Gatekeeper is a cheerful but comically inept guardsmen with an interest in history and geography who left his family in the Empire because he's religious and wanted to serve the Church. Back home he has a twin brother who is his opposite and remained with his family to become an Imperial soldier.He's low tier for a Three Houses character but that level of depth is about average if not above average when it comes to Fateswakengage and the shittier end of pre-Awakening (ie FE6's cast or a bunch of Archanea characters I know you've never heard of) characters, some of which we have literally no information on like Dolph.He is a fraud though because his CYL support came from the novelty of not having a design. If he had a unique design there's a good chance he would be less popular because it removes that novelty. I'd say both are true, he's above average in terms of depth (actually has a backstory, has motivations, backstory and motivations provide insight into the central conflict ie some Imperials are also loyal to the Church which shows that Edelgard's country will not be fully behind her plans), but still has substantial meme backing. Definitely has more fans than random literal whos like Celine and Hortensia.

I really hope that IS at least puts out an explanation for why they’re making these decisions, even if the reason sucks. At least then we can have something more concrete on what’s going on.
