They even have a similar aesthetic.-Overall interior environments just feel like they placed assets at random, really feeling that "post-apocalyptic" is an excuse for being lazy here. The first game had this too, so I might have already been tired of it when I started this game which is somewhat unfair.-Forgettable bosses, mostly easy, possibly because I was always exploring with Iris along the way and getting the things and leveling.-Best thing about CV1 was the story and characters, here it's just okay, none of the "main" characters interested me like in CV1. In that game I was interested in MC, Mia, Yakumo, Louis, Eva/Jack, basically everyone. Here it's just whatever except for my fav Iris. Of the heroes I liked Lyle's story the most. The "romance" (lol) aspect of Josee/Holly detracted imo.-CV1 rarely ever forced you to use a certain companion. CV2 did it way too much. I would have had more fun if I could always choose my companion. It's part of your build as well. I should have freedom in this kind of game, and open world should mean more not less.-Too many bosses and areas. With the sameyness especially late it gets to be a drag and I just want to get them over with.1/2
Highs:-The open world and core gameplay with your companion and bike gave me a sense of wonder and urge to play the game 24/7 that I didn’t get from ANY aspect of the original. I never played the original all day, I had to stop after a few hours because everything is just a dungeon grind. This game I can easily play for 12 hours straight and just explore and fuck around for a lot of that time.-Companion play would have been worse than CV1 because I didn’t like the characters as much except it came in clutch by giving me one character that not only fixed this but did even better, my girl Iris, who I used at every opportunity possible in the game so probably about 70% of my hours in game total. I love her more than any character in CV1! You don’t need a ton of cutscenes and dialogue and fanservice and worshipping MC to be lovable. I like every bit of dialogue she has, her attitude, everything. She’s a good person who isn’t put in the center of everything and is fun to fight alongside too. Only char I maxed affinity with.-Combat felt more fluid, responsive, and varied than CV1. It just feels deeper, I can’t explain. And there are more weapons and builds to choose from. Combat wins over CV1 easily.-Lyle story was very wholesome. Good story of honor and friendship.-Magmell Island. I lingered there. Comfy, great design, the whole game could have been an expanded version of it. I like having a “base” with wilderness, road, and dungeon areas around it and it’s nice to look at.-Rating all the main areas I would say Magmell Island > Scar > Sunken City > Undead Forest. I saw a lot of people disliked Scar. I quite liked it and found it the most “Metroidvania” area. Lyle’s story felt more relevant there too. Like this was the battleground they fought in past or present.-The potential for replayability is here, I’m interested in a NG+ but only if/when they let me play with Iris for the entire game.-Iris has the best thighs in the game btw2/2
