boomer hereold mmos were fun because they existed back when online communication was new and exciting, so the sole factor of just talking to a nigga online was cool and novel. even shit like AIM was so cool back in the day. talking with your friends after school over the internet was crazy cool and new and fresh and exciting. now imagine taking all that excitement and funneling it into a virtual world where you can play with your friends and do stuff. it was the shit.nowadays, that novelty's been gone and we all kind of take online communication for granted. some of us may even despise it if we have jobs that bother us via emails/texts about shit when we're off the clock. it's not special anymore. it's not new or exciting. it's just a part of life. the grind that those old games had was kind of the cohesion that held communities together in certain cases. grindier kMMOs for example, where the grind was the end all be all, had players forming sort of ... trauma bonds around how bad the grind was, or they'd take breaks from the grind in town and just talk, so you'd have little communities like henehoes and shit. but nowadays when you're tired of grinding, you just log out and hit up your existing friendgroup on discord. "classic" servers try to rekindle that old excitement, but it'll never truly be the same. there's a reason these classic experiences are like 85% nostalgiafags with barely any actual new players who find the old gameplay loops exciting. that shit was objectively bad gameplay, but the gameplay wasn't the main gimmick. the gimmick was that you could play with others online. and now that nobody cares about that anymore like they used to, the mmo genre is falling apart.
