Cold Steel III chapter III: finishedMy thoughts?What an amazing chapter!I really didn't like the annexed Crossbell in chapter II too much, and with Alisa and Machias, two of my least favorite OG class VII members joined the party to make matters worse.But now? Lamare is an awesome region; it looks beautiful with its beaches and mountainous valleys, and we actually got to spend three days here instead of two. We experienced Ordis and Raquel at day and night, visited the Summer Festival, reunited with Jusis and Gaius (my favorite male OG class VII members!), finally fought Bardias and moved along with the plot.The Bryonia Island visit and our reunion with the Spirit Shrines was an amazing event, and the conquest of Juno Naval Fortress was a really nice callback to the civil war. Easily my favorite chapter finale in this game so far. Stopped playing the series after Reverie due to getting burned out on the series in general. Just found Reverie still installed on my computer and booted it up for the hell of it. Cleared the entire game, full AP, all items/equipment, all lv 250 fully geared out characters, but apparently forgot to do the last 4 daydreams. Going through them now and MAN, I didn't expect this to feel so nostalgic. I will say this about CS and Kiseki as a whole, it is very good at building cozy atmosphere that makes you want to stay in the world for as long as possible. This is why even haters stick with the games, because even though the overarching story and dialogue can be really fucking gay and annoying sometimes, the games themselves are so damn comfortable to play.

I tried YS I. The bump combat is broken. You can either rape or get raped in corners. It can be to your advantage to just lock a guy in a corner and hit him a dozen times, but it can very easily happen to you, especially with that snake boss thing. It's also a 'where the fuck do I go' kinda game, which I don't mind necessarily, but that hidden door shit in the shrine was impossible to see even when I had that mask on the entire time. I don't know if the brightness from the remake was fucked or what, but I had to google where the door even was when I had been looking at it for 10 minutes. Does this series get good? I don't even see what the appeal would have been 40 years ago when shit like zelda and final fantasy came out around the same time.

Regarding the limited reset by agnes, it implies that it goes back just under a year but agnes is erased from the timeline. By that nature, does that not imply the timeline will be different due to agnes not existing. They empathised on Gramheart helping save Liberl so hard that I think they are gonna have Liberl be an Erebonian region in cycle 12,000 since Gramheart will no longer have motivation to help Liberl because Agnes will have never been born. I'd imagine Rocksmith will have continued being president in that case

These games really work best when they're centered around the conflict of whatever nation they're taking place in instead of Enforcers doing vague experiments. But the plot seems to be picking up with this chapter, and I'm looking forward to Heimdallr and the unveiling of Osborne's machinations. Despite my gripes, CSIII still delivers when it needs to, specifically where Rean and his new students are concerned.
