All I'm missing for my AC7 trophies now is the one for flying in campaign a bunch and playing 50 matches of each multiplayer mode. Might renew my PS Plus sub just to get those done and fuck around with boomer planes, I never realized it till I was replaying 7 but the F-104 is really fun. The rockets fucking, I wish I they were individually fired instead of in one salvo on target, but the other two missiled are fun. Running it with SAAM's is essentially using it the exact way it was intended as a high altitude inteeceptor. I hope it's back for 8 alongside some other planes from its time period.

Also I fucking hate Faceless Soldier and honestly I think I might hate Bunker Buster too. The latter isn't bad unless you're trying for an S rank but Faceless Soldier is just unfun no matter what.
>>
>>556690352
*fucking suck
I supposs they have a niche use against thingd like ships and other high health ground targets, but I prefer the dumb rockets so I can vaporize a big bunch of targets.
>>
>>556690352
>Faceless Soldier
I bitched about it a lot a thread or two ago but I do like it as a story mission. It's classic Spare Squadron working above their paygrade doing some important and difficult shit, escalating into needing to punch above their weight as they become the first to encounter Erusean IFF-spoofing drones AND Helios Burst Missiles. No matter how many times I see Spare stick with Trigger it puts a smile on my face, and Bandog making on the spot decisions like giving Spare weapons/authorizing repair lines/eliminating Full Band's loose lipped ass really makes me appreciate him. Gameplay wise it's not too difficult to zoom and boom the radar sites to get through the mission.

On the flipside, FUCK doing Faceless Soldier for the S-Rank or the ace scheme. Genuinely infuriating.

We begin work on another! I think this one would come across very familiar to those who've played a certain blockbuster videogame franchise.
>>
>>556680606
I’m generally bad at the gameplay, but MGS3 was infuriating and embarrassing for both.
I really liked 2s story and it’s correct length. But meeting Emma was… also really embarrassing.
>>
>>556692173
Don't get me wrong I love it as a narrative piece but God I cannot stand the level design. I find it's particular gimmick annoying and I'm really bad at flying so I bump into the mountains a lot lol
>>556695662
Honestly I just kinda assumed that since take AC and MGS take the pic related approach to writing that they'd appeal to people in the same way. Gotta say though with 2 I still don't know how I feel about, I absolutely love Raiden's character arc and the message of the game, but I find the actual story is not that appealing to me. Plus there's some fuckass early 2000's localization bullshit going on with the story too, the head localizer admitted she essentially rewrote much of the dialogue because Kojima can't write for shit. While that is true to an extent, that's not your fucking job you absolute bitch. So now it makes me wonder if the story I played was as intended, same with MGS1. Admittedly some of it is hipsterism though because 2's story is jerked off endlessly and I don't think it's entirely deserved, but gameplay wise I still think 2 is my favorite. It's so tightly wound and the Big Shell is just a fantastic location for a stealth action game.

Well shit that's unexpected. Games that aren't focused on planes but still include have such weird depictions of them, you could get a lot of ideas from COD or Battlefield planes. There's also a desert camo livery for it and in some shots this livery has kill tallies and an emblem on the nose.

>>
>>556695662
Different anon but the problem I had was making the dumb decision of playing MGS3 before MGS2.
MGS3 genuinely clicked for me and I found about 90% of it fun to play (that last-second Eva escort section was ass and made me lose both my patience and my tranq-only run) and I eventually replayed and beat it on European Extreme.
I played MGS2 some time after my first run of MGS3 and quickly realized what a shitter I am at stealth games and how much I relied on the camo index to tell whether or not enemies could actually see me.
In regards to the story, a lot of people try and waffle on about how 5deep6me Video Game Auteur™ Kojima's writing is, but fact of the matter is that MGS is ultimately the product of a nerd from Japan who grew up on schlocky Hollywood action movies wanting to distill decades of schlock into a video game. Once I squared that away, I ended up enjoying the ride for at least the first 3 games and Peace Walker.
I think 4 and 5 is where it goes off the rails considering every successive game since 3 was intended to be the last in the series.
>>
I don't know how you people are so optimistic about the release date. To me, given the fact that they haven't even uploaded a single gameplay trailer, makes me think the release is coming in late 2026, if it even releases this year at all, I wouldn't be surprised if it got delayed honestly.
>>
>>556718138
theres gameplay footage in the announcement trailer, the brand director is constantly tweeting about bugfix checks which implies to me that the game is basically content complete, bamco sent out a survey to fans about what they'd like to see in the next info drop, there's no way in hell they're going to release it near GTAVI, they've been working on it full send since 2021, the game engine they're working on is an iteration on the game engine they used for 7 and is also basically industry standard by now, the dev team is no longer sweating bullets on whether their game will be cancelled by their publisher on a day by day basis, they're no longer split on working on a VR segment that sucks up precious resources and time.

I thought mgs2 had a good story and it was entertaining at the very end. But I do think it’s overhyped kind of like ac4s story. That being said I did truly enjoy mgs2 despite being terrible at it. Then when I played 3 after that, I just lost it. It was only through sheer anger disappointment and reluctance that I was able to get through Kojimas-then magnum opus of a Japanese nerd kids wet dream. But I can appreciate how well it was designed and how it pushed the hardware to the absolute limit. I should try to actually complete mgs1 one day.

Usually the meme is that plenty of non-sportsball normalfags watch the bowl for the ads/halftime show, but this year's halftime was pretty forgettable (I guess the camerawork at the beginning with the sugarcane was neat) and most of the ads were for AI services and had soulless writing. The game itself was also a bit of a drag since defense isn't exciting to watch, but the Pats getting shut down so incredibly hard was funny. Seahawk kicker got fucking robbed out of MVP title though, he scored more points by himself than the Patriots did in total.

>>
>>556812504
Part of it was hipster-y jokes by non sport watchers who were unable to appreciate watching two teams of athletes perform at the highest level, part of it was that ads in the past tried to be interesting. It costs millions to get a spot during the ol' superb owl, so it a way it was the ad agencies' championship night as they tried to leave the strongest impression on viewers. Apparently the Big Brother Mac commercial was first on the superbowl. So I guess I kinda get it, it's kinda like people watching CES/E3 (rip) coverage or tuning in to TGA for the trailers.

Literally fucking no ads were even remotely interesting in this one. It felt like another place where AI fags were wasting money and intruding in for no good reason. Really terrible when all I wanted was to watch people play a fucking sport.

Yea Gun-based SHORAD's getting more life beyond point defense for Missiles and maybe mortars now.

Although the question becomes what gun to use as well you got big drones where regular 20-35mm AA Guns are fine but then the small fucks where .50 cal or even 7.62 might be sufficient as a flyswatter.
Although with a lot of these large Shahed drone what's the difference between them and say a Cruise Missile at this point.

I believe something like AHEAD is still ideal for a Shahed type loitering munition. Making each round smart may seem more expensive at first, but you're probably saving money in the long run by having a better hit and kill probability across the front, even with compared to something cheap like dumb .50 rounds. 30mm AHEAD is ~1000 USD a round, that's pretty good for a smart round.
Keep in mind these loitering munitions are only going to get faster, smarter, and fly higher as time goes on. That's gonna severely reduce the effectiveness of dumb rounds.
As for FPV's, a 7.62 on a RWS should be sufficient. Those Ratshot rounds that are coming out of the Slavic Slapfight, combined with optical tracking, should be pretty effective.
>>
>>556862043
Still funny how TV guided missile+Wire Guidance has come back into fashion with how Fiber Optic drones are getting so much mileage due to ECM no-go zones where other drones go stupid once they enter.

But the current appeal of loitering munitions right now is relatively low costs. Making them more survivable or faster and smarter tends to have the issue of their costs starting to rapidly increase. The McShahed's already a good deal more expensive even if it's more capable of being retargeted and data-linking. Not up to full size Tomahawk costs yet but a full sized cruise missile got that advantage of being launched from HolyFuckFarAway still at least.

Obviously, in a case of actual open war merchant vessels are just free targets, but in the context of this gayass Cold War 2(arguably not even a sequel but the same Cold War in a new phase), it seems like a really bad idea and pushing the envelope of what it takes for a country to actually declare war.

pretty much
once the plane's two feet off the ground the pilot initiates a stall to hit the ground (anything over than two feet and the landing gear's toast)
the wingtips are also reinforced with titanium because they 100% expect the thing to keel over onto one of its sides once it hits the ground.

I'm actually hopeful. I still believe that its a port or a remaster most probably. BUT, Project Aces did already remade the classic game missions for infinity, so it wouldnt surprise me that they decided to remade Zero for Ace Combat Online and then added the original cutscenes in 720p/1080i or maybe even 1080p which is quite probable for 2006 japan along with a singleplayer mode and called it a day.

>>557081507
ok imagine you get an amount of energy that recharges every 12 hours
and you need the energy to participate in any activities beyond just looking at your airplane

Every multiplayer match you played required at least one unit of fuel, and you could use multiple units for extra rewards. You got three fuels a day in addition to login bonuses and random drops. I mean GBO2 was the only non-mobile platform.
It also probably got them the 3D models to last another decade + and pretty much evolved into a "Every single UC Mobile Suit and weirdo variant from a random manga is here now"
Also the entire fact that each Gacha is aggressively in it's own lane helps too so the market's not actively eating itself.
Although GBO2 itself wants you to play 3 matches a day with the gacha currency drops (unless you have "Get a Win" objective which means you'll get pilots are either drunk or have walleye vision.)

Its been a long time since I tried but I think you can. Did you try lobbing a bunch of QAAM's at the same yellow? I know it won't do anything as they are invincible but I'm sure its possible to hit them.
>>
>>557119941
I tail-chased the lead yellow in an X-02, they dodge QAAMs pretty well and I think guns just phase through them since even dead-on shots don't prompt the 'hit' graphic to show up.
(Also between writing the text above and this part, I looked up a video and found that some guy managed to shoot down a Yellow with infinite ammo and time limit cheats, after dumping a Macross-tier amount of QAAMs at one Yellow for over 8 minutes (part of which was sped up). So it seems they just have an absurdly high healthpool to the point that you can't feasibly down them in normal gameplay.)

Ace Combat but in Wingdings.
>>
Last thread we were discussing how oddly low the death toll for the Belkan nukes was and I found out about this.
https://acecombat.fandom.com/wiki/Confession_of_a_Soldier
It was a series of short stories released as a promotion for Zero's release, written as the journal of a Belkan soldier. I'm sure some of you already knew this existed but I want to draw attention to something from the final entry.
>They say that there were several nuclear explosions at the same time. I'd heard the rumors that the military had been developing a small type of nuclear weapon called the "radioactive detonator" over the years. The radioactive detonator is extremely powerful yet quite small, outwardly seeming to resemble an ordinary hand grenade. Its blast radius can be adjusted in increments of 100 yards, and it can be detonated by simply moving a slide-type trigger on the upper part of the detonator. I bet the wicked are in love with this kind of weapon.
Obviously things like this should be taken with a grain of salt as far as canonicity, but I think this does point to the idea the devs were thinking of the Belkans using a sort of micronuke. Also in 5, Alyosha mentions that the V1 nuke they got their hands on is pretty small. The numbers are still off and the mushroom clouds we see that represent the explosions are pretty standard ones but I think they underestimated what kind of effect this would have. Or it could be a translation error, but it's one that's persisted for over 20 years so I'm leaning towards it being a simple mistake on the writers' part.
>>
>>557196045
In other words, the point of the nukes wasn't to destroy the enemy, but to intentionally poison their land with nuclear fallout to block land invasion.
>>
>>557196045
Didn't know about those actually
>resemble an ordinary hand grenade
We made those in the 50's and we learned they were worthless as weapons being subkiloton weapons and other issues.
Two more reason do exist one has a IRL example right now for why the death toll was so small as war approaches the city many people flee leaving only those who refuse to leave for various reasons and the cities population is but a fraction of what it was just a few weeks prior.
2nd reason is these are more like small "cities" who populations is just a few thousand each max. As in they weren't cities at all they were just towns. Nuking 7 towns doesn't sound no where as horrible as nuking 7 cities does.
>>
>>557197547
Basically. At one I thought that the towns they nuked were the ones who surrendered to the allies but really it was a batshit desperation move by the the military to try and stop the allies from setting foot into Belka proper.
>>557197648
Yeah there's a lot of ways to make the numbers make sense but at the end of the day it's all headcanon. At the end of the day the bodycount is irrelevant when the point was the shock of a country nuking itself. Still fun to discuss stuff like this though.
>>
>>557197648
>2nd reason is these are more like small "cities" who populations is just a few thousand each max. As in they weren't cities at all they were just towns.
There are settlements in the UK that are called cities because they have a Cathedral, which leads to places like St Davids, Pembrokeshire (population: 1600) and St Aseth, Denbighshire (Pop: 3600) being called cities. I don't know if Germany - therefore Belka - had a similar thing but it shows there's a historical basis.
Still, the most likely answer is the writers of Zero massively underestimating the scale of the death. It's a common error in war fiction.

Not just game stuff, but EXTREMELY NERDY game stuff. It's an expensive bitch (especially considering a second hand GameBoy goes for half the price), but his remade GameBoy literally uses a custom display because nobody makes a backlit 160x144 panel, housed in a magnesium body, with a gorilla glass or sapphire screen, and built in usb-c for video capture/streaming. It's super pricey but I have to admit it's a fine piece of kit, and the man's teasing a remade N64.

In a just world Luckey never takes sells out Oculus to Zuckerberg so all the early developers don't lose interest in the platform, and that combined with his autism push VR ten years ahead of where we are now. He then uses his Oculus money to fund these mod retro things as well as any other gamer nerd shit he wants to do, and he never joins the tech bro cabal that's either frauding or colluding with the feds.

If there's one thing I'm hoping for with AC8, it's allowing us to "upgrade" weapons. Like giving standard missiles a 4 shot volley. Or unguided bombs a 4 shot volley too.

I though something was off with them, turning their settings down to medium helps but than they look subpar. I will try messing with volume next.
>>
>>557355984
I have a 4080, but I’m on a 4k TV with vsync on at 60fps limit. I used max settings for everything including cloud quality, except I set the volume or percentage of clouds at 200%. It only stutters when I launch nukes or when Faust is falling out of the sky. I think the mission consequence of power I had some minor drops too. 150% still looks great. Another thing, using Anti Aliasing is subjective and I had it turned off because I thought it looked worse. Resolution scale set to 100% the default. And I’m using a farther away FOV which hurts performance.

During conquest mode Alert level 33 i had to start turning the clouds down. The lowest I had them was 100% for level 40.

>I don't know if anyone maintains our emulation guide but the section on PPSSPP seems out of date, it mentions some settings I cannot find at all.
Many parts of the guide were written when Dornievich took a deep-ass dive into emulation back in 2018, so it's no wonder that many parts are outdated. Some buddies have updated it over the years, at least, but Dornie did the bulk of the work.
>>
>>557433337
It doesn't, really. ACX's guns just lock on to their target within a certain radius of your plane's nose. The sight itself is just as cosmetic as AC7's.
>>
>>557457267
And the radar gunsight part in 7 doesn't actually do anything? I've never really bothered trying it even when I was doing my guns only run, mostly because the pulse laser counts as a gun.
>>
>>557457759
No wait never mind forgot that only works with the internal laser the Raven and Darkstar have, the Fishbed's gunpids have their own reticle.

>>557357525
I was able to buy enough headroom just by dropping the cloud resolution one step from "extreme" to "very high". Looks almost the same in practice. The game may just not be the best optimized. I noticed a couple of small graphics glitches as well, but nothing game breaking.

I am enjoying the game so far (first 8 missions) but it feels far easier than AC7 on hard to me, due to the lack of challenging stage gimmicks and time limits. I think I am going to download a completed save to unlock mercenary difficulty and restart the campaign on it. On one hand I found a lot of the levels on AC7 frustrating and wanted some more straightforward "kill them all" style stages, on the other it was satisfying to beat. I do think having special multiple weapon systems at once in PW is an improvement over AC7 however.

To be fair, buying other European stuff would have more weight if France weren't the only ones that refuses to put ITAR restricted components in their stuff. This way, if Leonardo wins a contract, people working for Rheinmetall will be able to work.

In fairness, there's not a lot Europe lacks in that department, aside from Stealth Aircraft. Most stuff can go toe-to-toe with their American equivalents, or are close enough to where operational factors are more likely to determine success. The issue is scale, there just isn't enough of any individual piece of equipment.

why dont those EU countries elect politicians that dont institute intentionally crippling industrial policies cough germany cough instead of whining about the french not being eager to create export rivals

I like it, maybe they could start by integrating basic industries like coal and steel into a sort of common market. So long as no member in this community elects a party who thinks the union is satanic, Europe could have the potential to really stand on its own as a superpower in its own right.

That's because Gripen thing has been horrendously misrepresented by the Canadian government and newsrags. They're still buying F-35s, but the way it's talked about the average normalfag would think they're replacing them all with Gripens. And I think supplementing their airfleet with cheaper Gripens in addition to F-35s is a pretty smart call, plus Saab's supposedly going to open up manufacturing in Canada if that deal goes through.
>>
>>557537460
My point is more if sole reliance on the US is the primary concern, which it is for most of the people advocating for a mixed - or non US uniform - fleet, why choose Gripen? Rafale is objectively the better choice by that metric.
>>
>>557542308
Because cost is also a major concern and Rafale is stupid expensive. $200 million per aircraft for something roughly equivalent in capability to a Super Hornet (~$80 million flyaway cost). Gripen is less capable but far cheaper to operate.

Man, after medal/cheevo hunting nearly everything else playing a Photon Blitz speedrun is so relaxing. Not needing to deal with any silly restrictions and just going for mission targets instead of score goals or ace spawn requirements is a breath of fresh air. Still need to play more TDM and fly a whole lot in campaign maps, but it'll be nice to get this 100%'d before 8 releases.

Also the same, cool knowing that 8's reveal trailer also woke up the PS servers just like it did Steam's. If you play regularly enough these days you'll notice player IDs pop up again and again, which is always a comfy feeling with smaller online games. I figure people are trying to get a good dose of multiplayer/also trying to get the sortie achievements before 8 rolls out. Also the game is so "mature" that a lot of the players still around are oldheads open to just playing for fun and in silly builds vice top-tier max kill builds.

"most fun"? usually it would just be your standard builds, since sniping people out with cheesy builds eventually gets boring as shit, and you wind up speedrunning the room to finish quickly, which isn't all that fun either. it's not really fun to be in a room with faggots like those in general.

I guess you can LAAM them out with an FB-22 (if you have it) or Foxhound, but that's more of a "no one gets to have fun anymore" nuclear option if anything.
The F-2 hybrid build in the OP is really good against Darkstar spammers, but even with max range upgrades HVAAs don't keep you out of the EML sniper zone so you still need to be careful of those and it's not really agile enough to deal with QAAM spam.

I usually stick to my hybrid Su-33 for those cases as they like to sit in the middle of the furball but I tend to swap to my TGM Su-57 if the QAAM/EML guy is a CiC, it handles really well at high speeds and has HCAAs so I can kill them during the smallest window the only problem is getting used to it's optimal turning speed (1800-2200) and how fast it bleeds energy.
>2500 limit
It works pretty much the same, but with lower acceleration.
To be honest, against EML it's pure luck because you either get sniped or manage to evade hard enough that the X-02 fucks up in one turn and it opens an opportunity to kill it. Against QAAM it handles pretty well, it has a lot of energy most of the time so you can evade it all day and getting the kill is pretty easy with HCAAs with how lazy the standard QAAM-22 is.

Man, Bulletproof Fuel Tanks are super comfy. 220 HP guarantees it'll take 4 Damage++ MSLs to bring down, which is insane in a Special Weapons off room. It's enough to tank an EML++ hit, two QAAMs, or a single HPAA strike (unless the QAAM/HPAA is packing SPW Damage++). I'm not good enough in a furball to get the most use out of another flight upgrade part, but I'm definitely trash enough to appreciately being able to keep flying after getting hit.

Forgot to come in here when I beat the campaign, a few days ago.

For those that care Project Wingman gives you all of the Ace Combat gameplay, with only a smattering of the vibes, whilst the game is impressive for a Kickstarter game, you really feel it's crowdsourced origins in places like the voice acting quality ranging massively in general quality and microphone quality, lack of cutscenes.

Though you still do get your wow moments, from Mission 7's usage of clouds to hide from rail guns, (especially in first person seeing the rain splatter across the windscreen) to the sheer usage of colour especially in the latter half of the game. I'd recommend it to someone for $5 but I think I'm being a bit too harsh. Just found the end boss to be so underwhelming as to dampen what was otherwise a fairly enjoyable game for the most part.

Wish I had Prez on every mission though.

And in that, especially with modern wars and the current proxy wars, the current mindset is to do anything and everything in the conventional sense, as Nukes may as well not matter or not even exist as once they are used, the entire board is set to zero anyway.
>>
>>557791038
Yeah it'd have to be something absolutely catastrophic for it to happen, especially to fire the first shot. And as much as nobody really wants to be the person who starts WW3, I wonder if anybody would want to be the one to end it, knowing the consequences of that action. Rather not find out either way though, I think about it the same way I think about what dying in a plane crash would be like. Just a morbid hypothetical.
>>557791178
That's more or less how I've always understood it. It's possible using one tactical nuke could end a war without nuclear retaliation, but that's a theory nobody sane wants to test.

Blowing up the Three Gorges Dam is definitely a good candidate. That immediately eliminates a significant amount of Chinese power generation, infrastructure, and population, and even more as a secondary effect. I'm sure you can imagine how dire things get for the rest of the nation when the main factories are flooded and the ports are underwater, so seaborne food and fuel imports cease completely. And when all the Great Leader and the Party really wanted was their power and lifestyle, it's not like they have much left to lose if any of them survive the flooding.

Chinese nukes getting launched also likely ends in all nukes getting launched just as a domino effect. To hit the US targets their flight path would go over Russia, and as little confidence I have in Russian equipment/command I still have to believe they can respond in kind to missile launches. Aa a baseline Cold War scientists calculated it would take roughly ~30 min from launch for a USSR nuke to hit its target in the US, so the Russkies have even less time to analyze Chinese flightpaths and determine if they're threats or not, and I'd be more than willing to believe Russia would launch their own missiles. The British and French also have to wrestle with the same calculus the moment they see Russian missiles in the air, and I'll assume the Norks aren't just going to sit around while China's busy gifting mushroom clouds. The US has a launch-on-warning policy so they're just a guaranteed player in this hypothetical.

Nuclear War A Scenario is a pretty good recent book about atomic doomsday, since the writer got to interview a lot of the old guard of nuclear policy/planning who as a generalization are now tired, scared old men who are afraid of their worst fears coming true. And OPpenheimer's posts on /k/ are a good read too if you feel like combing through the archives.
>>
>>557793690
Thanks for the reading anon, that book especially sounds really interesting. And horrifying. I take some solace knowing if a total nuclear war kicks off, I'll be atomized because I live close enough to an airbase.

I've always seen that as an idea that got hyped up to help get the idea of MAD across the common folk then it showed up in many a movies to remind you everyone dies together but never much actual merit to it.
Ok say China sends them up It only take a short while to know where they are going around the same amount of time ish it takes to get a retaliatory strike ready. So why would you dump your load if your not the target? Keeping a full stock of them will be a massive advantage in the weeks that follow and you gain nothing by firing them at targets that will already be nuked by someone else.

This is where the fuzziness and uncertainty come in. Through decades of gameplanning and exercises it's estimated that the US, even possessing the spookiest glowie assets, has a roughly 6 minute time frame to deliberate on launching nukes in the event of a Russian launch. This delay comes from the human element of different parts of the chain of command detecting, analyzing, and relaying info to the next rung up. Russian early warning systems are FAR less capable than the American ones, and given the past few years it's likely their chain of command is not as well oiled.

Then there's the messy human element of it all. If the Chairman calls the Tsar and pinky promises him that all the nukes being launched are meant for the POTUS, will the Tsar believe him? Will the Tsar trust that none of the retaliatory nukes the POTUS is sending are meant for him? If the Tsar panics since his clay is literally in the crossfire, will the Limeys and the Frogs stay calm when they've been dreading the big bad bear escalating things?

It's like a Mexican Standoff in a Spaghetti Western. Except infinitely worse and shittier because the fallout from these fuck fuck games could very well kill everyone in the town and not just the yokels waving their guns at each other. Nobody can un-cancel a launch, and once the first shot's fired all hell breaks loose.

Did anyone else find the way the planes moved different in 7 compared to the ps2 trilogy? In 7 the camera is completely fixed on the plane and it seems a bit stiff. In the older ones you could see the planes slightly moving up/down when controlling them and it looked more fluid. I hope the bring that back for 8.

I just find nuclear game theory/brinkmanship fun, if maybe morbid. The literature's a fascinating mix of DEEBLY CONCERNED scientists, agenda-pushing (both hyping up and downplaying the side effects of atomic war), and countless people spitballing "no, it would look like MY scenario!" with varying degrees of depth/credibility. Go take a look at the discourse on nuclear firestorms and whether or not they'd happen VS them being pinko lies trying to scare people. Almost turns into absurdist humor when taken from the angle that this was official discourse. Or how Reagan literally got so spooked by an ABC program on life after a nuclear war that it no-shit prompted him to work towards deescalating tensions with the soviets.

Plus if we're really dumb enough as a species to kill ourselves I'd rather it happen faster in a ball of fire than through decades of biosphere degradation or something equally lame/slow.

That just comes down to personal mindset kind of like when you put someone in your family into a rest home. You know they are going to die soon you don't think about but your mind is already preparing for it. When it happens your not hit as hard by it than compared to a sudden death. Same with nuclear war you grow up knowing it could happen most people expected it to happen and if it does happen you don't panic as much simply due to you expected it to happen your whole life.

I think canonically it would make sense for that fight to be the hardest, which makes Gryphus 1 is the most skilled protagonist. Sure they don't have single super-ace like Yellow 13, but Alect are not random mooks, they are THE elite fighter squadron of the region. And the Fenrir is a top tier superplane even without optical camo. Gryphus 1 shoots down all 5 of them in one engagement. None of the other MCs take on 5 superplanes at once, add in the fact that they are invisible and it's an unmatched feat.

Honestly even with a controller X is a fairly hard game. It has a stiff flight model, enemies are actually really good at notching your missiles, SAMs and AA guns fucking hurt on higher difficulties. It'll humble you real quick if you get cocky.

While reading the stats database there is a question I have.

>>
>>557868463

>>
I wonder if the Tanager was a modernised Iowa-class. I'd imagine it would have to be given it was the flagship.
>>
>>557872587
Judging by the model used in 4 it seems like the devs referenced a pre-modernization Iowa-class, but then again the Tomahawk and Harpoon launchers were probably too small to be worth modeling on a PS2 launch game.
>>
>>557874220
Ships in 4 are very low ploy models they don't have much detail to start with. You could check out the one in 5 it was better detailed.
>>
>>557688932
In a similar vein, I want to take on a proper air defense network. Most of the time we only fight SPAAGs and SHORAD missile systems. I want a proper SEAD/DEAD mission against a really dangerous system, picking apart the net by destroying radars and TELS. Radars switch on and off to hide from you, TELs pack up and run away when their radars are destroyed, real anti-SEAD tactics.
Faceless soldier kinda does this, but it's ruined for me by gameplay contrivances (hiding in the clouds from satellites), the missiles spawning from nowhere, and the enemies not being reactive to your actions.
>>
>>557879438
It could be a fun gimmick mission
>Fenrir is in the game her LSWM are at original power
>Its no longer a gimmick mission its a standard destruction level now.
>>
>>557878717
It looks like it's the exact same model they used for the Tanager, just with slight better texture work. There is also an Iowa-class in 6, but the pictures on the wiki suck and you can barely see the deck.
>>
>>557879438
Hunting down hidden radars would be pretty cool.
>>
>>557880352
It would be a mix of Magic Spear & Pipeline
>>
>>557826571
PS2 flight model is way more stiff than 6/7, not helped by the camera trailing so abruptly after each input.

GBP is useless in that mission far to many ground targets. Take dumb bomb or SFFS if you take agm missiles you'll run out long before you run out of targets. As for the AB just get in close and hold down the gun while dumping what missiles you have left into its main engines.
First time I did that mission was with F-18 railgun made the 2nd half of the mission very easy was also good for removing bombers faster and deleting AD tanks in one shot.

God, I just finished Ace Combat 7 and I'm not sure if something else is going on that's making me feel this way, but with it being my introduction to the franchise and loving my first playthrough this second one after now having played every game from Ace Combat 3 (and excluding 6) I feel absolutely ROTTEN about it.

Graphically, I think it looks incredible, the game has never looked better, the weather affects such as the sandstorms, clouds, thunder and harsh winds and lightning were all extremely cool additions, soundtrack as always is great, the dialogue though for some reason became white static for me this time around, with the campiness and heart I felt the first time around just feeling hollow and going nowhere.

It's weird as despite playing all the other games on ACE difficulty without much issue and feeling powerful, on hard alone in AC7, I just felt bitter at basically being in missile lock 90% of the game and having never seen so many standard missiles miss the gameplay loop felt more like
>MISSILE MISSILE MISSILE
>BEEP BEEP BEEP
> <<MISSED SHOT>> <<MISSED SHOT>>
>BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
>MISSILE MISSILE MISSILE
> <HIT> <MISSED>
>BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP

Failing on the final tunnel run 11 times was humiliating as well as I did it first try and felt such adrenaline I don't know how I've managed to fuck myself so badly on that.

Overall, I just feel empty, just wondering how I fumbled at the final hurdle after basically flying through the trilogy and PW so handily.
>>
>>557988452
This may be the most appropriate use of that reaction image I have ever seen, goddamn man. I still think 7 is an amazing game but one thing going through the rest of the series is kinda expose the flaws it does have. It's a game that has some of my favorite moments in the series while also having many things I hate immensely. I will say though, playing the older games and PW before 7 does kinda fuck with your muscle memory. PW especially has a much heavier flight model barring AoA shenanigans, so jumping from that to 7's flight model is whiplash. If you ever want to replay 7 again I'd recommend doing it before you play the older games. Storywise for my last playthrough I didn't pay super close attention to some cutscenes because I find them to be the worst part of the storytelling. There is good stuff in them but to me the most interesting storytelling is in the missions themselves.
>>
>>557988452
Now go play the DLC
>>
>>557991204
I think the heaviness threw me off the entire run, where there were shots were it's like a bit more yaw here or there would have made all the difference in a lot of the dogfights I found myself in, but in certain circumstances I felt like I was actively fighting with the planes rather than becoming one with them.

I will say, before I forget, The Chekov's gun of the satellite IFFs in the second mission only for them to be weaponised later against you losing all IFF data I remember being an extremely cool experience when I first played through the game
>>557991656
Doing a quick runback on ACE difficulty. Getting my S ranks and killing enemy aces, but I'd be more worried if I wasn't considering I'm using the DLC planes
>>
>>557992054
DLC was made with the understandning that when it came out everyone had already unlocked all the planes. DLC planes aren't super planes unless you got the Top Gun set they are just very fun additions. Its not that the DLC is hard its just super fun with any plane you take.
>>
>>557992946
It does earnestly niggle me though seeing planes like the Morgan and FALKEN get turned into DLC, I was happy to see the Wyvern pop out after the campaign's completion, but knowing what was just free in the PS2 era for playing well become some nickel and dime fest bothers me.
I will play the DLC missions though.

>Few more dashed and dotted lines along the Erusean border, one up against the border with the Gunther Peninsula and one in the north with San Salvacion
>None that correspond to where the Shilage Castle mission takes place in 7 (either Shilage/Voslage got turbo-mogged by perfidious, marauding Oseans so hard they lost their bid for independence or the one up against Gunther is meant to be them and they're still disputed)

Good. Wit was such an irritating shithead/dickrider that I'm 100% all for Total Voslagian Death at the hands of vengeful Eruseans. I hold no ill will towards old man Mihaly and his annoying physics breaks, but I will forever pray for Erusean success in taking that clay.

Also lol Erusea:
>monarchy fails so you become a republic
>republic fails to address the rising crisis so you become a fascist dictatorship
>fascist dictatorship gets fucked up by Jesus so hard that you retvrn to tradition and dig up what's left of the royal bloodline to become a monarchy once again
>monarchy gets corrupted by warhawks wanting to be big and stronk like the dictatorship days so you once again get coopted by the military
>piss off the neighbors and the good guys™ so hard you become a republic again

I'm liking WSO theory, now that Ace Combat has suddenly decided number 2s exist. (It's critical for the Top Gun aesthetic.)

The ultimate problem with WSO's as characters is that - unless you just want them to perform callouts - you want them to be meaningful characters so that people care about them, but you can't make them so impactful that players feel compelled to fly two seaters to avoid missing out. This already happened in PW, and it restricted the roster to low tier planes due to a lack of high tier twin seaters.
Personally I'd solve that by having the WSO fly their own aircraft when the player selects a single seater or have them aboard a support unit like the AWACS, so they still have a presence in the story even when benched.

>>558011589
Both the base game and the DLC for PW do have several missions that are tailor made for the Frogfoot at least. Also I kinda wish the Eagle in F59 was a Strike Eagle. They even acknowledge with Prez that she can fly on her own, but she likes to be Monarch's WSO. Of course mods fix this but if it really trips your tism not having a second seat modeled on your plane it sucks, does lead to the funny issue of Prez sitting in the middle of the Harrier's fuselage though, that's funny. I feel like Project Aces could figure out a good solution if they want to, I liked Prez and Eye-Tee a lot so I feel like a team with more budget could really make WSO characters into something even better. And then whenever Project Wingman Zero: The Oceanian War comes out(lol) whatever WSO that game has could take notes from Ace Combat. The between mission stuff in the carrier has me hopeful too, there's a lot of potential for fleshing out the characters and downtime is something we don't get a whole lot of in war games.
>>558017169
I don't know what I find funnier, the fact that half the countries have names that end in -ea or the fact that Sapin is Spain with two letters switched. There's also Delarus which might be the funniest one.

nta but San is a shortening of Santo, meaning saint. Salvacion is salvation. The issue is Santo is masculine while Salvacion is feminine. It should be Santa Salvacion
>>
>>558071641
Is there a masucline form of 'slavacion'? I imagine the devs just saw the names of places like San Francisco and just copied it without knowing the finer point of Spanish grammar. Actually kinda funny it stayed the same all this time because original Erusea was spelled Erusia.

I meant salvacion, dammit.

>>558075578

Not directly for the concept of salvation or act of being saved, it's strictly feminine. There is a masculine form of Savior, Salvador, but San Salvador is taken.

It's kinda funny how much Ace Combat I've seen since 8's announcement. I don't think this series has ever had this much recognition. All the old content creators got reactivated like sleeper agents and I've been recommended people with like 12 subs starting their playthrough of the game.

You literally need to log into an account to fly the damn thing.

Every fancy gizmo in the aircraft is handled by software (ALIS) that is restrict-able if the US deems it necessary (say, if they need to invade you as an excuse to cover up the Epstein files). The US Defense Logistics Agency can send over the air updates to your fleet to deregister all of your pilot's accounts, rendering it into a fancy showpiece eventually. It doesn't have a traditional "kill-switch", but it's more like the IT department deciding to lock every computer in the office.

Beyond that, you still have the traditional route of rendering the aircraft useless by just restricting parts anyway.

if Thomas can get his own train sim, why can't Jay Jay the jet plane get his own Ace Combat-like?
>>
>>558104375
Yea AC7's mouse control is extremely oldschool. As in it's like early flight sims when Mouse control was this weird new idea.
It's a "Chase the cursor" mouse control like you have by default on in War Thunder where you put the mouse to a point on the screen and the game tries to put the plane towards that spot or even a Virtual Joystick where center of screen is neutral and you are effectively moving the mouse in the circle to emulate a joystick input and holding a position until you move the mouse again.
No man you're 100% pushing scroll data as inputs which means you better get used to doing pull and place if you're wanting to turn fight.
>>
>>558121234
>It's NOT a "Chase the cursor" mouse control
God I need to wake the fuck up before posting

Like of all of the setups I found Chase the Cursor to work the best, although I admit the Virtual Stick idea might have worked better if I gave it more time as the UI for it in War Blunder was kinda ass and looked frankly like shit. At least Chase the Cursor had it being a small translucent ring to call out your aimpoint while Virtual Stick had a ring pretty much being as tall as your UI was and a very distinct white dot being your stick location. Frankly really distracting.
