Here's how I feel about OCs. IIDW and Archie do it wrong. You shouldn't just add OCs just for the sake of it. An OC should only come into the story when they're serving a purpose that doesn't fit a canon character.If you need an uwu soft boy who is clumsy and worships Whisper then just make up a new character because that isn't Silver the Hedgehog. If you need a brainlet antihero who will run into a zombie horde without a solution then pick someone who isn't Shadow. If you need a cocky dude with attitude who has a redemption fetish make a new character because that isn't Sonic. Use those new characters to explain something about Sonic instead of adding random new character traits. OCs aren't automatically bad.
