First for janky zombie games made with SOVL.
Speaking of NMS, I'll never understand the obsession with million billion planet games.I would be ready to bet money that games like No Man's Sky, Starfield and whatever else would be way better if they just had a single solar system and put all the effort into making that as a interesting as possible.
>>557186619>I would be ready to bet money that games like No Man's Sky, Starfield and whatever else would be way better if they just had a single solar system and put all the effort into making that as a interesting as possible. It worked for Starbound.
>>557186619You only have to play Empyrion to understand how to make good procgen galaxies for a 3D game. Generate the nature, handcraft the POIs. A lot of POIs. On planet and in space.Empyrion originally had only a single hand-made system, the only procgen feature was procedural planet surfaces. Then a few linked systems, all still designed by human hands. Then a whole procedurally generated galaxy, with some hand-placed features like special star formations and important systems with unique stuff in them.
>>557186619>I'll never understand the obsession with million billion planet games.procedural generation meme
>>557188240Yeah it's just retards saying the darnest things.Like someone took a look at NMS planet seeds, saw they're stored as uint64, checked the max value for uint64.That's literally how the 18 quintillion planets meme was born.
>>557186520Oh, okay. Good, I really don't like games that bait you with zombies but then the baddies are actually humans.
>>557185421>>557186520Can you guys not try to politically bait the thread into a death spiral the moment it is made? Thanks!
>>557186619Rather a 300ft deep pool than a 300 mile radius puddle. What's the difference? It takes longer to go deeper than it does to stop at a point in the puddle do 1 of 5 things, then move onto the next. Subnautica is a great example of depth theory in video games, the whole world is actually tiny and can be traveled pretty quickly, but the actual depth of the game does a great job at tricking you that the map is actually bigger than it is.
>>557192812>Can you guys not try to politically bait the thread into a death spiral the moment it is made? Thanks! It's free bumps, I can't be asked to altab every 5 minutes to keep this niche general of the already niche dying imageboard alive
Ah, Earth Dancer! Your dance has brought me joy and happiness. In gratitude, allow me to bestow upon you this recipe.
>>557186619It works only if you have systems and trees that are involved enough to spur exploration. I think it was naive for NMS to think that the player's curiosity could stretch for that long? Eventually you're going to see the same stuff over and over again and that will or interest to explore dies if it isn't supported with finding resource deposits or progression reasons outside of exploring.
>>557193418Why couldn't you have just asked a question about a game or even shill a game you think is good? Though I will admit you won't win either way and people will accuse you of shilling but I'd rather have that than political fights.
>>557193679We need a White House Tower Defense game where you fight zombies off to defend the white house from a coup by brainwashed zombies.
>>557194161Wouldn't surprise me if there was an old flash game like that
Finally beat silksong. Started playing on release, and didn't finish until now.Game so long the 3rd act really felt like a sequel rather than part of the same game.
>>557195263>95%you didn't beat silksong.

I'm tired.
>>557196618I only got around 85% myself. I am saving the 100% run for when the DLC comes out since I think all I am missing are some items and the last stage of that stupid goddamned racing mission.
>>557197421Hate to break it to ya but if you haven't even obtained the in-game completion tracker you're missing quite a lot.
>>557198295I got all of the endings (minus the mushroom epilogue thing) and finished all of the character quests involving the characters that I care about.I honestly don't care at all about making the number go up just for the sake of it.
>>557195263>Finally beat silksong. Started playing on release, and didn't finishYeah same. I can't remember but I think it also took me two goes to beat Hollow Knight. I'll come back to it eventually
Speaking of silksong, I never got jailed so I never experienced the prison break sequence. Are there other such missables in the game?
>>557199001Except for the hunter's notes and mementos there's very little in this game that's just "making number go up for the sake of it". Every time I think I'm done the game throws a new interesting quest or item at me.That said I have no idea what the remaining 5% is, I haven't done any wiki digging yet.
trying to selfhost while your ISP is actively fucking you over is the most interesting emergent puzzle game that often costs less than buying something on steam
>slaying the spire>land a killing blow on a boss, that has enough reflect to also kill me>die>ok thats how that works, reflects take priority over turns ending/victory&death screens>let a boss land a "killing blow" on me, that i'll stop by reflecting enough damage to kill them firs->dieWHAT THE FUCK
>>557205492Reflect? You mean thorns?
>>557206537Yes.

>>557207967You getting hit by a 3x7 attack and thornsing them to 0 on the first blow doesn't interrupt the attack. Same goes for you, but it doesn't matter since you end up dead anyway.

Play Nimi's Garden. It's an unmitigated masterpiece. 1:1 quality with the basegame. 1:1.1 difficulty to the basegame. Basically starts from the-middle-of-world-2-difficulty
This is in my top 10 gaming experiences ever now. The dopamine rush I got when I solved the puzzle hit me like a truck and I teared up a little through sheer enjoyment.
Tried the Starship Troopers demo, was fun enough, seems like single-player Helldivers 2. Really wish the human AI wasn't completely pants-on-head retarded. This would sell 4x as many copies if it had multiplayer.
Darwin's Paradox demo dropped. A bit too many cinematics at the beginning, even for a cinematic platformer, but it still feels refreshing to play a more comical game in this genre. Only real issue is the Unreal Engine stuttering, hopefully that's addressed at launch
The shills were right, Mewgenics is actually pretty fun. I doubt I'll dump 1000 hours for the full uber platinum steak experience, but it was worth a pirate.
>>557225929>The shills were rightHow could they be? They had not played the game.
>>557227862something something broken clocks
This NMS expedition fucking blows solely because of this shitty goddamn planet. "Let's add waste hauling where you have to drive carefully or your cargo falls out!" Sure, fine, I get it, could be fun. "Let's put it on a mountainous barren shitheap planet with a billion fucking potholes and every destination is thousands of units away from each other, also the mapping waypoint quest is bugged so you're going to do this even more than we said so." FUCK. Almost lost my shit playing this expedition, it's so aggravating.

>>557260642oh i dont think i did that ending
>>557230557>NMS expeditionI haven't fully understood what those are, but people talk about them a lot. Are they separate from your game or is it just missions you can take on or something?
>>557263239They're basically community events where you play a curated section of the game (usually new to an update) and do a bunch of missions to complete it. You make a new save file and are restricted to what they want you to do. For example, since they added waste hauling this update your missions are all based around that + charting waypoints and scanning shit. Caveat is you can't fly your ship (literally won't let you repair it or buy one of an NPC) and you're stuck to a single planet. Problem is picrel, terrain is fucking horseshit and the hauler is slow and likes to get stuck in holes. Also the waste has physics so it can (and will) get launched from your flatbed.
>>557251081God damn it I missed shakra. Thanks for letting me know.
>>557263639Damn, then I'm surprised why (seemingly) these generate so much hype.I thought the whole appeal of the game was to go anywhere do anything. I guess I understand why it's harder to integrate these as missions in the main game since it would be impossible to balance, but still
>>557264562I suppose people see them more as a momentary departure from having total freedom, or at least I see them that way. At the very least completing them gives you rewards you can use across all save files (and the file you use gets converted to a normal save after beating it)
>>557257137You are overly optimistic about NPCs.

I'm getting the sneaking suspicion I'm approaching the point where I'll burn out and quit. The first boss is kicking my ass from turn 1. But I can do most of the missions leading up to this with few problems and only the occasional death. So What this tells me is that I need to grind out resources until I can equip a team to kill this guy and I'm not sure if that sounds fun to me if I'm being honest.

>had to delete a lot of files to make room on C: because Windows keep trying to install upgrades but never delete themThere go my collection of old indie games...
im losing my minddoes solving this level require anything outside the actual level? does pushing the level actually accomplish anything?
>>557353662Those games could disappear from the internet someday anon. Don't get rid of them.
>>557351701Like anon said, it's not that similar. I'd say it's more like if Darkest Dungeon was a grid tactics game. Cats get a single run before they retire or die, so you're constantly using new units. There's super boss fights where you can use them a second time, but that's it. Even items get "worn out" and are likely to break after a few runs so you're churning through those too. Instead of upgrading your hamlet you're upgrading your house and essentially your gene pool. The tactics aspect is pretty solid so far, you get a bunch of different collars aka classes to augment your cats, but again there's a big random component in what you start out with until you breed for stuff. The breeding aspect is kinda whatever honestly, you need to get fresh blood to avoid inbreeding and can fish for certain mutations but that's about the extent of it. My save is at 23% completion so there's probably plenty more I haven't seen, but the basic loop is that.
>>557351701Oh yeah, also something that annoyed me with BoI too, there's numbers and info that you don't always see. Not as big of a deal in a 2D shooter like BoI, super frustrating in a tactics game where at certain points you're potentially one wrong move from losing a run because you picked an option in an event that ruins a build. Or just the fact that certain enemies have abilities that flat out aren't stated.

>>557390889Not true, it is possible to restart your noggin past 25, but it may require unorthodox methodology that border on mysticism and most likely will cause total ego death as its like using restore window to an earlier version when your personality mostly develloped itself on later versions. So you get this surreal 3rd viewpoint of yourself where you see everything you did and who you were with an odd detachment, as you feel it as someone genuinely distinct from the current interpretation, because you are now concious from the earliest possible point of view. Kind of like a ship of theseus where the ship become aware of itself, both the original and modified version at the same time, because it realize it is the concept of the ship itself rather than merely a subsequent iteration of it.With that said, most peoples sadly cant handle it

What are the essential things I should take note of in BoH?
>>557404226I'm playing the game with a paper notebook and gotten to the point where I'm pretty much on track to finishing the game as soon as I get back into it.I'd say the most important thing is to note which book gives which memory and which aspects those memories give. I've noted it down for every single book I've read, but looking back you can probably skip all the duplicates (and there are a lot of duplicates).Next I've written down the few crafting-exclusive memories that I've found. With their aspects, their name, the skill that produces them and the crafting requirement and sometimes a reminder how I've gotten the requirement.Lastly I've noted down a few crafting recipes that I commonly use, mostly inks, and the "pathways" how I can make them from scratch. Also sometimes books contain hints on what you can craft with the skill that they give you, which can be more or less cryptic. I usually note that down too just in case it comes up later.Lastly I also have a page where I noted down all the Barons and Librarians in order for the staircase busts, but that's completely optional. Also have a miscellaneous section where I just lay out some todos and stuff. In terms of essential things you would probably be fine with just book-memories. Everything else is to taste. As you'll play the game you'll get a better feel of what kind of notes might be useful to you.

I like Cairn, but holy fuck is half the game fighting the fucking climbing aid that struggle to place the limbs properly and has hardly any logic as to which limb moves next.>On a cliffface where I need to displace left arm to get a better grip to move on>Game absolutely refuse to use it and instead default to any other limb>Try to place it down on an obvious ledge>Game simply refuse and stick the feet or hand onto the flat, gripless surface right beside the perfectly fine and well place ledgeOn and on and on, its incredibly aggravating. And I have a question: at the cliff village, is the only way up the sheer cliffface over the village or is there another path within the walls? Just want to know before I commit to something that end up just being a challenge route.

>>557406578When Baba stares into the Void long enough, the Stranger staring back looks a lot like Baba, strangely.
>>557405890If you haven't already I would suggest you turn on the hold feedback option to tell whether the spot you just placed your foot is actually a grip spot, since the visuals can be misleading. Something that I also didn't realize until almost the end of the game is if you are not happy with a limb placement you can hit B to switch back to the limb and try again.
>>557405890Interesting, I don't think I've had too many problems with that, mostly just the auto-limb selection messing up, especially in clutch situations where you have to move on asap and then one limb slips and it jumps to controlling the limb that just slipped instead of the on you were just controlling and so on.Though I think there is some subjective bias involved here. This is one of those QoL features that you only notice when it DOESN'T work. Like I was surprised how well it could select the correct limb 8-9/10 cases, but most of the time you don't even pay attention to that, because you're focused on climbing and it's only when it keeps selecting the wrong one that it sticks out to you.>>557406949>B to switch back to the limb and try againdamn, that's useful, I've always fiddled with the manual selection to reselect the limb

I don't know what I'm doing. The game didn't explain what all the numbers/icons on each card means. Or if looted items go to the bag or are turned into supplies. Played 6 hours of Disco Elysium and it's kinda...okay?I expected a lot more from all the praise. Very wordy. I am pissed off most by the narrator voice skipping the *does thing* text so I still haver to keep an eye on the text anyway and I read double the speed and skip half of it.Great art for sure but I got the feeling this got so much praise for doing a few "okay here please pic your politics" choices at the early game and then yelling it back at you like yes thank you I did indeed pick those options. Do you expect me to clap like a sealion for a fish?Laughed a few times and pic related had me laughing harder with each choice I read. Very skilled comedic writing that makes use of the games framework.
>>557449427Keep in mind the game is made by communists so obviously if you don't pick their side and you just play as a regular person, it will still yell at you for your choices. That being said I've heard mainly nothing but good things about the game, the fact it was made by Communists who even allow you to go against them and they even let you go full ebil fashy-washy is commendable.
>>557446607I got i for 5 bucks so it's no big harm done but man was it blatantly unfinished. As you get all your moves the game just ends instead of giving you real parcours making tight use of the skills. And no, the time trials are just routing and then become piss easy.I am extra pissed about this because I played GRIME right before which I went from hating its guts to really loving it towards the end because of how much the devs learned and grown throughout the dev process and really made fantastic courses making full use of every little move you get.>me softlocking myself because I really couldn't find the weapon throw while exploring
>>557449813You.You will be first in line to grind into pigsfeed. And I already got the communist skill thought from my choices.I went with 5 int 5 psyche and specialization into Drama. The lie detection ticked of a few times already so I am liking that. Even made the dicemaker at the window seem like a mythical being incapable of lies and deceit.
>>557449427>I expected a lot more from all the praiseKek, for me it was the exact opposite. I fell for people like >>557449813 and more extreme versions of this, saying it's some obnoxious politics game that insists upon itself etc etc and then I had the same "that's it?" reaction when I saw what the politics are actually like. The praise comes from a few places, the game is very well written especially considering how low the standard for writing is for games to begin with, compared to other media and I don't just mean how wordy it is but also the world, the characters, the quest. They often have a certain subtlety that so many games lack. Then the whole your skills talking to you thing is quite unique and it does some interesting things with it that I won't spoil. Also I can't put it into words but it's just impressive how cool some of the more important interrogations feel. You're just picking dialogue options but it real feels like a battle of whits, where you let them talk themselves into a web of lies before revealing the piece of evidence they didn't know you had. I know some of it is smoke and mirrors, but it still feels great, even on replay.Just go with the flow, I'm sure you'll find plenty of things to enjoy about this game.
>>557449427>Very wordy.Kind of the point innit
>>557449427If you're fine with the humor, then the high points are the genuine humanity against misery slav melange that arise from the little people living their lives in Revachol. The game contains politics and anger against the system but it's merely one element of the game, not a tract. Even for communism. Even Measurehead is more than a caricature.
>>557449427>Very wordyOh boy, wait till you play Bood of Hours.
The Crossworlds are looking a bit different today.
>>557448878Pandemonium 2!
>>557451935>The game contains politics and anger against the system but it's merely one element of the game, not a tractIn fact I would argue one of its messages is that hyperfixating on politics and putting it over interpersonal relationships will make you miserable.
>>557449427The quality of the writing is superb and it manages to make you really feel for morally gray characters in ways that awarded novelists dream of.Saying it's "very wordy" is a bit of a reduction on the point.
>>557449427For me it's how it somehow manages to make all the wacky shit coexist with the serious murder investigation and the soul crushing dread hanging over the world and somehow neither detracts from the other. In the hands of a less skilled writer the tone would just come off as lol so random humor constantly undercutting a serious story, but somehow it manages to not be that.
>>557449427you're looking at it the wrong way, your character isn't seriously committed to any of the political choices you're making, when he blurts them out stupidly in the middle of a conversation, thats exactly what its supposed to be.
>>557460068>In the hands of a less skilled writer the tone would just come off as lol so random humor constantly undercutting a serious storyThis is my problem with menace. The aesthetic and atmosphere is pure serious, grim sci fi, but every five seconds the raiders and squad commanders are telling me, the player, to breathe manually or some shit like it's some shitty comedy webcomic from the 2000's.The complete 180 from the trailers to the gameplay dialogue is one of the worst mismatches in advertising for a video game I've ever seen.

>>557186619>I'll never understand the obsession with million billion planet games. In the case of NMS, it was (deceptive) Marketing. Hello Games basically marketed the game as a "you can do anything" game. Specially through lying by obmission, or failing to deny. Whenever someone asked: "Is it possible to do X/Y/Z" they never ever said: "No that's not in / no plans to do that" they, or rather: Sean acted like it COULD be in the game, without directly confirming it. So it was that combo of never denying any potential feature that made people imagine their favourite space game, ever (some people imagined Eve online, some people imagined freelancer, some people imagined X-wing vs Tie-fighter, some people imagined star trek etc,) COMBINED with the fact that he was gushing about "billions of unique planets, with infinite possibilities" was just extra fuel on the fire and not the main thing that got people so mega excited. (But people were excited about it). Of course any nerd at the time who knew about procedural generation was like: "Yeah, pass on a billion planets, actually". Anyone who has played Todd Howards dumbass radiant quests knows that 20 hand designed square meters absolutely fucking mogs 20 million procedurally generated square meters. There's more ways to sort a deck of cards than atoms in the observable universe or something like that. Or at least close to it. You will never ever see a deck of cards shuffled the same way. But you wouldn't be entertained by the uniqueness of arrangement. Nobody goes: "HOLY SHIT! A KING FOLLOWED BY A NINE FOLLOWED BY A SEVEN ARE YOU KIDDING ME???" Same With NMS: Oh, this planet has red grass, green sky, purple water, that's crazy the last planet had blue grass, pink sky and orange water! It will start looking the same to you. Because it's not a billion unique experiences, it's a billion arrangement of 20 or so options.
>>557449813I always found it ironic that there finally a piece of fiction that was made by communists, for communists, that also criticizes communists but the people who scream about media literacy never picked up on that and instead say it isn't a communist game because it criticizes communism, which is "not communism" to them. While at the same, not only is the sub-text of the whole game flying over these people's heads, but that the people who made it only feel safe criticizing communism under a capitalist system.
>>557467629They don't transition them into goblins, its just in Dwarf Fort the most diverse faction is the irredeemably evil faction that kidnaps children and tortures people for fun. Not that I think actual leftoids do that, but it seems to sail over their heads and they almost never have any sort of problem or complaint about it because they are too busy jerking off at how "commune focused" Dwarf Fort is because none of the dwarves are paid.
>>557473432There's a piece of USSR Sci-FI called Red Star that has been translated into English that also criticizes USSR Communism very, very, very carefully by comparing it to an "ideal" Communism that the Martians have that brings the two sides into conflict. If you are just reading it as a story, you'll miss it, but the author obviously had issues with the current system but was also afraid to speak too loudly about them for fear of being disappeared. It's a good book.

Basically the setting is literally just your average post-soviet dystopia where everyone is desillusioned and opportunists try to point fingers with no one genuinely bothering to provide a viable solution. Kind of make sense it came from Estonia. Like maybe theyre commies but they're slavic, self-aware post-soviet commies who due to their age saw the urss death throes, collapse and subsequent economic situation play out in real time. The point being that maybe they're commies, they arent the brand of commies we get in the west which tend to be absolute jackasses who accept everything at face value if it condone their biases and legitimize their shallow pathological altruistism.

I've played Veritus, the sequel of Prodigal and I'm quite disappointed. The story is a complete mess and even after reading and rereading each lore book and dialogues, I still needed external sources to understand what's going on. The gameplay feels like a step down from Prodigal which was simple but effective and fully utilized, while I did like some of the story telling aspect, it feels like half of the story is easily missable and the entire story relies on you having finished the Prodigal post game, which is insanely well hidden and cryptic, the crafting system is gimmicky, unexplained and punishes you very severely for not understanding it. The game starts dark and bleak and just never really evolved, sometimes it's a tiny bit lighter, sometimes it's a bit darker. It doesn't really have the same npc dynamic as the previous Colorgrave games, which was part of what made them unique. And the game is really, really short and lacks replayability. I've finished it 3 times in 10 hours, it felt shorter than the post-game dungeons of Prodigal. It's not a bad game and it has some interesting aspect, but it's not a very good game either. It's basically what the price says, a dlc adventure for Prodigal. It's half the price and half the length. That is to say, play Prodigal and Curse Crackers instead. They're great.

Speaking of Xcom: I love Xcom 2s feature of: "Add custom characters to a pool". Really the best way to play is ironman mode, and on top of that customizing your soldiers. Don't care if you turn them into your buddies, family guy characters, name them after dinosaurs, But the number one rule is: You take a soldier out on the field, he's gotta have a custom name. It's one thing when Jane Smith dies. Who cares. But your purple haired Motoko Kusanagi dies? You want some alien revenge.
>>557535703>Not what I asked.A non autistic person would have inferred that my statement regarding the graphics, means that I didn't play it.But do keep working on your communications skills anon. >>557537114>You can name squaddies in Menance. Which is funny because they tend to die a lot.I mean not that different from squaddies in XCOM. I eventually ran out of names and decided a squaddie "earns" a name when he earns a class.
>>557537269Bad luck sees you instantly losing more men in a single attack in menace than you would in an entire mission in xcom.
>>557537269In Menace you can have up to 8 squaddies per squad, and they act as a kind of "healt" for a squad. So they are expected to die a lot and very easily if you don't know the game.

>>557532782I'm enjoying it a lot, early on I didn't really enjoy the demo because you just don't have any options. Once you get some gear/promotions unlocked it becomes 10x more fun. The gearing is probably one of the best I've seen in these types of games, love the optimal range stuff on bullet weapons (sadly laser weapons later on seem to ignore that and just obliterate everything, but at least they don't get ammo bonuses and need manual "reloads" via heat venting) and the armor pen/shred is far more in depth.
>>557535136I would say it has just as much if not more RNG bullshit, but it gives the player far more tools to deal with them, like suppression, concealment, smokes, and explosive vehicle plates.Still feels really fucking bad when a lucky artillery/mortal crit pens you offscreen for daring to have an enemy in vision and instantly disables your elite mech for the rest of the mission.

So I'm just gonna get a new one either way, but will probably take a look at this one later. I haven't considered that it might just be a problem that's resolvable with some cleaning, but also mouse switches aren't that expensive so maybe I'll just solder a new one in. Hot take, the meat circus in Psychonauts 1 is good actually. Except for the escort segment, there's no redeeming that, but it's still better than the fucking ball race.
Originally, there was going to be an 8th Lord of the Void in Soulstone Survivors. And there was evidence that it was going to be "Underson, the Bone Tyrant", based on data on his Void Essence mined from older versions from the game. His Void Essence has since been removed from the game and the 8th boss never made it. The silhouette from the original roadmap looked quite generic and didn't feel like it would add enough flavor.Maybe it'll make more sense to redesign and introduce him as a Titan Hunt boss, with another set of powers to make crazy builds.

>>557822131Acfag here. If you plan on actually playing the earlier games the general consensus is to just play the holy trinity (4/5/0). They're the richest and most relevant ones in terms of story (they're not really required to play 7, but you'll catch more than a couple references when doing so. Also, Belkan memery) and have a fairly decent flight model.Air combat and AC2 are mostly skippable on account of being pretty meh and the story being even more eh. 2 also got re-released as assault horizon legacy, so go emulate that instead.3 is either the greatest story ever told or anime shit, depending on who you ask. It's set in the future and is liable to being retconned any day now. Just get the translated jp version from the general, the international one has no story and like half the missions. It also gets a couple of minor references in 7.6 is probably the best gameplay wise, story is meh and it still cannot be emulated properly in the year of our lord 2007+19 and requires you to watch cutscenes on youtube.PSP games are pretty meh and might as well not even be canon.Joint Assault is set in the real world, so whatever. So is Assault Horizon. Do not play Assault Horizon. We do not talk about that game.Infinity is lost media on account of the servers being kill and much like other non-strangereal titles it isn't really that relevant.Tl;dr play 4/5/0 and maybe jp 3 to have most of the background for 7 and presumably 8.

>>557822131Seconding >>557823036. Zero is generally regarded as the high point of the series. It's also the first chronologically but there isn't an overarching story between games so that's not relevant. The reason to start with Zero is that it's shorter, gives a nice sample of what the series has to offer. After that you can go for 4 & 5 if you want more PS2, or 7 if you want something more modern. 7 is a fine place to start, each entry is its own thing, but you have to bear in mind that 7 has the worst story and writing of the series, just enjoy the gameplay and look at the pretty clouds.>Acfag>Doesn't even mention X.You are no buddy of mine. X gets me vote for best overall game in the series. The level of control and impactfof your decisions on how the campaign progresses are unmatched in anything else I've played. Want to beeline directly to the boss mission? You can. Want to methodically secure every objective? You can but the order you do things is going to affect future circumstances. 2-3 variants of each mission with additional sub-variants depending on which previous missions you selected. It's the kind of depth of interactivity which games train you not to expect because you are usually on rails.
>>557842639Second part meant for >>557839459>>557842094>playing 7 it felt like I just didn't feel the weight of a lot of the stuff that was happeningEven having played the previous game sit felt like that because the writer is a hack who did not care to fix his work when the game was violently restructured during development. >miss out on some of the weight of the events because the audience can't relate>run into unbelievable writing 7 proves you can do both by basing your fictional conflict on a misunderstanding of real world issues which do not even apply to the fictional countries they are set in. The gameplay is pretty good though, I think it has the best ground-pounding in the series.
I did it bros. This game is going to be fucking massive.
>>557842094>I just didn't feel the weight of a lot of the stuff that was happeningLong story short: bad guys from 4 get uppity (again) and declare war on not-USA. Turns out they were actually being mostly manipulated by those sneaky Belkans (again, though it wasn't Erusea the last time they did), the bad guys from Zero and 5. The DLCs (widely credited as being the best missions ever in the entire franchise) feature one of 3's corpos. The main bad guy was the former captain of a shit you sink in 4, but that's just a minor callback for fans.>>557842639>Doesn't even mention X.I did, under PSP games. I dunno, it never clicked for me. And like I said, it's sorta like 6 in that it doesn't get referenced anywhere else so unless you plan on fully immersing yourself in the franchise, might as well skip them. The trinity games are the only ones that are "required" for 7's background.>start with ZeroEh. With Zero arguably being the best of the trilogy, I'd go with release order. You do want to play 4 anyway for erusean lore and doing so after Zero is a chore.

>>557944982What's that little arrow on RIGHT?

Playing this game is like having one of those 3rd grade magicians do the "Is this your card?" trick over and over but instead of a card it is one of 4 political spectrum choices it makes you do to and then present you the choice you had to make back to you.I am also not a fan of time as mechanic but it has been very lax so far so I can manage. What I hate are the dice rolls. They just make me fail things I am specced for or win checks I have no deal winning. Both just lead to repeated reloading because devs can never go all the way and make you only have 1 save file they force save over the moment you do a roll.
>>557952078I never got that what in the shitfuck is thisis that actually the inside of the container
>>557952078Failure is often just as if not more entertaining than success in that though.
>>557450930>Then the whole your skills talking to you thing is quite unique and it does some interesting things with it that I won't spoil.Yeah it's done great. Both the unique art and top (but too slow for me reading speed) voiceacting adds a lot to the well executed concept.I like that my Dramamaxing has it calling me things like Sire or My Liege now at +16 Drama.
>>557952225Yeah inside is an impossible rich guy. Got in with a 3% roll hitting on first try. He talks about being rich and you can get financial advice from him with 2 rolls. I picked the failed call in rpg idea and he shut that down. Other choice disappeared after. For a bit I thought my money problems were solved because of the GUI element but it turns gradually back normal when you move away.
>>557952078Yeah I'm with >>557952236 This was one of the few games where I was never tempted to savescum, because many of the failures were equally as interesting as the success. And as frustrating as failing a 97% roll is, it was equally as exhilarating to succeed on a 3% one
>>557936541So I've looked into this game and I've learned that I'd need to play through it at least twice, I'm not sure it's for me

Would be cool to have a save function work in dialogue because sometimes rolls are the end of long strings.I avoided the vormit check on the corpse for the whole first day and only in the evening saw that I need to fail it to get the drugs quest to look at it.

>>557952078>he savescums in DElol, you're missing out. Like anon said, there's a ton of checks where the failure is a better outcome. They go out of their way to show you this in the beginning by practically forcing two on you, passing the check to flirt with Klaasje gets you some flat dialogue while failing to flirt is comedic and gets her to laugh and open up to you. Yes, later on that gets you a penalty, but nobody cares by that point and I don't think anyone who knows both outcomes would take the former. There's also trying to run away from Garte when he asks you to pay. Success means you just run out of the building and he's angry at you. Failure means you crash into Lena and Garte takes pity on how pathetic you are, lowering your bill even lower. Like half the red checks in the game are like that, checks in the game are about doing what the skill represents, which isn't always a good thing.
>>557962621Anon that's just your stats being shit to not alarm you of the possible outcomes. You know the core system and trait of the entire game?
>>557962621>he savescums in DENTA but I had to restart with at least 1 point in PHYS because my detective kept dying in the hotel room.Should probably kept playing as I just met Kim. But other games have priority.

>>557956765>I don't agree and I see it as gameplay time bloatingI hate the phrase "you're playing the game wrong" because death of the author, subjective experiences etc etc, but I feel it gets very close to applying here.I felt this game was most enjoyable when I dropped my preconceptions about what I know about games and immersed myself into the character. Sometimes there are dialogue options you don't want to take or quests you want to ignore. And rolling with the punches of failed checks is a lot of fun.Hell, have you ever played an RPG with your friends? Salvaging a string of shit roll can be the most fun sometimes.>>557962621I feel like both of those checks you mentioned also at suggest that maybe sometimes not picking a dialogue option at all could be the best play.>>557965319I mean is it really save-scumming if you die?
>>557964040Anon you get the worse outcome by passing the check. If your stats were worse you're more likely to get the better outcome. Your stats being shit is actively beneficial in certain situations, there's even a few where them being high is detrimental. Like high drama will give you options to lie for absolutely no reason, including one where I think it forces you to. High logic makes it harder for you to teleport because you know that's not possible.

I like rolling the odds and seeing what options have to offer even if I am picking a different one because I will likely never play a 2nd time. Kinda timeline hopper style? I would max gambling if that was a stat, it's only a minor part of the vices. You just need a 6 6 for a guaranteed check anyway and the game has quickload and quicksave keys. Come on.
>>558087073The game isn't so linear that you'll be able to see everything just by reloading checks. Sometimes there's things that happen which look really bad but can lead to great things later down the line, and vice versa.

Fine, I'll finally start another run.Messed with the settings a bit and I think I got one that gives me pretty decently sized oceans to make use of the new boats.Playing with a few house rules like not allowing myself to cross large bodies of water without a boat or raft, so for now I'm actually "stuck" on a small-ish island with what seems to be a bigger continent very close to the north and vast ocean in all other directions.First order of business is to set up a camp from which to explore for a place for my first base. Since the island isn't too big I honestly don't even think it matters much where I build though.I might mess with the downscaling settings for my VS screenshots a little, they still look a little ass I think
>>558172037Explored most of the island. Another house rule I decided on is to play and navigate without the map as much as possible.Still using it to mark resources I'll need for later and also gonna use it for prospecting later on, because otherwise it would just be a pain in the ass, but I already feel like I got a much better grasp of my surroundings just by having to rely on landmarks and the sun to fin my way around. Also I found a nice spot to settle but there is a trader outpost right next to it and I'm not sure if that will disturb my idyllic solitude.
