The Wheel has turned once againEnhanced Edition Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher. The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3400 units, 1100 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them. It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.>Our pastebin (extremely outdated)https://pastebin.com/wjbSA98Y>Steamgrouphttps://steamcommunity.com/groups/vanheimageofvidya>Multiplayer guide/game hosting services>Hinaserver https://arch.b4k.dev/vg/thread/548312356/#548526452https://hinaserver.net>Blitzserverhttps://blitzserver.net(Dom 6)https://beta.blitzserver.net/games>Llamaserver:https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1212948582>Documentationhttps://illwinter.com/dom6/docs.html>Tools>Mod inspectorhttps://larzm42.github.io/dom6inspector/>Wikihttps://illwiki.com/>Pretender calculatorhttps://zollqir.github.io/pretenders-dom6/https://caleb-distributive.github.io/pretenders-dom6/ (website down?)>Debug modhttps://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3083231618>Communion fatigue calculator (still dom5)https://instacalc.com/53495>Automatically prevent starts in all provinces with less than X connections (still dom5)https://nixx.is-fantabulo.us/dom5ranmapnos/>How do I change the fonts?Replace guifont.ttf, guifont_fancy.ttf and guifont_texty.ttf in the game's 'data' folder (C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Dominions6\data)>Fan arthttps://thronebooru.booru.org>Sloop’s Comfy Balance Modhttps://docs.google.com/document/d/1zeDyK8Zb_p4lIJ0yp3a3ikMprRkmBCWvy31_4jBen3Q/edit?usp=sharingPrevious Pantokrator>>554481193

>>556005181Solium Infernum has been a guest general in here since times immemorial. Just a rare visitor.>>556015058Dominions is incredibly wide but actually not that deep, just very poorly explained. Sure there's a bajillion units and spells but you mostly use the same dozen tools.Solium Infernum has a much lower floor but I'd say a higher ceiling. You're ready to play after playing the tutorial. The big difficulty comes from juggling everything at your disposal, because you only get to give like 2-5 orders per turn so you need to consider very carefully what to do.It's got a very decent tutorial (for the most part... It's taught by Belial, Lord of Lies, and he does sneak in a couple traps because well, the fuck do you expect) and a very detailed built in wiki.An important element is that you can't just go and murder someone straight away like in Dominions. Hell has rules. As long as you take insults and pay tribute like a champ, no one can destroy you (and even if you do fight back, the first three times they still can't fully destroy you). If you comply, the worst they can do is steal some of your shit, damage your armies, etc. with hidden rituals. At least until false flag masking abilities come online in the mid-late game.. So generally there's a lot less of a need to drink in theory before playing because you're not going to get filtered out in your first war.In fact, the whole concept of a war doesn't quite apply. SI is all about understanding a constantly changing pecking order, knowing who you can abuse, who you should bow to, and who would probably fall for the right bluff.tl;dr Much more approachable and tighter than Dominions. The difficulty comes from choosing what to do, not from not knowing what the fuck all this shit does.
>>556021849I tend to agree with Lucid's current tier list outside of those C/D tier nations that I've come to love like Phlegra.>eaYomi, Muspelheim, Vanheim, (TNN???)>maNid, Man, Asphodel, Pythium>laPan, AndraThere's a decent consensus on the discord that the LA tier list is more compressed with less gap between the levels, meanwhile both EA/MA have a group of strong A+ tier nations with a large gap between them and B tier. MA has the strongest mechanics of any era.

>>556031930cont.To put an example, here's more or less your options in the first few turns of a game:>get tribute (resources)>demand tribute from another player>bid for legions, praetors (generals) or magic items at the bazaar>assign items and praetors to legions>move a legion>cast a spell (I think you always start with 3 but can quickly gain some more)>level up magic to get more spells and other abilities>level up infernal rank (powerful, but costs prestige = victory points)Pick 2. You unlock more order slots by leveling up your magic but it's fucking expensive so it's quite normal to finish a game at 3 if you don't go for heavy magic. Also there's great tooltips. Here's a screencap of the magic section, which is probably the most overwhelming screen, while hovering Prophecy 3.
>>556031930Is it more about diplomancy than anything else? How important is positioning, research, etc.?
>>556031930>because you only get to give like 2-5 orders per turnThat sounds like it entirely sidesteps the burden and problems of the micromanagement of lategame that in Dominions and many similar games tend to grow difficult and time-consuming to handle. Are lategame turns faster and less real-life labour-intensive than in Dominions and similar games?
Abysia, shame the timing on that message because I was starting to have similar concerns but didn't think you were involved in that issue. I have my own plans for if burden of time does go up, but it will significantly impact me too.

>>556034863
>>556034863kind of a insane to attack me in the current game state especially considering the match up, I figured you would want to ally me against the skeleton twins but we can do it this way too
>>556036981Best of luck
>>556033916Diplomancy is definitely a major element, but short term. It doesn't really make sense to make long term alliances. Power imbalances can switch rapidly, and there's lots of tricky stuff like the ability to cast spells hidden (so the target doesn't know who's casting it) or even to make it seems like someone else cast the spell in the first place. There's a dice roll involved but still. It's more bluffing and manipulation than diplomacy.Research is MASSIVELY important. There's little to research, (see >>556033817 ) but those few paths are crucial. Aside from spells, getting one to level 4 gives you an extra order. Look at that screencap: Prophecy 3 lets you see someone's goal in a Vendetta (aka a time limited war to achieve a secret objective, chosen by the aggressor), and it gives you a ritual (spell) to see the all of another player's research except his strongest path. A higher level lets you see who buys what in the bazaar (otherwise a secret). The path of Wrath lets you have more legions, gives you spells and other ways to buff them up, heal them, etc. Deceit lets you hide things from an enemy's Prophecy, steal stuff, move enemy legions...Positioning is very important too. Maps are usually quite cramped, but most legions only move two hexes at a time, and it takes an order to tell one to move, so responding to a threat can be quite difficult if you didn't plan in advance. You can probably force a stronger player to give you tribute by throwing the demand when his legions are far away from you.>>556034628Correct. There's essentially none of the tedious micro of Dominions. Late game turns are still like 30 seconds worth of clicking. You can still easily spend half an hour in the late game squirming over hard choices, but you won't be moving 30 commanders. Should you buy another legion or level up a power? And which one? Maybe buy that great artifact instead before someone grabs it? Or you could take the initiative and capture that site of power...
>>556041235Here's an example of a game I'm playing with randoms. Turn 6 from 50something.My strategy in this game is to be a super aggressive bully. I gave my pretender the artifact that lets all my legions move +1, so usually 3 instead of 2. I'm Erzsebet, the pink one.Beelzebub started with his legion to the right of his stronghold. Meaning he couldn't attack the Tower of Pride in a single turn. Since the Tower and the Tree are both weak sites (+1 prestige per turn), I thought it wouldn't piss people off too much if I took both. Except for Beelzebub, but fuck him.Turn 1 I got a cheap extra legion. Both together can capture the Tree with minimal damage, and they're 2 points of damage short of the Tower. I spent the second action giving my starting legion a +2 damage stratagem.Turn 2 I moved both legions into position. I used my extra mobility to take a tile towards the Wood of Suicides so I can threaten it, hoping it encourages both players to the left to want to keep me placated. I don't actually plan to fight for it. It's perfect there for them to fight over, and I want them to hate each other so they don't hit me. I also sent them both some diplomancy offering friendship against the other.Turn 3 I quickly captured the Tower with a double hit, and trapped Beelzebub against the wall with nowhere to go.Turn 4 I took the Tree.Everyone is still expanding, starting to take down their first sites. I already have two. Shitty ones - that Wood of Suicides gives +2 to Deceit rolls... But I'll be gathering prestige passively and can now spend some time healing, gathering tribute and consolidating power. As soon as the two to my left are stuck in a fight (they're already hurling insults at each other, as expected) I'll start bullying the fuck out of Beelzebub.Of course, I also made friends with Belial, who's the blue one to my South, North of Astaroth, who's my (and probably his) main concern. The enemy behind my enemy is my friend. All according to keikaku.
>>556041235>and it takes an order to tell one to moveThat sounds in some ways interesting, but also sounds a bit abstract, artificial and arcadey. In many war situations, giving orders to armies could presumably be done without requiring diplomatic activity. On the other hand, if the situation is like a civil war, or the participants must adhere to rules, or it's kind of like a pre-war situation or cold war situation with proxies, or something, making it "expensive" for a leader to move armies around might make sense. In some time periods, leaders might also have to convince or bribe soldiers and vassals to participate and follow orders. Also, IRL top leaders can be very involved in war planning I guess, especially when it is intertwined with diplomacy.
>>556044617The whole game is a good bit more abstracted than Dominions. The general idea is that demons, whether the basic troops or the chain of command, are lazy, bloodthirsty, dumb, or all of the above, and it takes some dedicated effort to get a horde to behave. Plus all the layers of spies, agents, and assorted liars that are in the way of shit getting done the way you want it.There's also lots of little things that are simply odd limitations, handwaved as the rules of Hell. For example, you can't march into another Archfiend's territory unless you're in a Vendetta (limited fight) or Blood Feud (all out extermination fight), or one of you has been excommunicated by the Conclave, which is why blocking Beelzebub like that is a big deal. Or how all transactions at the bazaar must be made in 8 resource tokens or less, so a huge amount of small "1 soul" pieces won't allow you to buy something that costs 10 souls. You'll have to spend an order consolidating tribute, condensing multiple tokens into a single one.It is artificial and arcadey, but it adds a lot of playroom. Making big tokens is dangerous if someone can spot them, or try to steal them or burn them away with a spell. It can also give you an idea of what they're for. If they're amassing hellfire, they probably want to increase their Wrath, or recruit big legions. It doesn't aim to simulate realistic warfare, but rather to make room for politics, backroom deals, trickery, spionage and dark magic.
>nah, Slaanesh isn't that dangerous

>>556046370Sounds like an abstract board game, like what some might call European style board games, for better or worse. I do sometimes like that kind of game. In computer form, I am guessing that Gremlins, Inc. might be similar, though I never played neither game. One of the creators of that game made Eador, which is interesting, bit also a game with a lot of deep and sometimes debilitating game design and programming flaws, like AI getting stuck and requiring closing the program.

Which amphibious indies are actually good at expanding into water?Seems like everything just kinda flops unless I can outnumber the rando tritons and crap 2:1In my case I can pick from Ichtids and shambers (with sloops's shield shambers) or should I just wait until I got enough spells to make some thugs and send one in?
>>556061064Good aquatic troops are better than any amphibious indies. If you find triton knights or something like that, you're generally shit outta luck unless you bring in mage support, dedicated thugs, or overwhelming numbers. For the weaker variant like naked mermen with daggers or spears, ichthyids usually do pretty well.Shamblers hit very hard and are surprisingly effective, but they're also very expensive and brittle. They're best mixed in with something else.If you don't have national troops or a lot of luck with the indies, you're generally not going to find great success getting underwater, specially if there's a player who does have dedicated stuff.I'd bring ichthyids and shamblers in like 8:2 proportion and aim for the weaker provinces. Once you manage to knock down one with armored tritons and can start recruiting them yourself, it speeds up a lot

GAME IS ONApparently you cannot play a large map with only 4 players. The game has automatically added 2 AIs...I think it's OK, I played last time many years ago and you're all probably new so whatever. If you guys would rather restart with a smaller map so we can actually just be the 4 of us, tell me and I'll launch a new room and we can get it rolling by tomorrow
>>556066549Correction: you have to set the number of players when you create a lobby, and any slots not filled by humans will automatically get bots.I guess it was to be expected that the remake a massively janky game would still have some jank, but what the fuck.Alright, I'm going to try something. I'm letting this round run, but I'm also creating a 4 player one on a small map. If you all join that one, then I'll start it immediately and we can play both or abandon the big one, whatever you guys want.On retrospective, I think even for 6 players a large map is fucking huge. Looks geared for super long games where everyone ends up overloaded with stuff. I think I'd suggest medium maps instead for normal games.I apologize for the chaos. Things were a bit different in the original version and it's caught me by surprise.>code for smaller 4 people game, no AIs>code 252678

That's interesting, haven't had anyone dream horror me in a while ... I'm expecting horror seed shortly too. But yeah, I'm now 100% convinced I needed to attack you now as several battles should be somewhat free before you get blood 8. Also I didn't realize that you had managed to take Pythium. We are at the point in the game where you would be potentially scaling more than me despite my globals and obscene gem income just because of blood hunting on a large map; thankfully I'm a filthy lucker so I have 2 recruitable indy blood mages of my own, but still.>SceleriaWell that's impressive, sending that army on a clear one way trip. Shame its the same turn I remote searched and found indy sorceresses on that throne, but at least I didn't start building my fort yet.
>>556096607It's not, if I understood correctly from the announcement the project began before blitzmin shared the code.I guess the code shared sped up the development but I don't think it's an actual port/fork else all features would've been merged effortlessly, not to mention the announcements also hint that it's taking some effort on his side:>Map previews look a little better. Hinaserver now uses the same map previewing strategy for random maps as Blitzserver.>I have a small bug fix release today, along with some QoL stuff. [... ] A couple more sanity checks to fix some edge cases that are near impossible to hit.>[...] v0.4.X will likely be the last major release that I would consider Hinaserver alpha-quality software, since it has thankfully been working quite well and now has (to my knowledge) everything super important implemented.Makes it sound like he's worried of his code breaking, blitzserver's code overall hasn't really broken for anybody besides weird issues with port assignment. If he were just copy pasting blitzserver code or continuing the development there is no need to worry since it's the same "stable" foundation.Although since it isn't open source there's no way to actually tell I suppose.

Is blood moon worth attacking the caster nation over
>>556136741No
>>556136423I mean, its better than nothing, but you're still trying to get past the MR to secure the effects, meanwhile getting through the MR once with soul slay/enslave mind/charm will secure the kill. Instead I think its just better to summon a handful of sprites in battle, which can make 50+ effective attacks with a single casting. Sprites can be especially good in army battles if the enemy elites don't have shields.I vaguely recall that air shield blocks elf shot too, but that's something I'd want to confirm.
>>556136741Blood moon impacts the entire lobby equally, so it in and of itself isn't a huge problem. However, I'd say being in a gamestate with a single primary blood nation remaining who has put blood moon up already is an existential threat. If they can cast blood moon, they can probably put up astral corruption too once they get the research.
>>556152102Well shit, but doesn't astral corruption horror mark the caster?
>>556134749maybe the game design idea is to buy more time to spam charm or something. like, glamour like elf shot can delay, glamour can deal false damage, no inflictions caused, and then charm as much as possible before false damage or fatigue kills the enemies. it probably doesn't work out like that in practice, though>>556151923sprites are generally better, i agree, but also later in research. elf shot is probably more to have something. maybe in assassination battles against low-mr enemies?but regular shields should not do anything due to elf shot being armor negating. only air shield should work

Unless someone has a really good magic phase attack or flying army I think this is the last turn.
I started a second game with proper settings parallel to the first one, which ended up a bit odd, but one of the players doesn't seem to want to join so we have one vacant. Anyone else curious? As soon as someone hops in we can start>Code 252678
Unfortunately I might have to extend make it happen again. Pretty severe food poisoning, really dehydrated. Sorry, will try and do turn as soon as I'm not leaking out both ends

>>556320419Please elaborate. Why is it better?
I'm curious about some of the map modding commands, won't be able to test it until tomorrow evening, so I thought I'd check and see if anyone might be able to clear something up.#setland vs #land and the #poptype command. As I've just learned, if you use the #setland command the province poptype will be set to whatever you choose, though the indie defenders will be whatever was randomly generated when you start the game.If one were to use the #land command, will the province be defended by indies of the poptype that you choose, or does one have to manually place the defenders in this case?
>>556308701Are we still running both games now that the 4p one went up?
>>556331390You have to manually place defendersif you modify indie provinces with #setland it just adds whatever defenders you set to the one the game generates. Use just #land if you want to overwrite themUnfortunately the auto generated defenders ARE NOT the poptype for whatever reason. Poptype only matters for when you conquer the province. For example#commander 103#additem "Water Bracelet" #commander 103#commander 103#units 20 522#commander 156#units 120 357#commander 156#units 70 288Would add a bunch of water wizards (one with a water bracelet), some cave drakes amazons and heavy crossbowmen

>>556335008I'll send everyone an in game PM about it. I'm up for both keeping it and leaving it.So much extra space makes it impossible to react rapidly to threats on the field, so it'll play very differently
>>556337279Right, that's what I ran into, what I'm curious about is whether or not the #land command will add auto generated defenders for a chosen poptype of if I will have to manually add defenders.
>>556359527>>556359527You will have to manually add defenders But it's not difficult, just a little tedious and you can just do it to specific provinces rather than all of them
>>556330137Several of the nations in the original mod are so bad to the point of being borderline non functional. Plus I love what mod anon did with the chaos nations.
>>556365149Right yeah, pretty simple stuff.I did notice in the map I'm editing that there are several provinces just that have#setland#poptype With no custom army made, or any other commands used. So I guess I'll have to fix that as well and make some custom armies for those provinces, though oddly there were several instances where the guy, or whoever came before him, used#land#poptypeAnd made a custom army, among other commands. Sloppy job.
>>556311832Hope you feel better. I assume you are Abysia and if I'm correct I'd prefer you getting in at least a halfway decent turn. I'm rather curious what types of blood or assassin shenanigans you can get up to.That said its quite the big turn for me as I'm dropping a ton of heat and I'm rather curious to see how it goes.

Anyone having an issue with the game freezing when submitting your turn?it still saves it and I can submit it through the (send local moves) option but now last turn worked fine and I don't see any new updates or crap.
>>556402414You can get a lot more tribute by buying a higher nobility title (Sanctum > Rank tab). The higher your rank, the more and the better tribute your offered, and you get to keep more of it. You also get to demand more tribute from other players.Increasing one of your powers to 4 also helps a lot due to the extra order. Then you can regularly spend one on tribute and still have two order slots left to get shit done. And if you think someone has been very passive and is probably gathering money, a bit of thievery might be in order. You could get lucky and snatch a big piece of consolidated tribute. Also consider whether you've got a use or purpose for all the shit you're buying, and whether your magic is strong enough to prevent everyone else from yoinking them right out of your vault as soon as you actually need them.
>>556402869It happens if you get disconnected from the server for any reason. The only solution is to restart your game and try again later
>>556406283Yeah, I had it happen before, but the serb didn't look like it was shitting itself.
Nets still need to hit, right? Was considering getting random netters against elves but if they need to hit vs zillion def I might as well stick to spells.
>>556388337Correct.I have so far fixed some of the graphical errors somewhat, if you've played on the one ported to 6 you probably came across the odd lines across the map that would make your dominion look wonky, and some provinces that didn't match their borders on the map. I think I've gotten all those, and I filled in names for some provinces that didn't have names. I have spotted a few pixels here and there that I missed in playtesting, but it's considerably improved so far.I tried running the command that auto fills isolated pixels or whatever before I tried doing it by hand, but it crashed the editor.I've added forts back to a few of the provinces I remember having them as well, though I'm sure I'm forgetting some.Currently in the process of going through the .map file and looking over the custom entries for provinces and fixing some stuff, which ballooned into me wanting to create themed starts for a custom game of my own. But, I'll remove that stuff from the map when I upload here, as it's likely to be unwanted edits.

One of the events is that God is getting tired of our shit and sends that thing down to hunt for sport. It wrecks the strongest legion of each player (although it doesn't shy away from annihilating anything else that gets in the way) and then fucks off.Still better than the one where an order of paladins on a mission sneaks into hell and start killing your praetors and breaking artifacts in your vault.Notice that it doesn't have any particular resistance to misdirection magic.

>>556438000No, outside of smashing another titan against them
>>556213819The re-modder in his finite wisdom took away poison resistance for most Skaven baseline units, and even the Stormvermin, for no reason I can understand, and the Censer Bearers + Plague MOnks, the Globardier throwers and the Warpfire throwers are the best units in the faction, so I guess he's just retarded. In any case if you build completely around plague units and avoid Stormvermin and all of the normal Skaven units (they have no poison immunity thanks to the BASED and BRILLIANT modder that did this with no announcement) you will do okay
As another note for the retard modder in question, basically no rats spawn for any of the Skaven units that are supposed to spawn them either. And the SCreaming Bell is pointless for all the pains it takes to get it
>>556447584To add to that, a Clan Eshin Fortress is also completely pointless because those units suck and you miss out on the most excellent Plague Guys because they have poison resistance and can kick ass, noone is going to choose to make an Eshin Clan fortress on purpose, and I signed up for the next game
If we're giving feedback here, the plagues felt really underwhelming. Very small amounts of gems, and the only plague that gives decent freespawn is the one gated behind one of the unique heroes. I also feel that all of the chaos god factions should give bonus bless points, not just Khorne and Slaneesh. I never got a foreign attack with the plague that did much of anything, even in testing. I'd also like the plague dominion from MA C'tis, but I know that would mean deleting that nation in the mod.
>>556422243No problem error anon, I'll change to another nation once I'm back from work. Are Cathay, Ulthuan and the French working as intended?

>>556433506>>556438000Surprisingly doable if we all cooperate. A few hellfire rituals to take it down to a few HP and then a legion with the Infernal First trait to finish it off is the easiest way I can think of.However,>if we all cooperateThere are also worse things out there and some can be bought in the bazaar if you've got enough cash. But generally you're just going to have to take the loss. Specially because I'd be surprised if you set up a fucking monster capable of beating this thing single handedly and you don't get at least 2 or 3 rituals sabotaging it for shits and giggles. It's also possible to win by capturing Pandemonium, which by late game has all stats in the high 20s. You can make some really broken combinations with high level legions and a good choice of praetor and artifacts
>>556466141Don't everyone else have to fight back to defend it?
>>556466947I guess you mean Pandemonium? If someone conquers it and holds it for don't how how many turns, they win.But attacking Pandemonium gets you excommunicated, meaning you're no longer bound or protected by the laws of hell so you become free game and everyone can go straight for your stronghold. It's not easy. There's also the Abyss ending. If all hell breaks loose and we all end up getting excommunicated, Pandemonium starts collapsing and Hell falls apart unless someone manages to conquer it and hold
>>556467646Ah so like thrones eaten ending in Dom

>>556493518Probably. The giants definitely do.
>>556494124Yeah I would have brought cyclops chaff if I was really worried about it. Kinda funny in retrospect because my golem would have killed that army solo I think, but I didn't want to risk Sceleria putting a few mages on advance and cast. They also lacked any turn 1 astral disruption, but I'm rolling MR high enough to mostly shrug that off while scripting iron will first. Having a ring of returning on a caster and not having it get triggered is always comical though.Sceleria has an issue with counter thugging because they generate so much chaff that without wading there is no way to get consistent contact with more than 1 at a time.

>>556447264In the original Warhammer tabletop, it might be a whole topic in itself what poison damage is in the setting and what should be resistent or immune to it. You might be able to get away with some type of diversity pretender that's dormant, but without the benefits of a bless I think its impractical to depend on your imprisoned pretender for value in the lategame, especially if its breaking into several new paths. I broke into glamour just before getting throne based glamour mages, and brute forced blood similarly. The key is to empower a W random cyclops into G to summon water kobolds, and then into B twice for blood stones. You can also go bronze colossus as Phlegra, but I personally dislike going BC so I never do. >>556586262>>556587667You could probably mod in Crannog Ys. Seriously, apart from any unique new mechanics, probably everything required to make Crannog Ys is already available. Need lore, graphics, mechanics, interesting gameplay, balance, playtesting, maybe some other stuff. And official seal of approval by Illwinter. Might want to ask them first, or set expectations clearly that it is just a mod to not get disappointed if it's never included in official Dominions.
>>556588361Shit you own gives you prestige every turn. Not sure if legions too, but praetors, sites, and I think artifacts do. Some things increase how much.Charisma has a few options, like a nice ritual where you get some prestige whenever people throw demands around. At the highest level there's also one that directly gives you some prestige.Constantly insulting people provides a nice supply, but you risk a vendetta of their choice. Demanding tribute gives you less prestige, but you still get some tribute and if they refuse, you're the one who gets to choose whether to challenge them to battle or to a duel. And in general, all the damage you can cause gives you prestige. Successfully hitting people with rituals, winning battles, etc.Prophecy also has a nice couple rituals where you get extra resistance against Deceit or Destruction, and some extra prestige when you resist a spell from these paths. It pairs well with an aggressive strategy: piss people off stealing or burning their stuff and shield up before they hit you back.
>>556588550Ysfag will spend 10 years of his life anonymously blogposting about Crannog Ys and thousands of dollars commissioning Morgen and Merrow lolis, but he will never, EVER commission a spriter and a modder to make him exactly what he's been wishing for.
>>556588884:)You will like what i have in store then
>>556588884To be fair, illwinter are probably in the best position to make new nations, also regarding experience, control, track record and options, and commissioning a mod might be very different than commissioning art. Like, an artist may have an established process for selling art, or be part of markets with such established process, and have portfolio, reputation and track record. Dominions modders probably miss at least some of thatI guess you could like message mu and pay him to make a crannog ys mod. >>556593431Honestly a good point, there could be risks there. Is there any precedent? Have any new nations been inspired in part by mods in Dominions, regarding mechanics, art or lore? What about the sprite art of Bogarus? I recall something about some of the sprites originating from mods or volunteers or something. Do people like the sprite art of Bogarus?
>>556594510The fennoscandia mod is pointed to as something that poisoned the well for a canonical finnish nation, and in more recent times illwinter has outright mentioned not implementing heroes because worthy heroes does such a good jobIllwinter themselves think mods are great and would love to see more
>>556588724Is it worth always advancing in rank?
>>556595147That's for you to decide.I can't imagine not going up at least once. Tribute is just too low at the lowest level, and the +1 to resisting spells is helpful too. Going all the way up feels a bit excessive, though. More of a "win more" option, or something for very long games.

>>556604684I saw a whole Reddit thread debating the topic, claiming that Warhammer tabletop used to have a lot of poison immune units, but that it was changed later, with much discussion over the ages on the topic. In game design, typically not everything can be modeled due to practical limits, and it would also often not be desirable to attempt it. On the other hand, the themes of a game can make the game design and rules more intuitive if they fit well together. Finding themes and game design that fits well can be a challenge, and sometimes it can be more difficult to figure out a decent approach that is intuitive and works and fits well regarding game design and theme.

>>556614254I saw one game for EA Berytos where the player took a dormant unbearable splendour bless to deter hellblesses and to help in a first war. But EA Berytos also have blood summon sacreds, and an expensive bless probably does not make sense for MA Phaeacia. In another game, a MA Phaeacia player had a lot of storm captains being used as battle mages and doing well at one point in the game, but the player might have overextended or ended up careless, and ended up losing as I recall.Storm captains with storm up and summon storm power can probably cast thunder strike once. They have significant encumbrance, so they can't cast it frequently given its high fatigue cost. The storm captains are not sacred. If you want to use the sacreds, a bit of shock resistance might be helpful. There are also some national rituals that might be of interest. The paths might be awkward, so it might or might not make sense to consider that regarding the pretender.Taking an awake or a dormant pretender that can forge dwarven hammers, maybe without boots (E4+ for monsters , E3+ for human mages and titans), should enable early on your colossi weavers to monthly forge (there is an automatic command) owl quills at construction 3 for 2 air gems. That might boost your research a lot. Also some national items.
First playthrough of these Dwarfs and they are the TITS. these runes RULE, hopefully these can put dwarfs on par with the various high end commander combatants that Chaos, Orks, and other nactions have. With their lack of access to so many spells, they might be the best for rushing enemies down early, I'd have to test it but damn are these dwarfs tough.
>>556616203thanks, i'll get the quills and got an e5a6 pretender with scalesdidn't get luck though i hope that isn't gonna be a gamechanger
>>556618354You might also want to test expansion in singleplayer games first, to see how many provinces you typically have by turn 12.MA Phaeacia also has special mechanics regarding sailing and dominion. If you want to, you can give reports here on how it goes for you. Though be aware of any opponents lurking here as well.
>>556607597Yeah well I don't know why I didn't put on a fireshield on that dude. Even worse is why you had that retreat province at all because I forgot to attack to cut off retreat routes, only snuck with those bakemono. All in all a clusterfuck of a turn, but its hard to spend the 2-3 hrs a day I need when I'm socializing. At least I still have 3 more golems left.
>>556610081In my drunk mind I was trying to soul slay out a bunch of twiceborn grand thaumaturgs but forgot that golems will never rout. Should have brought either my fireshield or a boots of the behemoth then went for melee, but I wanted to ensure I soul slayed the mages instead of trampled them. Also that was on short notice with whatever I had sitting around, although my inventory is getting quite full. Fucking idiocy I tell you.The other reason to send a golem is to avoid the feeblemind secondary effect of netherbolt.
>>556610737>In game design, typically not everything can be modeled due to practical limits, and it would also often not be desirable to attempt it. On the other hand, the themes of a game can make the game design and rules more intuitive if they fit well together. Finding themes and game design that fits well can be a challenge, and sometimes it can be more difficult to figure out a decent approach that is intuitive and works and fits well regarding game design and theme.now add in the difficulty of trying to do good game design while jumping through the hoops that illwinter makes you jump through to do even simple things>>556611870>>556613772>>556613772it's so that the bonuses that the unit gets when it is turned into a screaming bell are lost when the mount diesSo like in a battle, if the bell part dies, then the unit goes back to being a normal grey seerthe item has the #notmounted trait, so it is disabled when the unit is mounted. Much like boots
>>556621634Oh. Well hell yeah, that's cool. I'm still playing through with the dwarfs, this +4 to attack from the Rune of Battle is so nice, it turns hammerers into rape machines
>>556618354>didn't get luck though i hope that isn't gonna be a gamechangerFortune is peculiar and wonky, it probably won't change much. One specific combination might give you a lot of gems over time, though, but not all nations can even get it, and it might not be worth getting. Especially in EA, one should probably not take turmoil scales unless one is playing as Yomi, Lanka or Pangaea. Some events also depend on the age. Some events have turn requirements. Most players seem to mostly ignore fortune or take it as a nice, added bonus.
>>556622282yeah the pricing on those runes needs some tweakingBut also have to take into account that the dwarves can't do magic otherwiseThe concept I was shooting for was runes being an investment into a stackIdeally, the dwarves would play with a few megastacks that they just can't afford to loseA very slow crawling sort of expansionSo they struggle against raiding (now that I mention it they should have more anti-assassin stuff) but their innate siege strength bonuses make them adept at just marching towards your cap and taking it without much you can do.Obviously, these things have to be tempered by other considerations like balance and fun lolThe iteration never ends
>>556623767I totally get it, they feel really fun to play and have all of the dwarfish aspects you'd expect them to. Only question is if they are too OP and time will tell, I still haven't even made it to midgame jej
>>556621634>screaming bellThat makes a lot of sense.Though, is it possible for the unit to remount? Can it cast the ritual again? What about its bonuses and items?
>>556624395The SCreaming Bell can itself cast SCreaming Bell which I imagine would re-mount, I didn't try it for fear of a glitch taking out my cool lvl 7 vehicle
I was playing Na'ba in singleplayer today with a Man-Eater as the pretender, E6/B6, with the intention of using him to break into blood for the Djinn summons. I took too long before peeling him off to start blood hunting, but I was also trying to hit Const5/Blood5 to give my Ghulahs the Dowsing Rods. So here's my question: when you're going to do something like use your pretender to break into Blood, around what turn do you switch over?Maybe there's a larger question here about how to get blood going. It always seems like I have so much other stuff to do that the blood hunting stuff falls by the wayside.
>>556626986Usually it's really hard to make a blood economy without a decent supply of hunters so if you can somehow find a way to get blood mages without relying exclusively on your pretender, more power to you
>>556626986I've heard about blood hunting with commanders that don't have any paths.
>>556628674They only have like a 10% chance of succeeding iirc and sdrs don't improve their chance
>>556629580True, but, some commanders can also be really cheap. >>555760615
>>556626986What you do is blood hunt with your Tendie until you get enough Blood slaves to Empower a different unit into Blood. If you are at Cons5 then you give it a dowsing rod. You can then further empower that unit, or empower another one, and snowball from there. Remember to ALWAYS keep 5 units to Guard Commander on every blood hunter, and a rough rule of thumb is that you need about 20 units patrolling to neutralize one blood hunter's Unrest.
>>556624395>Can it cast the ritual again? What about its bonuses and items?yesit was really difficult to get it to work actuallybut yes
>>556630060As EA Xibalba I generally only use a maximum of 3 blood hunters per province, you can go higher but all of that generated Unrest stacks before your patrollers reduce it down again so beyond 3 in the same province in the same turn you can expect more attacks on your blood hunters.
>>556630060Empowering horror marks dudes now, no?
>>556630165I can see why people seem to really like not-Sombre Warhammer mod, you clearly put a lot of effort and care into it.

>>556630754>yearsThat sounds like a lot of work.Have you uploaded it to Steam?
>>556630060I was just playing around in singleplayer again, with a dormant Golden Idol, 4E/4B. With him I was able to get extremely good scales which made the expansion phase insanely easy using the camels. My idea was to blood hunt enough after he woke up to get a Ghulah, researching Blood 5 after my initial sprint to Evo4. I may try it again with a different guy - great sage maybe? - going for F3/E4/B4, the F3 giving me the paths to cast Summon Shaytan. The camels are just so good, recruit anywhere and the Sheikhs too mean reinforcing is super easy.

Warhammer anon, please change Death Frenzy from Alteration 4 down to at least Alteration 3, or put it in Enchantment. It is a really good spell but there is no reason to rush Alt 4 for Skaven and it often as not hits the Warpfire Throwers, it is a very good spell but not Alt 4 level
>>556641351On that note too, consider giving them their own Blood Fecundity spell. THe whole thing about Skaven is that they are overpopulated, Blood Fecundity as a National Spell would help emulate that, their native casters do not have 2B2N to cast it and it is perfectly appropriate
>>556639090I have a proposition to declare war on your unholy nation.

I will consider itMore likely I will make Gnawing rats trigger an event that gives some population every turn. but only in provinces owned by the rats
>>556644741If you linked Gnawing Rats to growing Unrest AND population growth in Skaven provinces, then they could have a whole minigame of trying to manage the growth and unrest to their advantage, there might be a cool Skaven game mechanic there.
>>556646341>If you linked Gnawing Rats to growing Unrest AND population growth in Skaven provinces, then they could have a whole minigame of trying to manage the growth and unrest to their advantage, there might be a cool Skaven game mechanic there.I agreeBut when adding stuff like that you have to be careful about the amount of late game tedium you are adding as well
>>556648896For sure. As is, Skaven need around 15 PD just to deal with their own Gnawing Rats, so ramping it up from there could contain them in the early-mid game and then enjoy the benefits and chaos later, would take some testing for sure

something I just noticed is that the Beastlands minotaurs don't have tramplewat think?now that I look, there are lots of things that don't make sense about BeastlandsI am going to give them a once over before we startAnd then I might play them unless someone else wants to
I hope I don't get my ass raped in the praetor fight
>>556659183the minos are already super good so giving them trample for free might be a bit op but i guess it would make them take extra hits and break formation
>>556659183Like the other anon said, the minos are good, it's everything else about the nation that is an issue.
>>556669662>>556671327What skeeves me out is that you have this unit in vanillaAnd generally the powerlevel of warhammer units is higher than vanillaThe dissonance gets to meNow the warhammer ones have armor and can be recruited in forestsBut then the nation also has some rather unorthodox constraints compared to a normal nation as wellIt's a crapshootI am really leaning towards giving them trampleI gave gorebulls an autocast of blessingand doombulls an autocast of divine blessingHowever, doombulls are now cap-only and more expensive
>>556672618Keep in mind that the Minos have +10 prot, are one size bigger, and +1 or +2 attacks each. I would take Beastland minos over Black Minotaur any day.I like those changes to Gorebulls/Doombulls. And yeah, the nation has a lot of constraint. Not having forts is very rough and income is lol lmao thanks to that +native debuff to scales. I like that you made Great Bray Shaman cheaper.
>>556672618Just give Beastland some bonus bless points to make up for the lol -4 turmoil penalty and beastland is ready to go imo.
>>556674353not having trample makes them a lot more vulnerable to elite size 3 units compared to black minotaursso it would be more situational than just one over the otherwithout trample you have to compare them to something more like Anakites
>>556674541>Just give Beastland some bonus bless points to make up for the lol -4 turmoil penalty and beastland is ready to go imo.Yeah probably a good idea
>>556674887Having 9 or 11 more prot (depending on the shape) make them significant tankier than Black Minos though, plus their prot hit well over 20 after the zerk. They also do far more damage on their hit, giving them trample would make them broken IMO.
>>556675249this is the powerlevel they are competing with
>>556675868That is a hell lot more expensive though, cap only and needs high domain to recruit.
>>556675996less than double the pricehow much more gold would trample be worth on the minos?
>>556675868khorne kinda has to have crazy powerful units tho cause they have complete ass magic
>>556676492>glances at beastlandsnot exactly a magecorps powerhouse over here bro
>>556676645Great Bay shaman are actually pretty good. I would take beastland mages over a lot of the other nations IMO.
>>556677038its a mixed bagthe lack of forts makes your magecorps vulnerableyou are incentivized to move them around, spread them outwhich has an indirect negative affect on your researchin any case, how much gold per mino is trample worth? 10? 15? 20? bear in mind that over 30 you have to price things in increments of 5alternatively I could make them a sort of hybrid between black minotaurs and anakites2 holy points
>>556677443You could make a separate unit that is cap only but gets trample and is 2 holy point, add 30 to the price or something like that.
>>556677718I will add 10 gold and make them 2 holy pointsand we will see if the trample is too strongIf it turns out to be oppressive i can always change it back

>>556687870I'm doing thrones turn 2 with 3 Minotaurs, this is hilarious.
wow cant wait to get run over by minotaur stacks.............................. thanks for giving them trample i guess...........
>>556674353They look a lot like burning ones from EA Abysia, except they might fit 2 in a square, have 3 attacks instead of 2, have more HP, are much faster, and have higher base damage before berserk. And then missing out on stuff like fire resistance and fire shield, and have 11 MR instead of 13.I don't think they will be worth the cost if they don't have a powerful and fitting bless, though. And the 11 MR needs to be handled somehow by the player.
>>556688449What do Wamham minos have that Pangea's don't? Do they all copy the Monster of the Maze's statline?
>>556691352See >>556674353.Lots more protection, greater attack skill, reinvigoration, and two more attacks at the cost of a few points of strength, bigger size for no HP benefit, and no recuperation.WH in general tends to give monster races less strength than their vanilla dom equivalents. Orcs in particular feel like they should be able to reach the threshold to use Bow of Titans with experience as standard, but are usually just a couple points above their human counterparts. Maybe if a promotion system was added to them so boys could eventually become nobs with a higher base strength? Most of the Touhou mod's basic units can beat WH's basic units at arm wrestling. :V
>>556684103>>556684672>>556688449The combination of super-high protection after berserk, high combat speed, berserk, trample, and sacred, might be rather powerful against vulnerable types of enemies, especially many types of indies. If that is not desired, lowering their protection substantially might work, for instance by something like replacing their "chain mail cuirass", 12 protection, with "looted pieces of armor", 5 protection. That also fits their sprite better. I don't believe any vanilla units wearing "chain mail cuirass" have naked torsos. Though I also don't know how other not-Sombre Warhammer mod units are equipped relative to their sprites.
>>556692794>>556688578>>556691352There might be the issue that they are sacred. That means that they can be given some resists and MR, making it significantly harder to counter them for some nations. They are already very fast with 15 combat speed, and trample, so mages raining down evocations will not have many turns to target them.Vanilla grove guards are also fast, 11 combat speed, with high protection, but they aren't sacred, so vanilla grove guards cannot easily be given resistances.Apart from vanilla grove guards, there aren't many units that are close to fitting the bill. Some elephants have high protection apart from great size, but they are not sacred, have low morale, and do not go berserk. Some chariot mounts have high protection, but often low MR and not sacred, or have weaknesses like the "stupid" tag and recruitment limit 1 such as the mushussu mount.Maybe lizard heirs are closest, since they are sacred. But they are also expensive cap-only commanders.
>>556693915>grove guardsin JBBM grove guard were made sacred and they instantly became the best sacred of the age, and this was in 5 where you couldn't attack while trampling. making the minos 2 sacred points would help but they're still gonna be monsters with a big bless and what else are you gonna take on beastlands? it's not like they need any scales
>>556652854I too get the urge to play EA Rus and bearmax upon seeing bears.
>>556694094Sacred tramplers with at least 13 protection are very rare in vanilla, only 5 such units, 3 of them are late-research summons, and the remaining two are expensive commanders.
>>556688449ok thats too strong lol
Minotaurs trampled the thread ...
>>556694094>Grove guards >GoodHuh?? How does trample make anything good?
>>556626986As a note, I brute forced into blood this game with barb chieftain and managed to get to get my first blood stone in about 15 turns, which for Phlegra takes about 100 slaves because of the master smith +1 on elder cyclops. Use barb chieftain because they are cheap, they tend to survive blood hunting assassinations without bodyguards, and having a pile of barb chieftain is useful for light thugs or anti-assassin commander spam. Try to hunt in provinces with your dominion around 10,000 population; the limit for 100% effectiveness is 7500 but patrolling tends to kill population so its best to setup somewhere a little higher. I go to a max of 10 barbs in a province based on patrollers available. Periodically if I get an unrest spike I stop hunting and patrol with everyone there.
>>556709856high prot anyfort berserking and a big damage attack for dealing with large targets + trample for dealing with chaff is a nice combo. make them sacred and you can give them a really nice bless to top it off
>>556714602Don't they have piss poor def tho
>>556714948tramplers having low defense is kinda whatever because they break formation and get surrounded anyway so having them be sacred is amazing cause you can give them a big defensive bless
>>556709856Elephants with defensive buffs?
>>556692794>If that is not desired, lowering their protection substantially might work, for instance by something like replacing their "chain mail cuirass", 12 protection, with "looted pieces of armor", 5 protection.this and lowering their combat speed might be my first nerfI would like to see the bless he used to determine how fucked his scales were>That also fits their sprite better. >>556912363>Blitzserver almost took 30 mins to host the last turn ...Is that with no AI players?
Long turns.
>>556900589No, but most people won't spam shit events like leviathan
>>556926194There is an active AI that has apparently gotten out of their cap (Phaeacia). Huh, there were a few turns that hosted almost immediately, yet most have taken about 10 mins on average; I didn't consider ai processing as the core cause, that's a very good insight. Thanks!
>>556900589If it hasn't been changed from the original: there's a deck of events and whenever someone turns regent, they draw one and the rest are returned to the deck. I don't know if they're shuffled in or placed at the bottom. So if you REALLY don't want something to happen, you can keep the event and never play it.Other than that, whenever someone draws an event and plays it, it'll happen and go back into the pool. Again, don't know if mixed in or at the bottom.
>Searched 'Colossal Fetish Expansion'Damnit Google this is not what I asked for!
>>556936737I've read Steam reviews complaining about the AI in lategame in singleplayer taking lots of time, like this one:https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561199117867878/recommended/2511500/I've experienced something a bit similar playing against impossible-level AI in singleplayer in some versions of Dominions, though I didn't mind it that much and don't remember it taking a very long time, just somewhat long time. It's kind of difficult, for Illwinter has also had criticism about the AI not being difficult. Other strategy games also often face such criticism. I think personally that Illwinter is doing a decent enough job, though I don't have a lot of experience with the AI in Dominions 6.
>>556938450That's funny.I usually add "dominions 6" to the search text, to help narrow it down for the search engine.

>>556948340Also, not sure if these have even been full ported to 6 yet, but Gathering Sturm and Confluence are pretty cool.
Well Xib, I checked that storm and I have some disappointing news. If you had cast iron wills on your god (AOE 1 MR+4) then they would have survived the battle. To be candid, bringing your god into heavy enemy dominion against a blood vengeance bless is always asking for trouble unless you have phoenix pyre available; the dominion reduction to pretender/prophet max hp can be devastating during long battles with regen ... as you just saw. But getting your god fluffed with iron wills is an essential for you, and might be worth bringing along one of your rare E indies to do that, saving a spell slot for your god.If you can find a way to get a few higher MR W2+ casters I'd start bringing them for cleansing water spam at the frontgate; I'd probably want an MR of 18 at minimum. If your method of fort storming is beating your way through the gate, you need to bring a little more boom.
>>556945483For a more refined game I'd recommend one of the ai spell casting mods such as Lucid's, this helps make the lategame more than just SCs running around by enabling mage teams to be more useful. There's a gem longevity mod that really helps in higher skill lobbies where people are willing to sell magic phase gem burns. Worthy Heroes is a solid mod. Sloops and Dominions Enhanced do, on the whole, allow more tactical expression, but each has some issues that are broken; DE is significantly more broken than sloops IMHO. But that seems to be what DE is going for so that works.>>556947401>ShillfraudConsidering the other members of that race are called shadows, shadow soldiers, and originate from the shadow lands, the natural name for such a thing would be shadow servant/scout/spy. The fact that you are focusing on this tells me that you are in fact the shill; there are so many more fucking important things to focus on. Like casting ai, operational planning tools, battle testing tools, or an actual sane lategame. The people clamoring about seduction have in fact lost their minds however, much like those who are offended by the mechanic of blood hunting, just in the opposite way you have. The 21st century is just full of snowflakes, its disgusting; if I could jump ahead to the 31st century after humanity is extinct I'd be much happier.

its getting close to turn 60 for make it happendo we want to change turns to 48 hours or keep it at the current 24? there are a couple big/complex(ish) nations still hanging around and quite a few of them have a ton of free spawn/blood hunting to manage so they might prefer longer turns
Good night /domg/
>>557013824I'm far into the point where I'd like 48 hrs but would settle for 36. I'm routinely having to give orders to 300+ commanders now, spend 5K gold while managing my blood hunting. Also, I do like a little time to think on things because things are getting complicated for me. Although it does seem that me and Abysia are the only two really taking a good bit of time on their turns.I'm dealing with magic phase golems, fire eles raiders, the absent assassins (seriously where are they ...), disease demon spam, and now mass mind hunt. That's just one of my fronts. So shit is starting to kick off. Heck I just had wind of death cast on me a few times by Sceleria. Nevermind the fact that Abysia is clearly rushing for either astral corruption or some other lvl 9 blood tech means things are gonna get nasty soon. Glad I started this war when I did.

How much morale do I need on my wannabe SC for him to not route against a large stack until near-twilight? Or is this only possible for undead and golems?
>>557047421I'm playing a human communion nation while blood hunting and commander spamming to deal with Abysia. I'm also nearly 100 provinces, with about 270 gem income, 90 blood income, and almost 30 dwarven hammers. It doesn't help that my style doesn't involve building out specific armies, but maximizing efficiency of force recruitment and then figuring out how to deploy the forces I have in some cohesive fashion. This tends to give me more resources than my opponents at the cost of operational complexity. After several runs with a nation I do fall into certain patterns, but I decided that I had to up my aggression before Abysia wins the game off lategame blood bullshit. If Abysia gets up astral corruption I need to be close to killing them ... although I am setting up a few anti-horror provinces to continue using magic it will screw my army forces. Abysia is clearly stocking blood slaves instead of spending them in war on me.
>>557054170How'd you bootstrap into blood?
>>557060683Barb chieftain, but afterwards I got both circle masters and arch wizards of the dark arts. I was fully into blood and had my first bloodstone by turn 40. What's nice is I have 60 barb chiefs that I'm throwing into the Abysian front, with any that get 2 stars getting a shiny new sword and antimagic amulet. Its far easier to break into blood with barb chieftain than you might think. With 30 of them blood hunting, and with solid patrol chaff you should be getting more than 10 slaves a turn, with occasional crazy spikes. Barb chieftain are cheap, and tend to survive blood hunting event battles without needing bodyguards due to berserk, as a large number of hunter deaths occur due to hp routing. For instance, Ghulah without bodyguards will lose around 1/4 of their blood hunting event battles even having the second form and regen, nearly always due to running away.

>>557366719I can answer for Ermor, he's been my ally the entire game and I've come to the conclusion I cannot actually win, and I don't feel like letting the person whos stabbed me three times out of our hellwar so I can attack my ally pointlessly.
>>557366719A mixture of things. Ermor got large enough that it was starting to warp the gamestate slightly, where everyone had the decision to fight Ermor or risk more of their potential future lands going to shit. I invested a decent bit of resources preaching on our border with telestic animates and temples and I still have half a dozen dead provinces. The large map doesn't help either, combined with me running a strong pace has made my neighbors less prepared to fight me right now, beyond just the inertia from setting up for another war then needing to transition to fighting elsewhere. To be candid, I have a crazy assortment of stuff this game which is somewhat outrageous. Suggestions for playing MA Arco? From what I've read they're a communion nation. They definitely have expensive troops, but their mages seem spammable.I played one SP game and ran into Ind, which had stacks upon stacks of troops compared to me, and then had a contingent of sacred archers that continuously rained precise fire arrows on everything.

>>557450660I think I'm going to go for +3, even the lowly Alt2 Burn in an H4 province becomes a guaranteed death sentence after 10 turnsIt's gonna suck though, after about 20 turns my pops recruitment points will drop enough so I'll only be able to make 6 sacreds a turn instead of 7 so not thrilled about that. unless I rush Motheroak... hm>>557450632It's MA, doesn't look like any nation in this game will have heatpower unless someone jumps in as Abyssia or Naba

The Fairy of Thugging has manifested in your chamber in the middle of the night. She says a great battle is approaching and will offer you one item of your choice from the digital wargame Dominions 6:Rise of the Pantokrator, so that you may “thug effectively” and protect your “home province”. What do will you choose? I would take the Flesh Ward, yes even with the horror mark.
>>557488982Companion Bracelet, Amulet of Giants or Bone Armour, depending on what "great battle" means.
>>557489383Maybe its a massive scam and the Fairy of Thugging is going to make all of the people she visited fight in the arena. Maybe its a world war. Who knows, the Fairy of Thugging doesn’t say

>>557488982Amulet of Doppelganger for maximum stealth and catfishing potential
>>557478720Indirect strategies can work. Remember that their sacred knights are cap-only. This means that if you cast black death or similar rituals on their capital a few times, they won't be able to recruit as many knights. Unrest-increasing approaches, bane venom charms, etc., might work as well.In straight combat, gifts from heaven work. Apart from that, cap-only troops are more difficult to replenish than other troops, so "even trades" where they lose cap-only troops and you lose other troops, will favor you.Their knights have good attacks, and their charge deals good damage, but the unicorn magic weapon alicorn horn is not super-high damage. A SC with very high protection against mundane attacks, and high protection against magical attacks, might exploit this, like casting invulnerability and then have 26+ armor protection against magical attacks with other layered defenses. The chorus communion will not have access to soul slay, instead primarily nature and glamour spells. The knights and mounts have high MR, 13 and 14 respectively, but it is not super-high. Spells like wind of death, especially with MR penetration boosters, might work well, even though the knights are long-lived. MA Man does not have astral mages, so even though they have national chorus communion spells, they probably can't cast antimagic, unless their pretender can summon golems or ether lords or they have independent mages with astral or broke into blood with one of the astral devils, etc.
>>557478720>>557495842For regular evocations, remember that to protect against shock, a very high resistance level is needed for some spells, due to armor-negation. While their crones of avalon have air randoms, and they thus can get shock resistance buffs into their chorus communions, only about 1/5 crones have an air random. As an example, if a knight of avalon has 5 SR from the bless, the AOE1 part of thunder strike will still generally kill him, and the AOE10 part might randomly damage him. Also, some remote damage rituals, like murdering winter, won't give the units a chance to bless up, I believe.
>>557478720>>557495931Besides that, knights have great defenses and protection, but they are also expensive and do not have that much hp, so certain kinds of units with very high damage, combined with some spells, might trade efficiently against them.

How do you fight MA Ashod as MA Arco. Singleplayer, and the AI has an earth serpent god that tags along with its army. My troops do nothing, and I tried a communion with my mages that accomplished a total of squat.
>>557544065Soul Slay or communion up and cast Gifts from Heaven
>>557544065What research and paths on your pretender do you have, and how desperate are you for time/turns?
>>557549845Conjuration 2, Alteration 2, Evocation 2, Construction 3, Enchantment 2, Thaumaturgy 3. I was using my pretender for site searching an eventual item forging. I think I just started this war too early.
Well that could potentially be quite the funny partial turn if blitzserver stays down. And yes I'm somewhat sorry for shitting this place up yesterday, but its important not to show those bots weakness. So much of Dominions is about making your opponent fail their IRL morale checks, thus its important to adopt the right attitude; you can keep punching me in the face all your want, but eventually you'll hurt your hand.
Burden of Time
>>557552836Second the idea of a communion, with gifts from heaven amongst the best option. The TLDR of the situation is your troops lack the damage to kill Ashdod's troops in any meaningful fashion, although unless Ashdod has a regen bless then in theory you can beat them with enough garbage. If you wanted to fight with your troops being the killing element, casting things like strength of giants + steel slice warriors + quickening + gift of the furies on a pile of infantry, even shitty infantry, will let them kill shit. You could also take a crazy offensive bless, but MA Arco is the "mindhunt + human communions" nation so ... Early on if I were desperate I'd rush thaum 4 for paralyze, and probably try to get to const 3 for Great Swords of Sharpness. Putting them on your mounted commanders and enlarging them will allow them to wade, which is probably necessary to kill the earth snek without soul slay or incinerate. You can also possibly attrition them, because trading 150 troops for 6 sacreds is actually unsustainable for Ashdod but is just gold for Arco.

>responding to a bot
>>557552836Hope you're playing on high site frequency then
>>557552836Gifts from heaven is evocations 5, and soul slay is thaumaturgy 5. Enslave mind is thaumaturgy 6. You are right about timing when you hit research targets regarding plans and starting wars, but Dominions 6 is also a complex game, and making plans without experience and game mechanic knowledge can be difficult. You can watch videos and other media regarding Dominions, the Steam forums have a pinned thread regarding some options. Dominions 6 is also the kind of game where reading some of the manual can be helpful. How many sacreds is the AI using absolutely as well as relative to other troops, and what bless does it have?Normally, body ethereal is a good spell for MA Arcoscephale, since it is available at alteration 3, and you have easy access to astral magic. But MA Ashdod's sacred cap-only troops have a magic weapon apart from their horn attack, ignoring ethereal.I would have liked glamour on your pretender, just a few path levels. Glamour has some neat options, for instance, some glamour-nature summons are good, and outside enemy evocations, they would have been able to hold the line for some time against giants due to the giants having few attacks per square, making it more difficult to overcome the high defense skill and mirror image from the glamour ability of some troops. The giants are going to easily punch through your troops' armor, so outside something like repelling, you should probably just recruit hordes of cheap troops, to act as a meatshield and give your mages time to communion up and cast spells. If you have any water gems, at conjuration 3, you can summon yetis, which you can set to fire missiles. Some other summons that you can throw gems at as well.
>>557552836>>557586626But yeah, trying to gather a large army, a good number of mages, set up a communion that will not fatigue your mages to death (try to have many more communion slaves than communion masters), and then get either evocation 5 or thaumaturgy 5, may be the most direct way. Conjuration 3 has power of the spheres, and conjuration 4 has light of the northern star, both great for astral communions. Cast power on the spheres on one of your masters after communion is up, since it will propagate to your slaves and lessen fatigue from astral spells, and cast northern star a single time with one commander. You could basically go for thaumaturgy 5 and conjuration 4, have your god ritual summon whatever you think could be good, mass a lot of cheap troops, and then try to take a fight with lots of troops, and lots of mystics and some astrologers. Some other poster suggested greatsword of sharpness thugs, but your mounted commanders are rather fragile against giants and can easily get killed randomly in a battle. It's something you can try, but with soul slay at thaumaturgy 5, especially if the enemy pretender is in your dominion and gets reduced MR and you have a good and large communion with power of the spheres and light of the northern star, I doubt it will be necessary. The main danger I see is the mages dying from arrow fire or communion slaves dying from fatigue, or you running out of chaff or them running due to morale. Use strategos to lead, maybe cast a protective buff or two after communion up, and have significantly more slaves than masters. Maybe try a ratio of 1:6 masters to slaves, and have at least 30 astral mages before taking a battle. In later stages of the game, getting army regeneration and relief up is helpful to let your communion slaves survive.
>>557552836Once you have reached thaumaturgy 5 and conjuration 3, if you have nothing better to do with your pretender, you could forge shaman's staffs and equip them to your communion masters for a tiny boost. You can also consider forging a few protective items for your communion masters, but putting all your mages in the back with a good number of bodyguards against any random flying summons or attack-rear units, might be sufficient.
