Sonic only gets seriously mischaracterized when written by Ian, Evan, or one of the older western branch stuff. Then there's the movies that gave him a baby characterization specifically for mandate reasons. You have to go out of your way to do things like this. Otherwise the only way to make these mistakes is to be either a shipperfag or be nostalgically attached to Satam/Archie.

Honestly, I'd take Pontaff over Ian, Evan, and the rest of the so-called "lore team." As long as Knuckles' Mountain theme and Guardian status are so specifically literal that he is literally stuck in one place, he can not be Sonic's antithesis on a functional level for obvious reasons, and can never just be part of the Core 4 like he is marketed as. It's a contradiction that would easily be resolved by this one addition.
