If you play a story driven role play or just write fiction, you've probably run into the problem that it's very hard for an AI to move the plot forward randomly on its own. It needs help. One option is to write something like "come up with a random event" or "come up with a random continuation of the plot", but the downside of this approach is that you have to read a lot of text to make sure what it came up with is reasonable and logical. And if this is not the case, then everything needs to be deleted and started over.I’m currently using a different method and I recommend it. I write:>Very briefly write down 12 options for the further development of the plot. I'll choose one of them.>Write in the format '1)' '2)' and so on.Then it gives me 12 short sentences describing possible ways the plot could continue. After that, I roll a 12-sided die and look at the result. If it's logical and works for me, I pick that option. If not, I roll again.

I'm in a bit of a crossroads between using Character's Note (under Advanced Definitions of a character) and not using it. I have a list of rules that I want a character to follow, which are also amplified using examples of dialogue. However, I feel that in order to follow said rules more effectively, I have to use Character's Note.And it does just that quite well! But there's a tradeoff. The writing quality isn't as good as it can be. I notice if I were to put the rules in the character's Description instead of the Character's Note, the writing and dialogue is A LOT better. However, it doesn't follow the rules quite as well.

I'm getting really frustrated with Opus and need to confirm it's not just me. I'm using it through OpenRouter with Google/Anthropic as a provider (not much difference, desu).We all know that the models get quantized eventually after the initial rollout, but this feels ridiculous even for quantization. The quality of dialogue has dropped significantly; it now spits on negative examples and actively uses everything from them without much thought. Memory has gotten 10 times worse, it can't remember things properly. The emotional smarts also feel like they're nowhere near the previous levels. It can't infer a lot of subtext anymore, takes things too literally, or, in the rare cases that it does get the context right, it needs to spell it out and acknowledge it explicitly. And overall, the instruction-following is horrible. I've spent a long time tuning the instructions for response length so the dialogue feels natural, instead of a book chapter being thrown at me every time I make a joke. Now it literally can't handle more than two NPCs in a scene. The second NPC either disappears from view and stays completely silent, or Opus launches into a book chapter where it starts writing dialogue for me. Literally no third scenario.It all was so easy and fluid and natural, and then suddenly it just isn't.

I've been using LLM based roleplay services since the days of AIDungeon, on through to CAI ... And for a few years now I've been messing around with SillyTavern with models both locally and through providers like OpenRouter. I've seen a lot of progress in both professionally and locally hosted models; Yet despite their marked improvements, I still can't help but feel profoundly unsatisfied when I use them.On occasion, they've made me laugh. They've even written some decent smut. But beyond those occasional glimmers of value, it feels like a fool's errand to try and squeeze more gems out of it, or to use it for decent story crafting. Those two things are really all I feel LLMs are good for in this capacity. No matter the improvements made with prose and relative coherency, the flaws of the LLM alone are glaringly apparent in each iteration they take. It will always hallucinate. It will always mischaracterize and misunderstand. Its output will always be hollow in its own special way that can be felt now as it was at its inception.

Make your own damn prompts, people! Like, really, it makes a difference, a huge one. Even if you're lazy, at least take a premade prompt and try to rewrite it using your own words. It's especially important that you do it in a way as if you were talking to the LLM yourself, which will ensure it will inherit your style/vibe of writing. It won't eliminate all of the purple prose we all hate so much, but it will at least ensure you won't get angry as much with every swipe being vastly different from what you had in mind. Funnily enough, grammar plays some part in it too. Since most people speak English as a second language, the grammar of folks on the internet is usually not... perfect, to say the least. Everyone makes some mistakes, so if your prompt has some of the most common ones you yourself make, that will at least in some part be reflected in the generated response, making them feel more familiar. I know this may be a tall task for most people; I'm lazy just as you all are, but whatev.Rant over.

Some of my characters have EXTENSIVE backstories that lead them to the current state of their existence. For example one character is a quad-amputee (this is slightly tech advanced) and has prosthetics that allow him to live more or less a normal life. Recently I switched to Sonnet 4.5, and while the quality of writing is definitely better, I also noticed that the model tries to humanize (?) my characters. For example, character X is a stated to be from a poor background, due to which he grew up to be a two-faced manipulator who mines people for all their worth, and then ditches them later. If DS and GLM emphasized his secret hatered for {{user}}/people who surround him and his two-faced nature, then Sonnet (for some reason) puts more focus on his insecurity and makes him think that {{user}} is not like other girls™I wouldn't mind character growth, but it feels like Sonnet just waters down characters
