Someone posted an infographic here once about a certain knot for tying a flower crown being similar to a noose, and given that Basil's equivalent to Red Hands in the Boss Rush is "Flower Crown" I'm pretty sure that's implied to be Omocat's explanation as well (there's even a part of the animation that isn't used where it goes from looking like vines to more like green ropes but I can't find it at the moment)

Basil was familiar enough with the concept of a hanging suicide that that idea was something that was even possible for his mind to pull out in the moment. It really doesn’t matter how Basil knew how to tie the knot, what matters is that Basil associated the knot with a suicide. If he just knew slip knots from bracelets and flower crowns, it would not have been possible for his mind to say, “right time to use that knot to hang Mari from a tree.” That’s the kind of idea that requires thought and consideration that Basil did not have time nor place of mind to do at the time of the incident. I don’t think he was actively suicidal when the friend group was all together, but everything we know about him definitely doesn’t paint a good picture of what his life was like before meeting Aubrey and the rest. Obviously, Basil is a very strong character, as he never actually went through with it pre-canon, but I think people are coping when they try and say that him knowing how to tie knots explains his actions because it actually doesn’t.

I mean I would go even further and say that people get entirely too caught up in the specifics of Mari’s staged suicide. It doesn’t fucking matter how it happened, Omori isn’t supposed to be a realistic crime game. It’s an emotionally driven game, so really all that matters is that it DID happen. If your first thought after figuring out the truth is that it doesn’t make sense, then you missed the point of the game entirely.

His parents basically didn't exist, all he really had was his grandma, and he didn't have friends before Aubrey introduced him to everyone. His issues got worse after Mari died, but that doesn't mean they couldn't have existed before then. Basil admits that he took photos of what he was most afraid to lose. After Sunny murdered Mari, he was probably afraid of losing him too once everyone learned what happened. So he did what he did to 'save' Sunny. This is my personal take on it, but Basil's dialogue seems to imply he couldn't rationalize what happened as an accident. Sunny killed Mari, but Sunny would never do something like that. In the moment he knew he needed to protect Sunny from what he did, and once it was all over he rationalized it as 'something else' that made Sunny kill Mari. Something else he needed to protect Sunny from.

Hi /omog/ just finished the game for the first time, it was truly a touching game, some scenes hit way too close home. But I still do not understand why the Sunny confession at the hosptial got skipped, was it due to time restrictions or deadlines? This is my only "complain" about it, also noticed there are a lot of missing achievements and my foe facts is still unfinished despite checking almost everything on the headspace.

Honestly, my biggest problem with the game's ending is that Sunny's entire reasoning for opening up seems to be dependent on whether or not his friends will forgive him, but then it goes out of it's way to NOT show their reaction. It muddles the theme of him wanting to forgive himself, if he's only doing it because he doesn't want his friends to hate him.
This is the game blatantly victim-blaming her by saying she indeed was at fault for her death because she shouldn't have pissed Sunny off, even though there is no tangible evidence she was overworking him outside of a few sentences in the datamined (!) captions from the Truth sequence. One of the most confusing moments in the game was Sunny’s negligence when Basil has his first breakdown in his bathroom. This part of the game is player-controlled, which is a strange writing decision because all you can do is click on Basil and various bathroom amenities over and over which completely saps the urgency out of the scene. When you try to leave, Basil begs Sunny to stay, but (due to a lack of player options) Sunny walks out without a word. With no option to talk to him OR get help for him, it makes Sunny seem exceptionally cruel to Basil. In fact, I was starting to wonder if the game was setting up for some sort of twist that Sunny DIDN’T care about his friends, which would fix some of the confusion in point #1

Like Sweetheart's Castle and Humphrey, mostly those two locations. Once you open the door for Kel the first time and Faraway makes you realize what the story is actually about, Headspace starts to feel like it's taking you away from the real story outside small moments and Black Space onward. It took a while for me to shake that sentiment.
