I think it had to become the falcon for balancing purposes. The pilot being tanky combined with the loiter capability meant they had to gimp the guns - which made it unfun to use. The falcon loses its gunner and you just go get a new one. But you are out of action whilst doing so. But it gets boring flying the thing around not seeing what the gunners are seeing. Definitely needs more work. The wasp was a colossal mistake in terms of developing this design. Taking the passenger seats off for no reason is exactly the kind of stupid shit you expect from 343. Basically made a phaeton with human weapons.

Covenant could be massively built up but then get wiped out, revealing the supercarrier. For the first time, I played Halo 4, and it was such an incredible journey. This was Master Chiefs most cinematic and emotional journey I've seen him go through. I read that Josh Holmes found this more personal with what was going on with his mother and dementia. I can see why, as what's happening with Cortana resembles that. Seeing a loved slowly degrading as you are helpless to help them. The pain of seeing them like this as they are so used to being stronger. Chief many times talks to her with so much care and emotion, and saying "find her, or just do this it'll be okay." I have never seen Chief so emotional or vulnerable at a human level, like done in Halo 4, and it's one of the main reasons I love this game so much. Chief is so human, and you feel his pain. Hell, I had ugly tears a couple of times with how grounded and real things got.

This is definitely a Chief and Cortana game through and through. While it's not a classic Halo story like told in the Orginal Trilogy, this made Chief the best Halo character based on character now. I liked the Arbiter better in the OT and found Chief badass, but I couldn't connect with the man under the mask. I do get that they wanted you to feel like Chieg because he didn't talk much, and while I love that, I love the humanity in Chief in 4. Figuring out in the end he was never a robot. The theme of machine vs. man was beautifully done. Hell, I even loved the new art direction, and the soundtrack was so good and underrated. I think Halo 4 gets a lot of crap, and I'm definitely tired of the soundtrack slander as it still feels like Halo, but it's own identity to stand on. The gameplay is also solid as the backdrops are gorgeous as well as each new weapon and enemy type.

I just love Halo 4 so much for it's characters, and even the massive lore building that grew the Halo universe even more. I respect those who don't like Halo 4, but to me, it's the best Halo game. So many emotions hit me when Chief was practically begging Cortana not to leave him. Reminded me of Darth Vader in ROTJ when you can see his emotions even through his mask. You don't need to see his face to understand and see what he's going through. I don't know if anyone who worked on Halo 4 is here, but thank you. You created an underrated masterpiece in my eyes. Might even be my favorite game.

Another reason is that I'm going through something similar to Josh Holmes. My grandfather was always like my dad, and he has dementia. So seeing him go through this and degrade really makes me connect even more with Chief.

It's important to have the correct mindset about campaign v multiplayer. That being that a true Halo game is a campaign experience first and foremost.
I'd be perfectly fine with the CE remake having firefight or some other PvE mode as its "multiplayer" offering for this reason.
Halo CE/1 had multiplayer thrown in the game in the last few months of development for the same reason any multiplayer was in a console game at the time, it was just expected to be there. The campaign WAS the game, and the multiplayer was extra. Now, it did turn out to be really good and pretty addicting, but it's important to understand that this existed in mostly a party game atmosphere. Yes, there were comp tournaments, but they are not representative of the average Halo CE multiplayer session.
Halo 2, or really rather Xbox Live, changed this, and set this unrealistic standard of Halo multiplayer being the face of the series. It was never meant to last, but it stuck, even as CoD 4 and onwards drained the popularity 3 years later.

tl;dr
A PVE-only game is sorely needed at this point to correct this wrongdoing and artificial ballooning of Halo's multiplayer to be its core identity.
