I really don't get why people somehow think D3 would fix anything, what could a D3 even do to "fix" destiny at this point? Storywise it's a fucking disaster because 4 campaigns were vaulted along with later seasonal plotlines, which also introduced plenty of important characters and moments after the end of their respective expansions. So outside of Shadowkeep to Beyond Light which had at least a vague sense of connection, the player is just mindlessly jumping around from plot to plot while characters they don't know about just chime in over comms, and it doesn't get better if they try Portal content either.It would be the only thing that could stem the bleeding because the series experienced a huge player drop and content creators need the series for their jobs. But even now it's doubtful that it could do much for this series, save for rebooting everything and starting back from the end of Rise of Iron.

I think it was said that Witch Queen was their most pre-ordered expansion ever, and even though Lighfall and TFS hit peak concurrent playercounts, player spending was slashed by 45%, and things were even worse throughout the "Year of Prophecy". Even though Marathon's pre-order numbers are very bleak, they are slightly growing and are still greatly outdoing Destiny 2. Marathon will become the priority because outside of working on maps and world events there's probably going to be less money going to paying actors for CG cutscenes and shit. Destiny on the other hand will go on the backburner after the June update.

Sadly they kept squandering every single ounce of goodwill and patience that they had. Raiding in D2 was honestly the most fun I have ever had raiding. Cool encounters and what felt like valuable and really cool loot. The shooting and movement while not really that special just feels good. Personally I could spend hours just chilling around in patrol zones hoping for some guns with good rolls while just shooting shit and trying to maximize the spawns whenever enemies started moving against each other. The setting itself was also really cool and interesting, when they kept stuff vague and mysterious, but then they decided to turn it into a lesbian drama for some reason. It's not that I mind characters being gay or female, but it was so incredibly ham-fisted. Them turning Osiris and saint into a couple was also just super retarded, and suddenly the two of the coolest characters got turned into a dysfunctional gay relationship that always took the forefront instead of the civilization ending events we are trying to prevent. Another personal annoyance of mine is how the design of Armor took a massive fucking nose-dive compared to D1. I feel like I could keep going on and on and on..... I still wanna play D2 I honestly haven't played since the final-shape that arguably had some good shit going on, I really enjoyed the Path-finding system for just farming rewards from the destination itself... Maps/matches would've been more seemless and persistent where you wouldn't simply matchmake like a Destiny crucible map but drop into essentially like a patrol space like Destiny instead with no timer. I think the oxygen mechanic from OG might've been a timer though but I would assume that would be limited to certain spaces or stuff like the ship map. Even the characters were rushed together with reused Destiny ability sets because Ziegler really loves heroes and comes from Valorant while before we would've had basic shells that we would probably kit out with abilities and customise ourselves. The current enemy roster for Marathon probably will leave a lot to be desired because they are mostly just reused D2 cabal I have a feeling Bungie will compensate for lack of combat depth because of the lack of enemy variety with bullet sponge enemies. Mechanically the raid-like map won't be too complex I think and will be rather simple until maybe the like the final levels where it'll devolve into streamer slop for Bungie's le ebin stream moment where the first person gets into the vault to fight the Compiler.
