The anniversary content really does bulk out Fallout 4. Not saying it's all good but for an extra five bucks it might be worth it, I got it on the cheap during a Steam sale and I don't feel like it was wasted. I mean, companions in F1/2 didn't have much in terms of interactions at all, but they still fulfilled their role as secondary characters who just follow you. Fallout 3 didn't overcomplicate things either, and for the most part your followers were simply there to help you in a fight and had zero opinions on anything outside of your karma meter. Simple, efficient, glorious. In New Vegas they have personal quests and a lot of very specific opinions on certain groups, but still mostly leave you to your own devices. They are side characters in your story, completely optional and only serving as nice addition to a narrative that can be fully enjoyed alone. And there are also several ways for you to fuck them over which helps them blend in with the world and sell the illusion that they have their own business going on. In F4, there's nothing of that. Earn approval, have three pep talks, get the perk. Oh I guess sometimes you need to go clear a dungeon like in Cait's case. It's a compromise between 'followers are just there to kill stuff' and 'this is literally Mass Effect you have a squad' extremes that takes WORST parts of both and no positives.

Why are Throwing Spears so powerful? I am LARPing (the game never acknowledges me limiting myself to Legion-type weapons, so it's not real roleplay) as a Caesar's Legion wannabe, so I've only used Throwing Spears early. Even though I put barely any skill points into MW (just points from tag) I get 70-85% chance to hit head in VATS from a decent distance and I get to throw at least two spears in one VATS activation and it's one shot one kill.
