The thing to note with Attack up and damage up - bonuses of the same kind are stacked additively. But bonuses of different types are added multiplicatively. e.g.

I really enjoyed the plot in this last update actually - it hit a lot of good emotional beats, it kept up a lot of the ongoing story while leaving hints to stuff (Akashi's boss, Polter getting mind-fucked, the WHALE, etc.), it pointed a couple of fingers towards cancel culture and the deterioration of trust in society, and frankly it did a much better job of using Akashi to discuss "Gluttony" than the original P5 ever did.
And it had a fun cliffhanger too!

I won't deny I liked the last update. Akashi's personal history was interesting and I think Riko's affection for her teacher is really cute. But it just dragged on and on and on. Katayama's plight and Akashi's whole energy draining thing was stretched out over several months, and the prolonged melodrama was just not for me.

You could start global at any time, its on the valentine/chinese new year event patch, there are some free goodies and the first three big story chapters have concluded so there is plenty to do.
Your second option is to start on the Taiwan (or Korean) version which are one week behind the Chinese version and a year ahead of global. Tw has a great manual translator working on the english translation and the third palace and onwards minus some sidequests are fully translated. Machine translations for the rest. That version has no censorship, far more free goodies, soft pity on all banners, no standard jail, far cheaper prices and regular super re-run banners with up to three characters of your choice and a beginner banner with three more. Their 2nd anniversary is in around two months and the previous gave away multiple free limited characters and a mountain of mats, exp and pulls. The playerbase is much smaller however. They just concluded the fourth story chapter. Its up to you what you prefer.

Anyway, the benefit for global is you also generally know what’s going to happen in the future, where with the other ones you’re going in blind. It lets you plan out what you want, so if you are a spender (not that you need to be - it’s pretty chill to go free-to-play in either version) you’re less likely to have to emergency spend to get things.
In terms of opportunity RN globals units are probably a bit better - you can get the one that’s out now and then the upcoming unit right after and they pair together and you’ll have a strong team out the gate. CN/TW has less of that - the current unit kinda relies on past ones to be really good, but the upcoming one as far as I know works fine by herself.
