Finished Horizon. I think Horizon has solidified ASO as the worst group of protagonists in the series. I genuinely don't understand what Falcom was trying to do here. And they somehow created Heroines worst than Elie, how can you fumble Elaine and Agnes. Especially, Agnes, who spent the last two games preaching and decided to be the biggest hypocrite of all time in this game, solidifying herself as a bottom tier character.

A big issue ASO has is that they get no development and they don't do anything. They just follow Van around every day, while he does 90% of the work. They're just extra muscle. It's even more obvious of an issue in this game where you swap between Rean and Kevin's POV. Where their companions are well rounded, and they actually DO STUFF. They all have their skills and roles to play that complement each other. It is bizarre to me that ASO struggles to have more usage than Old Class 7. Calvard has a smaller core cast bro, how does this happen.

Anyways, Horizon was still good minus the Van route and anything having to do with those characters. The Rean and Kevin route are about what I expect from trails, and those were a lot of fun.

falcom is known for creating shoddy paper thin knock offs and madokagnes is no different. Madoka and Homura's dynamic are exactly that, two fags fighting over whos gayer. Madoka refuses to let homura fall on the sword and vice versa.

I don't know what falcom was thinking with this. This is such an unsolvable problem for madoka fans that they created a retcon movie that brought the entire series back to the starting line and then let the entire thing die for 12 years. Theres no lesson they can xerox here for a quick fix. theyre basically torpedoing their entire story if they cant write their own way out of it. or maybe theyre shamelessly delaying kai 2 for walpurgisnacht in the hopes that it delivers. The only option for Falkom to properly conclude the romantic storylines in the series would be a lengthy act in the final game of the last arc, where we would sequentially use bonding points for each of the main characters to see the outcome of our chosen decisions throughout the game.

Played Horizon aka Daybreak 3 for a good ten hours and I already feel so burned out that I am thinking of switching to the easiest difficulty just so that I can enjoy the animations and whatever the story has in store.
The game gives you so much shit that none of the items really mean anything at this point.
The bosses have so much more hp yet dont really do anything outside of a few danger moves. So every engagement is very long and feels more like a test of patience than anything involving strategy.
I think I might be too old to play JRPGs.

Realistically, non-kiseki games do not sell well anymore. Even Ys sells poorly now. Kiseki games still manage to sell by virtue of the fact they have an international audience that other Falcom IPs don't have, but every Falcom IP is DOA in Japan, and every non kiseki IP is DOA internationally.
So after they've done SC, it'll be straight onto Kai 2. I wouldn't be surprised, given their one game a year rule, if Falcom doesn't release a non-kiseki game for the next half decade.

Why do the first ten hours of every modern Falcom game have to painstakingly dump exposition at me as to who the dozens of characters around me are and what the current state of the world/plot is?
Nobody is playing Kai as their first kiseki game, and if they are they deserve to be lost.

Falcom is a company that prides itself for never having a year where it didn't make a profit. The only year it came close to being in the red was the year it released Tokyo Xanadu, after some 30 years of always being profitable.

Because of that reason they will always release a game every year. If you don't release a game in that financial year then you don't make any money, and the pride of Falcom won't allow it to not have a profitable year. It's also how Falcom manages to sell shares, by claiming it will never have a bad year.
