I think the whole "life-changing" thing has done a lot of damage to the western VN community. I can understand saying something like that ironically or exaggerating, but that's not how it's meant a lot of the time, and it got used unironically by pretentious retards enough that it stuck as if there's some special aspect of this medium that's supposed to make it innately profound, when VNs are just an offshoot of adventure games. It's a little hard to explain without sounding like I'm shitting on the medium (which I don't mean to do; it has its own strengths) but this whole dynamic has made discussion about VNs far worse and far more retarded than it ever needed to be.
