So I just finished watching Mark's play through of Chapter 5 and honestly, once you get past his hangriness, while I think "I'm not going to play Chapter 6" is a *little* harsh, overall... I don't think he said anything inaccurate or unfair. The animation is great, there's a great story and great characters in this game, but they're too hidden and muddled by overuse of chase sequences, mechanics you're just supposed to know or else you die, characters who show up and we're supposed to give a shit *, and wandering around doing the same tasks over and over. Hell, personally, on that last point, having watched GT Live's playthrough first, I did think to myself "This is the first chapter of Poppy Playtime that has reminded me of Garten of Banban." As much as I've liked the series so far, it's not perfect.* Honestly, it feels like Giblet was introduced because his role was originally supposed to go to 1) Poppy, but she was supposed to have been run off at the time, so that didn't make too much sense, or 2) another previously introduced ally like Doey or DogDay, but the writers couldn't figure out how to make that work, but the Butcher apparently NEEDED a friendly character and so Giblet was born, Also, borderline endgame was not the time to introduce a character like Lily, a side quest villain with their own special domain. And no, that's not a knock against Lily specifically, it's a bad time for any new villain to introduced. Revealing that Mommy Long Legs and/or CatNap was still alive would've made more sense.

Does anyone else not get the complaint that Poppy Playtime tells a lot of it's story through tapes and notes? I may just be weird, but I actually like that. Scenes like Poppy being put in the cage, Giblet being forced to kill, or Oliver's reveal as the Prototype wouldn't hit as hard if they had to tell me directly, or the game had to throw a forced flashback in. Most of them are pretty easy to find too, at most just being a case of "look behind you, stupid", and even the harder ones I'm naturally gonna look for since I spent $20 on this game, I'm getting my money's worth.My only issue is that some tapes, namely Giblet's, Ollie's, and possibly Poppy's imprisonment, should've been a bit easier to find, since they are important for understanding their characters. I found all but the last, but I get peoples' frustrations if they missed those in particular.
