Two years ago it had a niche for killing Charger Behemoths and the devs have utterly shit on it as punishment ever since then.The primary weapon version is warbond-exclusive, it's a pocket version of the support weapon that handles better but does less damage, but the fact that it doesn't eat up your support weapon slot automatically makes it better. It still sucks, but at least you can use a real support weapon to make up the difference.The way you're supposed to use flamethrowers in this game is to just set the ground on fire and back up, letting enemies walk into the fire to damage themselves. You can't be aggressive with the flamethrowers since they don't stagger enemies, and ironically they're bad at handling crowds due to being stupidly easy to flank (you're at melee range against hordes).Like, you can have fun with them, but they're just bad weapons. You have to work at it to find the fun.

With good aim you can one-shot Hulks and War Striders, whereas against bugs it's going to take at least two shots against pretty much every heavy even if you target the weak points. Several bot objective buildings can also be destroyed with one shot from the Epoch, while the same isn't true for bugs.

Also, against Hulks if you miss the eye shot you can just finish it off with an uncharged shot, no need to fully charge it twice.I guess I like the Epoch more simply because it's a lot more flexible. If you're good at aiming you can make those 15 shots go a lot farther than the 6 you get with Recoilless, with roughly the same amount of stationary reloads and without being tied down by an ammunition backpack. The big explosion damage is also very useful, for example a side shot against a bot turret will kill it because the explosion will still splash the heat sink, and it cleans off the underside of Dropships with a charged shot which makes Bot Drops much less of a pain in the ass.

If I'm sniping visors with the railgun or speargun, my shot always goes where I'm aiming. With the epoch it can deviate a few degrees and that can easily turn a hit into a miss.About the only enemy that I've really been impressed using the Epoch against was the dragon roach since the Epoch does a lot of AOE damage and the roach, unlike most heavies, has a lot of hitboxes that aren't immune to explosions.
