I think starfield has some potentially interesting stuff in the setting but fucking all of it happened before the game starts. I heard it was originally more of a survival game where you might actually have a reason to visit all of those empty mining planets for supplies but there’s just literally nothing to do in the game as released.

"Hard" sci-fi has no more predictive power than soft sci-fi, because it simply extrapolates known science beyond the point of its usefulness. Jules Verne's tale of going to the moon by being shot out of a giant cannon was "hard sci-fi" by his standards. The actual method, using a staged rocket, would have seemed outlandish, and the constant radio communication with the ground would have seemed like actual fantasy in his day.Soft sci-fi often has more to say about the realities of being human, something which is timeless, than hard sci-fi which wastes energy of rattling off technical details of machinery which will never come to pass.

The only bug they bothered to fix was the one that let you farm infinite rep from Maddy even though her faction was the most worthless one but also still had 90% of the locked crafting recipes in the game. Fuck you for wanting to craft something more than arrows and basic poisons in a run. Everything else about the game is abandonware.Given the retarded sounding plot premise in the trailer, I have zero hopes for Solasta devs learning from any of their mistakes and making Solasta 2 better. Solasta 2 is going to be so fucking shit at launch.

One had all the best magic stuff, one had all the best stuff for crafting specific magic items plus crafting scrolls and all the magic scrolls. Then there was the two martial factions one with high tier generic martial stuff and the other that gave you all the primed weapons if you wanted to craft your own, then there was the faction with all the potions crap. That seems like a pretty good split to me.

Since people are disingenuous they will always just respond by saying "that's not interesting actually", but Starfield's setting does have the colony war backstory which informs a lot of the current conflict you see in the game among the various factions. Some of the people you meet are veterans and this informs some of their beliefs and opinions, and others are too young to have lived through it, and the game does a good job of making these characters distinct, and disagree on various things. You also have people who were loyal to the various opposing factions and carry that forward after the war. It's a fine premise for a semi-realistic setting, if you're not going to do conflict with aliens, then going for a post-conflict or current-conflict between colonies makes sense.Also, Starfield isn't really hard scifi. There is telekinesis, time travel, alternate dimension hopping, and all kinds of things like that. You have to play the game for a few hours to unlock that though, so I understand why almost all discourse here neglects that part. It's typically people who haven't played the game arguing with people who haven't played the game. The Expanse has a hostile alien life form as well, which has all kinds of abilities like infecting people, mind control, creating barriers, and spanning zones of space. It may have started as a human-centric story about human conflict, but they introduced an alien.I would say Starfield was "ok", it's my least played Beth game because I didn't like that it has less npc scripting and less fantasy elements. It turns out, people love the magic and fantasy that are in Fallout and TES. Despite the above correction on there being some interesting things about the setting, it was still overall less interesting comparatively speaking. Add in the fact that fantasy is always more popular than scifi, and it's not a mystery SF underperformed relative to FO/TES. I still wouldn't say it was bad though.Already got Expanse preordered.
