OC and FT exist you just don't want to do them which is fine.XIV never really needed a gear treadmill. The main thing that supposedly kept people around was the mediocre story for w/e reason.The dooming does just get to people eventually about the story the same way it does in WoW that they start to notice a lot of the flaws they previously ignored. One of the biggest ones being character progression at end-game is just setting a lot of self-goals for yourself and when you run out of those you have nothing to really do to progress your character power if that's what you want.
