Honestly, it feels like a competition at times where everyone is trying to one-up each other on what they can do next. It also helps that SEGA seems very lax and isn't taking down every project that pops up seemingly every couple of weeks these days. I also hate comparing Sonic to anything Nintendo related but just look at the stuff they've taken down over the years (emulators, fangames, events, ports, youtube channels dedicated to posting Nintendo game music, etc.). This leads to a more strained relationship between the fans and the series they love. Talented Mario, Zelda, Pokemon fans exist but it always feels like they have to walk on eggshells whenever they're announcing the next big Nintendo fan project. I wouldn't say that the Sonic fanbase is more passionate than them, they're just allowed to express this passion more freely.
