It's also useful as a pseudo counter for really aggressive monsters. As soon as their attack hits your shield that's the confirmation to guard poke. It doesn't do a ton of damage but when you're countering like this constantly it adds up. You can even sidestep out of guard poke for positioning. It's all about guard poke which is why they added a proper counter later on to effectively do the same thing. You press attack while guarding to guard poke. Remember to use your brain and think out problems yourself

I just noticed ichinose has basically banned pink rathian and azure rathalos from portable games. They haven't been in a portable game since FU. They aren't in P3rd, GU, or Rise. They brought back plesioth but not green plesi, narga but not green narga, khezu but not red khezu, diablos but not black diablos, etc. It's clear they only want subspecies if they're noticably different. Meanwhile these subspecies are still present in mainline games even up to present day (black diablos, pinkian/azurelos in world) but it makes sense for mainline because subspecies add to immersion and the environment which is what mainline focuses on. Basically if you hate subspecies fluff you're way worse off if you play mainline

The "sea" segment between Harth and Cheeko Sands in 4U was actually just a tiny island hop from the central Volcanic region to the archipelago below it, if you look at the map (in a boat disguised as a whale / Arluq) and still had raging storm conditions and got attacked by a pissed off Gore Magala. The only actual sea monsters we know of otherwise are the Arluq (carnivorous whales), Monk Snails (picrel, titan-sized seaslugs) and migratory Zorah Magdaros + Dire Miralis; which puts the scope of the oceans into perspective.The deserts are the next best thing, since they also take up a huge area of the world, between Old Desert / Desert in the South West and the Mountain-Desert south of Pokke in the North East, they take up like 60%+ of the continent + however much new desert there is between the Tower and the Forbidden Lands in Wilds.tl;dr capcom aren't afraid of sea monsters, it's that the hunters are afraid of sea monsters

It works for pretty much every effect you can see in-game but it requires a bit more trial and error in the training area to get it working to your liking
