the entirety of Tendokyu for information and I fear its now a select group of closed groups who have managed to sniff / collect network traffic at arcades that have the means to host private servers the way I am trying to implement an emulated service.
>>555279224I was using the regular version of Azahar. Does retroarch support having the 3DS screens in different windows?
hol upyou can't manually enter numbers when doing cheats in RA? you have to hold down the dpad and try to stop at 95731743?
>>555296227Yeah, I've seen plenty of games with visual glitches tied to the VU1 recompiler or Instant VU1. Some titles even get messed up at 100% EE cycle rate like Fight Night Round 3, where you have to bump the EE cycle rate up to fix graphical issues.
>>555311308>in gt4 it keeps asking for high blending but is this for windows only? There's an open PR (#13227) to add an "Automatic" blending mode that respects per-game GameDB forced levels without manual tweaking. Once merged it'll handle this automatically for a lot of titles. https://github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/pull/13227>someone told me vulkan and ogl have higher levels of blend on normal than dx on the highestThat used to be true, still not sure but most recent updates brought D3D12 much closer to Vulkan/OpenGL accuracy I believe. D3D12 got huge perf/accuracy boosts. Automatic renderer on Windows now often picks D3D12 over Vulkan for many GPUs. D3D11 is marked (obsolete) but still there.>pcsx2 highest blending enable higher levels of blending than the ps2 or highest blending is actually default ps2 levels of blendingHigher ones (level 5 and level 6) goes beyond basic emulation by enabling full accurate blending unit features (like precise depth feedback, complex ops, etc.) that the real hardware does but most games don't fully rely on for "correct" look. Basic/Medium covers what most titles need without tanking perf, higher levels are for fixing specific stuff for some games but demand way more GPU power. Level 5+ is super demanding and only needed for edge cases (e.g., certain AA1 effects in some titles).https://github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/pull/13681#issuecomment-3704394054
