The type that killed Yugioh was xyz. Synchro actually fixed the extra deck because fusions required too many resources to make including an arbitrary spell card that did nothing beyond fusing the monsters. It gave meaning to levels by encouraging people to play a wide variety of levels in their decks while removing the need for a "Polymerization" type card but when xyz debuted, the game eschewed the level complexity of Synchro summoning for archetypes full of lvl 4 monsters which reduced game play to spamming the field with other lvl 4 monsters efficiently enough to go into an xyz without passing turn. It was the death of Yugioh and the birth of Yugioh 2 when I noticed a dramatic shift in the feel of the game at that time and quit soon after. Pendulums caused many others to drop off and if I hadn't left at xyz, I probably would have left at Pendulum too. Links were also an awful idea. Their entire reason for being was as a way to regulate extra deck spamming by requiring link arrows but it didn't stop Links themselves from being spammed while making all other extra deck card types unplayable until they reversed the master rule. Links were too generic a summoning mechanic that it accelerated the game.

Most decks only use links to use dead bodies on field to go into i:p and then unicor/s:p/gorgon and that is because even if it is the most generic mechanic, most of the actually good link monsters are archetype restricted, or at least put some restrictions in what monsters can be used as material.Rituals are like pendulum, main deck mechanics that are only unfair when konami decides to overcompensate a little too much, but i would say habakiri is the worst designed card ever printed on the game.Fusions are the most cheated mechanic ever, spells that fusion from deck, contact fusion without bodies on field....Xyz on the other hand do have the most floodgates and generic searchers on the banlist. Recently with both k9 and ryzeal, the TCG had to release a emergency banlist to ban floodgate cards, and from the 6 cards, 4 of them were abused by either ryzeal variants or k9 crystron.Xyz not only are way too generic, you can prety much summon your boss monster with 2 materials in some xyz decks. Rank 4 and 3 have the best toolboxes in the game, rank 8 has negates you can spam for free. At a time before pendulums, every new deck wouldd either have all monsters lv3 or lv4, and if it didn't have any of them the deck would be just bad, and that lead us to today's standard when some synchro decks will even play only same level cards.Links are generic but most of them are week, xyz is also generic but there are a lot of stronger options for less cost, and that is why as inpopular as it may be, my opinion is that xyz is the most toxic mechanic in the game.
