I did not have any fun with Marathon in the closed playtest but the art outside of the game is good. I think this thing is going to be a massive fuckup, and Bungie is going to have to quickly scramble to fix it like a month after launch. Destiny will continue to suffer because of that, but Bungie does to deserve to die at this point. The scale/distance between what is shit and what is god tier in D2 is way larger than say D1, in D1 you could use a pretty shit roll of a gun but perks weren't as powercrept as they were in D2 so the base gun still does the work even in endgame and the perks were either utility or small boosts to its efficiency like outlaw or explosive payload which at the time reduced your damage but you ultimately got more effective range. Explosive payload in D2 is just a straight 10% damage buff perk and the splash is negligable.This would've all been solved with a D3, but they've taken too long and now no-one gives a shit. But yeah if we were in a D1 level sandbox you'd maybe would get that Shadowprice because maybe you don't currently have an Arc auto-rifle. Currently though you try taking a shit tier roll into endgame and it feels like shit to play.

For my sleep Playlist majority of it consists of skyrim songs and dark souls songs but i do have three destiny tracks which I wanted to focus on talking about. Tranquility is just peak destiny. When I hear Tranquility I think of the peace and atmosphere of Destiny. The tower, cosmodrone, orbit... the cosmodrone was just such a beautiful destination because I love snowy environments. Another aspect is just the nice look of the tower especially during those low sunset evenings where they turn the lights on early and you look towards the traveler and see the last city alive with tower ships roaming around. Makes me wanna work night shifts as a patrol unit. A track that doesnt hit as much is deconstruction but still sounds nice. Last song is reflection which ill give some praise even if its from the filthy inferior D2 game. Nice song in beyond Light thats underrated which I think is criminal. Infact I think its better than deepstone lullaby. The somber piano is beautiful while in orbit and I felt the name "reflection" is accurate for how the song makes you feel. Even though beyond Light was complete slop I felt like they still had some passion when it came to making music and this is one of those good few tracks remaining. It definitely reminds me of those times I go to orbit after a devastatingly horrible raid/gm run and I just stare at the orbit screen like "wow I just wasted a bunch of times with retards and I really hate this games community" and then that nice song starts playing and close my eyes and forgive and forget. So yeah Tranquility and reflection are really good destiny songs that have a special place in my heart and its nice to hear it every so often as I drift to sleep

D2's vault was garbage compared to D1. The shaders were garbage, both the previews and application. Sparrows were downgraded. D2 was much more ability focused off the bat, i had more melee kills over Y1-3 than i did weapon kills. They switched how weapons were used during the first few years. Primary ammo slot one, special ammo slot two, heavy slot three, became kinetic s1, elemental s2, heavy s3, this came with a massive nerf to primary weapon damage and infinite ammo, although it's hard to remember now, but D2 might have launched with infinite ammo. Ammo synths were never a thing in D2. The armor all looks goofy in D2 instead of realistic, at launch this was even worse. Much more i can't remember atm

Destiny was built to be the most impressive 3 person co-op game they could put together. 3 person fireteams was how the game was marketed, how it was meant to be played, and how the lore expected you to play. The folx at nubungie saw trials, and raids, and decided that D2 would focus on these, and would try to make them an e-sport mass media thing. This meant making D2 a 6-player focused game. Destiny ran stable at 3 players, but would have issues from time to time in raids or crucible. D2 cut out all dynamic tech, everything impressive about the game. They gut it down to bare bones so they could get 6 people playing together in a stable environment, with more ability spam and greater ad-density. Nubungie thought more abilities and more kills made for a more entertaining "viewer-experience." They doubled down on this with the beyond light graphics overhaul.

As a former Destiny 2 addict, it just feels like a slower Destiny 2 that's trying to be Apex Legends as an extraction shooter. From what I can see, it's meant to be a more pvp focused extraction shooter compared to arc raiders which turned into a friend simulator. It has a nice aesthetic that hasn't been popular in games for a while and isn't as generic as the cyberpunk/corposlop you see in most futuristic games. people talk about bungie gunplay but that's a meme because the game shoots for you. The real strength I believe lies in the animations and sound design of shooting where Bungie definitely is at or near the top in quality. also, apart from tarkov most extraction shooters are extremely shallow in terms of loot and progression. There is tons of complete garbage that only exists to sell, where in marathon it seems like there is a fair amount of progression and questing that is more than just "bring back 2 gears".I've played in all 3 tests last year and while I'm not a fan of the direction they went in trying to make it more realistic with movement, I had a decent enough time as someone that regularly plays extraction shooters. I think bungie should have gone full destiny pvp and embraced much faster and chaotic movement as that is a gap in the extraction shooter market right now.

Okay played 4 games, won 3, here are my impressions>Disconnect after every game, forced to requeue>Gunplay is identical to fortnite>movement is both slow when on foot and weirdly fast on horse and zipline>abilities depend on application, in bases they offer an interesting and honestly compelling means to defence and assault>offensive abilities are either extremely *potent* or completely useless>flow of building up resources between attack/defend phase is w.e, nothing special >extremely snowbally, very easy to baserape once you're ahead. especially with skill difference>performance is fine>sound design is college my-first-game tier>monetization seems entirely cosmetic but we'll see, new hero releasing shortly >maps are too big for 3v3 but bases are right-sized>should have normal capture the flag mode>default should be 4v4, maybe 5v5>weapons don't seem balanced, usual shotgun turns into fairy dust at 5+ meters all in all I played it more than I have destiny in the past year.
