Rmember back in late 21, Beyond Light was winding down and experiencing a content drought, Witch Queen was a few months away, covid bucks were at their peak, people were still off work for the pandemic, Bungie had almost 1500 employees, no one was talking about any mergers or takeovers of Bungie yet. They did a massive marketing push for Witch Queen and hyped up the 10yr anniversary as the perfect time for new players to join in. But then, any and every new player who started playing D2 December 21, or any returning player who wasn't current, got dumped into Dares of Eternity as soon as they started the game, no way to skip it, no way to quit it, and the rest of the game was locked behind you successfully clearing a run through Dares, only you were several hundred light under the required level and couldn't damage any enemies, and the matchmaking was light based so it only put nulights with other nulights. Did Bungie see this as a priority for them to fix? Nah, instead they told current players to equip low-light gear and go play Dares. The anniversary event came and went, two months and they didn't patch that. There have been many more, equally stupid gamebreaking issues since then, Bungie takes about a month to fix them, IF they ever do get around to fixing them. Cash shop errors where people get stuff for free? Fixed day of. Damage glitches that make content easy to clear? Fixed same week or day of going mainstream. Gamebreaking glitches that prevent you from being able to progress through main story or collect specific loot in paid content? Fixed 6 months later if it ever gets fixed. Bungie is a company that will steal your money and waste your time at every opportunity. Anyone buying Marathon is a fool and will get the same treatment from Bungie as the Destiny community. They'll charge you at minimum $40+tip every year, lock you out of content, and refuse to fix anything that isn't directly tied to the Marathon cash shop.
Bungie could've avoided this whole mess with D2 if they just didn't add the portal or restructure everything in the game around it and power levelling. The amount of gear they have yet don't tie to specific activities makes it feel pointless to add new activities because they don't have any specific gear rewards tied to them. Vanguard Ops playlist had every Strike and Battleground under one activity now each strike and battleground is individually selected in the portal. Solo Ops was a complete waste of time that would've been better spent on adding replayable solo content to Kepler. Returning shit like Ketchcrash or Astral Alignment would've been better spend bringing back old strikes like Garden World.
