That marketing/localization was so effecting that when ST decided to unify the canon; and just like Mexicans can't conceive the TC characters as not having their Spanish localized characteristics, a lot of older fans were put off by the changes ST imposed to canon that was a decade old at that point, I mean we're still talking about Sally to this day and that's because of how effective SoA's localization of Sonic was. Whether this is right or wrong to do to IPs is subjective, but you can't deny how effective it is.

That is how it should have stayed, Japan makes the shit and America sells and markets it. Sally is not effective localization, Sally is brand division that wouldn't have happened if SoA knew their place.

I think sthg has trouble recognizing that sometimes Sonic Team's authorial intent is just bad writing. You could argue that Sonic wanting to get caught by GUN doesn't make sense but that was literally always the case. You could argue that Sonic having no interest in marriage or children or intimacy makes him "Sub human" but this is simply the case. The thing you do not like about him is not only canon but it was canon during Yuji Naka's reign and Iizuka has never rocked the boat with Naka's tastes when it comes to character. Sonic was always a "gary stu". Every single time he failed has had a playground excuse baked into it from the moment it happened. He was never a struggling character, he was never a relatable character. EVery time you emotionally resonated with him was more than liekly the english dub misinterpreting a line .
