ARR, what you're playing, is 2.0. The first expansion, Heavensward, is 3.0, and so on. Between expansions there's post-patches, called 2.1, 2.2, etc, you'll get used to it. While doing main scenario quests aka MSQ also do your class/job quests. IDK which class you chose but let's say you chose Thaumaturge, it has a class quest every 5 levels, do those because at 30, when you finish the quest, you can unlock Black Mage, and thereafter you are a Black Mage instead of a Thaumaturge and your job quests every 5 levels give you new skills that you'll need. Same for other classes.Your level 45 and 50 quest give you good armor. At level 50 you finish your job quests and can't do your new ones until you get to 3.0 Heavensward (you'll know when this happens and the game will tell you anyway.) You can still level your job, you just won't get the new skills/quests til later. There are some side storylines you will encounter as you go. Each expansion has a "trial series," a "normal raid series," an "alliance raid series," and some other stuff. You CAN skip these but some of them are pretty good and come up in the MSQ later so if you're enjoying the game it wouldn't hurt you to set some time aside to do these. In the case of ARR, you won't unlock any until you finish the level 50 main scenario quest (MSQ), and the alliance raid series is mandatory for MSQ anyway. Binding Coil, the normal raid series, you might look into doing that when you finish the level 50 MSQ. When questing, purple quests on the map usually unlock things, be it storylines, dungeons, features, etc.Yellow quests are purely lore and xp, not very important. A few storylines hide behind them though.

There was once a time when the world was full and vibrant but that has long passed.The game's main playerbase are people who goon now. People who will never do the MSQ but saw the game was bootleg Second Life. Even role-playing here sucks because most people roleplay as... themselves but the race they play ingame, and keep interactions very much of a 2014 mentality, all we can do is small talk or erp, the idea of "like a hundred other things" goes over their head.Anyway in short, game used to be good. The normie blight that killed WoW moved here at large. It's easier to get into and enjoy playing WoW compared to XIV. About the only major difference at the base level is people on WoW can type and carry a conversation more often than people here because people here are used to animations crutching for their lack of literacy/imagination.

If you want better gear, when you finish the 50 MSQ you can use tomestones of poetics (you get them from various activities) to buy ilevel 130 ironworks gear in Revenant's Toll, Mor Dhona from one of the whores in the booth near the northeastern exit from town.Dungeons are lower pressure in this game than WoW. In WoW people will kick you out of their group for wanting to grab a quest item, in this game people are, at their worst, a bit impatient but mostly pretty accommodating to "sprouts" (new players with the green leaf symbol by their name.)
