You can skip to the latest arcs/regions and then go back to do quests from the beginning or just start from the beginning and continue. Beginning is slow, lots of padding and sci-fi jargon that's semi-important, but delivered via somewhat monotone dialogue. Otherwise take it at your own pace. There's a shit-ton to do.

Get Verina from the standard character selector and the blue sword or pistols from the standard weapon selector. Most pulls come from exploration and quests.There'll be a New Voyager banner after you hit union level 5, pity from that banner does not carry over, so if you're planning on getting anyone from it (Shorekeeper is the best choice, everyone else is powercrept unless you have the latest support), be prepared to have to roll 160 times if you lose the 50/50. You'll figure the rest out yourself.
