I've been exclusively playing 960 for a while and now regular chess is too hard for me (I get trounced in the opening). As long as you don't fuck up completely, 960 is incredibly forgiving in the beginning before turning into chaos in the middlegame.

It's actually a very complex position. I was at risk of it playing Nf4 and g5 and solidifying its position and blunting all attacking lines. I am rereading the excellent book "the ruy lopez move by move" by Andrew Mcdonald, and it got me interested in playing the closed Ruy again. So I started investigating the old Breyer which I was quite down on because of the easy attack for white and no counterplay to speak of.And what did I find?? A new move that is doing very well. It makes a lot of sense to start queenside operations immediately instead of the old ...g6 mainline which is the source of so much of white's attack. Black neglects to play either the weakening ...c5 or the weakening ...g6 and instead just gets going. The Breyer might just be making a comeback.

The stuff beginners need is more like knowing that the way to neutralise gambits in e4e5 with the black pieces is usually something with d5, possibly banking on the option of Na5 against a Q/B battery etc.
