Finished Break the Ice! Wow, I have a ton to say! Which makes sense because this was definitely one of the longest Arknights events I've read so far. Kjerag itself was a cool setting; this was my first step into the country so I ended up thinking about it a lot. As a Lateranofag I drew a lot of comparisons between it and Kjerag; both being faith-based societies somewhat apart from their political neighbors, their differences were really neat. Laterano's easy-going, almost naturally faithful lifestyle was completely different from the deliberate, active, and very reverent customs and practices of Kjerag. Their methods of reaching out to their estranged geographical neighbors (Kjerag through trade and industry, Laterano through networking and leverage of their reputation), their outlooks on life, even the way they both seemed "unblighted" by Oripathy (although it's somewhat false in Laterano's case), it was really cool to see two societies with the same basic premise end up so different in so many ways. All that to say I think that's where Arknights shines the most, its settings and worldbuilding, and Break the Ice didn't disappoint there. A lot of neat details brought Kjerag to life.The plot itself was good, and I think it was made more enjoyable by the fact that it didn't try too hard? It wasn't an attempt to be anything particularly epic, it was just a tale of political intrigue told well. I'm really glad there was no attempt to "whitewash" SilverAsh, or "it was all a test, Doctor!" the whole thing. His role as the "villain" of the story was both really interesting and fitting, given how hard the game tried to impress upon us how dangerous he could possibly be. It also didn't fall into the trap of trying to hard to write a smart person being smart; SilverAsh was clearly the smartest key player aside from the Doctor, but it never felt like he was unrealistically planning things or that everyone around him was made to be dumber for him.

I especially liked Arctosz, the absolute faithful is one of my favorite archetypes and his worries about SilverAsh's effects on the people were genuine and understandable. I think I liked Ratatos the least, even though I could understand her situation of not having the resources or capabilities of the other clans and resorting to schemes and deals to maintain her people's status. I didn't dislike her, I thought her constant back-against-the-wall position was neat, I just didn't connect with her like the others.Enya and Ensia kind of surprised me, though! Ensia not so much, she was very cute and determined and I've always liked her, so I'm really happy she got some time to shine this event. But Enya wasn't that particularly interesting to me until now. She was really noble and dignified in all things, and also extremely capable. Really enjoyed her speech at the end. I do think a massive writing failure of the event is that in the first Kjerag event the coolest character in the whole thing is a Rhodes Island operator. Sharp is easily, easily my favorite Elite Operator, he's so SICK. His pure professionalism and trust in the Doctor were both neat, but I appreciate any time an operator questions the Doctor's choice or asks for clarification. I also didn't expect him to be able to fight toe-to-toe with Degenbrecher, that whole sequence was one of my favorites by far. Standout character for me, easily.There's a lot more I'd like to say but I'm really looking forward to seeing where the story goes next; SilverAsh did get a lot of the things he was aiming for, so Kjerag's in for a lot of change. It might be a couple days before I start the next one but I know absolutely nothing about it so I'm looking forward to being completely blind. Still, not sure how they'll be able to top this one as an opener. Kjeragbros really ate good with this event!
