Pioneer got its yearly update :) A couple cool changes are that now they simulate the proper color of starlight procedurally using planckian locus which I think is pretty sweet. Also they added "find X NPC in Y system" missions which I found fun because you'll arrive in a system with several spaceports to potentially search and therefore more player agency vs. flying a beeline to a single objective like a lot of other missions.

Mechanically it's very good and has a lot of potential, but practically you'll be nickel-and-dimed to death for basic content and end up in an empty, unbalanced, half-baked sim environment with like 6 other extremely autistic rich people in MP.

How much do you bet they're gonna, once again, release a truck sim but won't add proper wheel support until 1 or 2 years later.
I just need some proper competition to ETS/ATS man.
>>
>>558462628
I watched a video that mentioned that game and how it's aiming for a more sovlful truck sim. I'm not expecting much honestly, but competition is always good. I remember thinking Alaskan Road Truckers looked like it had potential but apparently it's shit.

Actually I hope it's good just because it has classic trucks. One thing I've never understood about ATS/ETS2 is why there isn't a third party addon market for it unlike flight and train sims. People would pay to have decent old trucks in the game, or different maps.
>>
>>558463683
>>558463950
I'm cautiously optimistic. I really need something better than ATS/ETS. They're too fucking sterile its killing me. Also yeah, i need some classic trucks. As far as i can tell the mod scene on those games is a fucking joke.

People on the forums are saying it'll most likely be quite arcadey in terms of the gameplay, not sure whether that will translate to the driving itself though.

Personally I'm waiting for Motor Town to come out of EA, that has trucks in it.
>>
>>558467682
>Motor Town
It's pretty arcadey and still a bit half-baked but it's a lot of fun. Very pure and full of sovl.
>>
>>558471931
Buying early access games is against my religion so I'll be waiting anyway.
>>
>>558443825
I enjoy it a lot. It's very clean and lightweight (engine hand built from lua) while providing extremely solid fundamentals for a space sim (newtonian flight model with orbits, full manual control, full scale systems and seamless planetfall, full size procedural galaxy with rpg elements vs. just a build sandbox like kerbal). IMO the experience feels much more complete and definitely more of a true sim than some of the bigger names like Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen. In fact I don't think there currently exists any 3D open world space game with a true newtonian model (RIP Rogue System. Alliance Space Guard is in dev and definitely worth watching IMO). It helps that this project has been in continued development since 2006. The main criticisms of the game will be about the same as Elite II; after enough hours the missions get samey and the galaxy starts to feel empty. I had about 50 hours just on my playthrough of last year's build. There is a bit of grind to buy new ships but nowhere close to grinding in ED, mostly I play Pioneer like a truck sim where I'll hop in to fly a few relaxing hours and maybe complete one or two transits. There are time controls a la Elite II and you can play in real time taking hours or days to get around if you like. Project is free and open source as well. Probably my single favorite game/project if I had to pick one, yes I am shilling thankyou for listening.

>People on the forums are saying it'll most likely be quite arcadey in terms of the gameplay, not sure whether that will translate to the driving itself though.
I mean most of the games they made so far (Mudrunner, Snowrunner etc) are pretty arcade and are better played with a controller even after they added wheel support. So i wouldn't be surprised. It can still be a good game tho if it actually has soul.

Hey, remember when i said the chinks at moza refunded me ? Well i was wrong, it was just their website taking a fat shit.
So i send a mail to cancel right the same day i ordered to order from some local shop instead.
They answered 5 days later to tell me "SORRY SORRY PLEASE DON'T CANCEL WE WILL PUT YOU FIRST IN LINE ALSO YOUR PACKAGE IS ALREADY ON DELIVERY PREASE UNDERSTAND"
Then nothing until today (its been like 22 days), even tho i sent more mails to tell them they were full of shit and i wanted my money back.
Made a post on their subr*ddit to explain my problem, one of their dude send me a DM 5 min later asking for my order numbers, and 5 minutes later i was refunded.
I wish you didn't have to do this kind of shit, but oh well it worked.

So is this going to be Snowrunner but on-road and with wear and tear mechanics instead of component health bars?
I could see myself enjoying that since I generally like the way Runner games play and feel but they'll seriously have to overhaul the driving physics at high speed. Its extremely finnicky keeping your truck in a straight line when you're going fast.
>>
>>558522485
I really wanted the 152 in IL-2 but I barely use it since most sorties never take you high enough and below 18k ft it's just a slower, less maneuverable D9.
>>
>>558531063

Yeah this one has always annoyed me. Since the very first spintires, the engine has NEVER been good at high speed stuff. It wasn't made for it. It was made for huge off-road, slow fuck off trucks. And yet you'll always find retards trying to zip around or installing mods with fast cars. Just play another game at this point.

>had some weird CPU temp spikes in only one game
>not even a sim game, which is weird because DCS and others sims eat CPU for breakfast and i never really had a problem with those
>find a bunch of people with the same problem, no answer
>power draw stays nearly the same but the CPU (7950x3d) suddenly goes bananas to 85°c+ for like a minute and then goes down, repeat
>for no good reason, nothing special is happening
>been 2 years since i've installed this CPU, perhaps i'll try to repaste it
>repaste and refill the AIO
>problem is gone
My educated guess would be, this game in particular would start using like one or two specific cores, and those two were positioned at a point where the thermal paste had dried up. It looked pretty crusty when i took it off, i don't think i've put enough, not used to such huge CPUs. Oh well lesson learned.
Thanks for reading my blog post.
>>
>>558614024
Nvm it still does it. Like, less hot but still does. I guess its just a piece of shit game.
>>
>>558614024
Try using Process Lasso to set your core affinity to P-Cores only, and if that doesn't work then maybe try halving the P-Cores allowed until either the spikes go away or you're running single core.
In my experience, E-Cores in gaming are like women in military/sports; it's not their place, but they'll insist on being included anyways and then fuck everything up and complain about it.
>>
>>558620686
It doesn't have the E-core/P-core jank that intel has, but i'm using Process lasso anyway. And i've tried mostly everything, including turning off half the CPU to only use the side with extra-cache. From what i've gathered, it's just an issue with world of warcraft and nothing can really be done. Some of my friends reported the same thing.
I mean, 85°c isn't even that crazy for an AMD cpu of this gen, especially the 3d model. I just annoy me that it gets that how for no apparent reason and ramps up the fans.
Thanks for the tips tho.

Only modern fighter i've ever seen flying was the Rafale at some Paris airshow. I'll never forget it.
I've heard the airshows in the US are even better because they don't have (or did not used to have, maybe its different now) such strict limitations about what kind of figures they can do, not flying over the public etc.

Generally good, there is sometimes one corner on the stage that you need to remember. Typically when a sharp corner comes after a crest or a sweeping corner, so you need to break much earlier then normally. I've had same issues in dirt rally series. But codrivers flips pages and is animated to react to g forces. Its kind of a gimmick for replay though. Ive driven on monte so much on dirt rally/ea wrc i know these stages lol.

A nice modern joystick base with quality spring cams for resistance and dry clutches for dampening can feel pretty convincing, and is very tunable.
HOWEVER, for like $100-200 more these days you can get the entry level Moza FFB base, so it's hard to recommend buying new non-FFB stuff besides it having a little more software setup you have to be fiddling around with.

Buy once cry once with high-end gear you might not stick with, or start cheap and secondhand and only upgrade once you use it enough to break it or get annoyed by its shortcomings?
>>
>>559194874
What sort of gear, sticks, throttles etc? Buy a good cheaper one and go from there, buy once cry once is a stupid strategy that will lead to wasted money.
>>
>>559194965
Racing gear in this case, internet consensus seems to be that direct-drive and load cells are the absolute minimum now. I started flight simming with surplus Xbox 360 gear, so know the slow grind pays off, but the shopping-first minority is loud and awfully persistent in the sim hobby.
I feel like most people who spend big on gear are buying the idea of a lifestyle, kind of like someone who buys a treadmill and just drapes laundry over it.
"I should really use that more" is a stupid thought to get from looking at an object that was purchased to enable fun.
Separating the "collect and optimize equipment" hobby from the actual "play the damn game" hobby can be difficult sometimes.
>>
>>559195783
The simming community is full of rich fuckers who spend hideous amounts of money, don't listen to them. If you have absolutely nothing then just get a logitech tier wheel and pedals, see if you're really into it, and then go from there. I know bugger all about wheels, maybe check the OP. There's no point spending a grand, playing for a month and then never again.
>>
>>559192305
the trento bondone race is cool
>>
>>559195987
I could afford to spend hideous amounts of money on it, but why blow $200+ on a Moza direct-drive when an $80 ebay-special G29 does the few hours of casual entertainment a month job at least half as well?
Glad to have never sunk $1k into a high-end HOTAS and sim pit, that urge waxes and wanes too and the cheap shit is much easier to chuck in a drawer and forget for a while.
>>
>>559196928
It's fun in Assetto Corsa, I wonder if it'll be in the new one. iirc someone has the license for Pikes Peak these days so it's not in any games, which is a shame as I love hillclimbs and Pikes Peak is kino.
>>559197002
Exactly, get the cheap stuff and have fun mate, if in the future you're still into it and want to upgrade then you'll be in a better position.
>>
>>559194965
>buy once cry once is a stupid strategy that will lead to wasted money.
Used high-end stuff will sell more easily and for a higher percentage of the initial cost compared to bargain basement dogshit that everyone will just assume is already broken.
>>
>>559204790
It's not thousands or dogshit, you can get something at a reasonable price for cheaper than high end autist grade.

There's a minimum viable quality level for a half-decent experience. Logitech or CH will still get you most of your $50 back.
Whether you end up liking it or not, it's also a low enough investment to gift to a friend or donate or chuck in the bin and move on with your life if you can't be bothered to resell things used.

It really depends on the aircraft. half of Xplane modules that aren't airlines have dogshit flight models.

I'm in the Northeastern U.S. but obviously I'd go elsewhere too. I've never tried a civ sim before, just milsims like RoF and IL-2. I've been playing a pirated copy of msfs 2020 and it's cool but I did a flyover of my hometown and I was seething at how wrong the buildings looked. They didn't even get the gas station correct.
>>
>>559409798
Coverage in the NE US is pretty good, but if you're outside of the photogrammetry areas and start seeing autogen buildings it all looks like dogshit and you may as well play X-Plane.
24 is better than 20 in almost every aspect except for access to pirated content, but the high-def areas are the same in both sims.
>>
>>559409798
>They didn't even get the gas station correct.
Yeah, I think they just have an entire call center of pajeets going over the satellite images and drawing boxes where they assume the buildings are, then probably AI does the rest to populate the boxes with pre-baked building models. That's for the good scenery too, the regular orthographic scenery looks like a bad acid trip to hell.
A lot of the North East got the good scenery upgrade in MSFS a few months ago, pretty much from DC to New Jersey (IIRC, I haven't checked that area out because I don't know anything over there).

>then probably AI does the rest to populate the boxes with pre-baked building models.
The one I'm talking about is a wawa. They just need to make a single generic gas station wawa model then they can copy paste 75% of the gas stations on the east coast.
>>
Everybody talks about AutoOrtho and whatnot for X-Plane scenery, but something I've always wondered about is the state of hand-crafted landmarks in X-Plane. MSFS has thousands of those and adds more with each world/city update. How's X-Plane on that? I assume it has really famous ones like the Statue of Liberty at least.
>>
>>559413407
AutoOrtho looks good high up but shit at low level so I can't imagine landmarks look good in x plane.

I miss this little bugger like you wouldn't believe.
Pretty much everything about AMS1 was perfect - best '60s F1, best '80s F1, Brazilian Stocks weren't a very hype thing, but once you drove them a little bit and messed around with the setup to make them snappier, you didn't want to go near a GT3 car and AMS didn't have any. Oh and there was one guy, who made shitton of mods for this covering pretty much any track you might want and also a 1974 911 which probably is the most fun version of this car in simracing. This is the game that taught me to heel-and-toe and it's the only game where I can properly drift based on feel.
Sadly, it doesn't work on Windows anymore - pretty much expect it to crash when there's a lot of contact and or sliding. Surprisingly, this problem doesn't exist on Linux, but with Proton, resetting FFB doesn't work and it tends to get stuck after a heavy spin. Maybe I should try it again with GE-Proton?

Anyway, as much as AMS2 isn't there, recent updates made it kinda better. I honestly think the AI is the best in the market now if set correctly and ran through quali. '60s F1 is kinda too planted and then becomes tough to control under breaking and less predictable when you slam the gas, but at least the AI is less messy. Obviously, the OOB FFB is kinda its own thing and people either call it functional or hate it. There's the custom files, but all are fucking forks of this one RFuktor mod that started it all and they all suck.
HOWEVER!
I have found something called FullFFB by JP and supposedly it's made from the ground up. It's actually very good. I've just spent an hour lapping with various cars, even shit like road cars and I never do that in this sim.

The game is alot better now than it was at release. The game has a linear campaign and new one that carries over ammunition usage and damage if you were to lose a ship or aircraft. The game has new missile kinematics for A2A combat and works with missile AA also.

By the way I've been keeping an eye on the Hawk replacement stuff, which I believe is to be determined this year. There's a lot of pressure on it to be British, and Aeralis are really ramping things up, hiring lots of people and expanding. It sounds like it'll be between that and the 346, but the idea of having a foreign Red Arrows plane is abhorrent to everyone here. I haven't actually heard any news on developments, just that Aeralis could be a risk as nothing has been made yet.

>which I believe is to be determined this year
I hope that's true since it would give some credits to other GCAP timeline rumors I have heard.
>There's a lot of pressure on it to be British
Yeah, even without that retarded Sun article there is no way they would choose a foreign jet for the Red Arrows if you think about it.
Aeralis being so new and without experience made me doubt them, but afaik their offer to Dassault for a joint development is still pending so it could work in their favor if they don't behave like they with the FCAS.
A while ago I had heard a rumor (from someone inside the M-346 assembly line) that the RAF had asked about the possibility of them leasing some M-346s, but it either didn't make sense economically (RAF is already paying a lot of money for priority spots at the IFTS) or something as I've never heard it again.

I was thinking of looking into an ultralight IRL. Most likely one of the kits that look a bit more plane like.
>>
>>559545463
Microlights are really popular in the UK. Cheaper to get a license, and cheaper to own and run, though apparently there's a specific light aircraft license too that's cheaper than the regular PPL that means you can fly ultralights.
>>
>>559545751
Don't need a license at all in the states. I'd take lessons before doing it though.
>>
>>559546139
Lucky, what about gliders? You don't need a license for gliders in the UK but you normally take lessons and get a certificate.
>>
>>559546295
Just looked it up and you need a PPL with a glider rating. It seems to just specifically be ultralights that you don't need one for. Wouldn't be surprised if there's a push to end that in the next 10 years. Every time I watch a cam from an ultralight there's a bunch of seething from pilots in the replies. My real dream is to get one of those WWI Plane kits though.

Played some more AMS2. Here's me in a 10 lap race against AI overtaking the blue guy. This FullFFB custom file really does work wonders. FFB is preference and unless you drive the real car on track at speed and at the limit, it's honestly hard to say what is realistic. I wish there was a realistic standard, but it's tubers choice now, and some bald guy now wants shit in his pants feels, so there's no telling what a realistic feel should be like. Anyway, I grown up used to GTR2 and Race 07, some rFactor mods too. Live for Speed feels familiar for road cars, but also ass for racing on the limit. AMS1 was my GOAT, since it felt like Assetto Corsa in early access, before they decided to mess with it and ended up with an FFB that not only had lag on output, but also would yank the wheel hard to infinity once you started going seriously sideways. AMS2 had the Project Cars genes and by default it feels like it has this super strong centring spring effect no matter how you set it, but also proactively counter-steers the wheel when you start sliding, no matter how cheap the wheel is, it work like a charm, but feels kinda assisted. With the FullFFB file, it's stille there, but also the on-rails centering-spring effect is gone. Driving the Brazilian Stocks feels very natural, but GT3 feel overly drifty, though telemetry and replays say otherwise.
I'm enjoying this more and more. Car and road feel through FFB isn't on ACC level (I may have just grown to treat it as a standard), but it definitely feels more natural than stock FFB.

the /simg/ guide is outdated. The author on Discord said basically nowadays you have 4 options
> Sneedmaster for poorfags
> Wingwing if you want the best price for what you get, but still more expensive than Thrustmaster
> Saitek for GA cesnna stuff if you only like that
> Virpil if you are a richfag
Everything else is just not worth it/ there are better alternatives for the price

Agree, though the physics in evo are great it seems they have a serious management problem..
Also for the love of christ they're making it another gt3 simulator.. there are already 4 of those.
Making another gt3 sim is utterly pointless in 2026

Acr is pretty enjoyable and challenging though.
I've got a serious issue with my wheels clipping dirt and dramatically spinning out then flipping.
Not sure if it's a physics error or I'm just bad but some of the tarmac roads I'll hit a corner the slightest bit wide and the a rear tyre loses contact with the edge, resulting in Tony hawk levels of spinning and flipping

Anything that's all metal they can just machine and assemble in small or large batches. Anything that is injection molded (like the Apache collective grip I ordered three months ago) will have to wait until they have demand for a big enough batch to make it worth it to mount the mold in the injection molding machine and get it running. Not sure if they do their molding in-house or with a third party, but either way it doesn't make sense to do all that work for one or two grips.

>>
>>559742037
Its alright for entry level stuff, i still have one and no complaint besides the throttle being a bit sticky but with a quick google you can see how to get around that.
The only thing that may hold you back is the lack of buttons on the stick, depending on the airframe you want to play.

>>
>>559742037
I have this exact setup and I like it quite a bit. I haven't owned any fancier gear, so take my opinion on it with a good dose of salt.
I only dabble in flight sims a bit here and there, but I find it works well. I like the paddle on the back of the throttle for rudder control, saves me using stick twist or having to buy and set up pedals.
The stick itself having a throttle slider is also handy since I can use it for throttle control if I'm playing an older and/or simpler sim. For example, I've been playing the re-release of F-22: Air Dominance Fighter, which only supported sticks with 4 buttons back when it originally released. The re-release does support mapping of more buttons to various controls, but there aren't enough crucial ones that I find myself needing the extra buttons from the separate throttle unit.

If you do get it, particularly if you end up leaving it lying around for a while and then dust it off for use later, you may find that the stick twist or paddles have some jittery and false inputs. For that, you'll need to get some contact cleaner in there. For the paddles, just spray it in the hinge and it'll get in just fine. For the stick, you'll need to undo a bunch of screws to get it open, but once you've got a bit of a gap you can get the cleaner onto the twist mechanism inside without taking the whole thing apart.
>>
>>559742037
I've had it for first year of my simming. It's not bad for the price. Paddles on the throttle can be used as a rudder. If you have access to 3d printer you can also upgrade the throttle with a mod that gives it better feel and accuracy.

It's okay, the throttle is cheap, plasticky and sticks, but does the job, it has tonnes of buttons at least. The stick is much better. I need to mod my throttle to make it smoother, it's not good as a collective for helis. For my GA setup I have the slider on the stick as the mixture, the throttle as the throttle, and then the little trim wheel thing on the throttle as RPM, because that's genuinely awful as a trim wheel, I instead use buttons on the throttle for that.

I don't know if it's available in english, but my cousin's daughter has used Lectio Viva and it's a great book.

You can listen to the Vatican radio news, they have a version in latin. But they have the ecclesiastical pronunciation.

Are there any sims where managing a steam engine is fun?
I was just reading about triple expansion steam engines used on Liberty ships during WW2... it has awoken something in me.

He's seething because train simulator general is listed in the OP and he mistook it for the sims so he's been spamming his toons. It is the most actually autistic thing I've seen in years of using this general.
