If you don't want to deal with magic slots though you can just play a College of Swords bard who, despite the name, can also specialize in sharpshooting while still having access to cantrips. You could also play Pact Of The Blade warlock and just use a bow instead of melee weapons, since Warlock gets spell slots on short rests and primarily gets damage from cantrips. I really liked a Fighter (Eldritch Knight) 4 Warlock 8 I did because of the War Magic ability E. Knights have that lets you attack with a bonus action after casting a cantrip. So I could Eldritch Blast -> Arrow. A fun thing to do was to use the Eldritch Blast's pushing upgrade + a roaring arrow to just send an enemy hurtling across the map.

Warlock is about as free as free can get in terms of magic since it has access to a bunch of powerful cantrips, a lot of utility spells that don't cost spell slots, and gets spell slots back on short rests.

What happens if Shadowheart is a companion but dead (and not in your party) when you complete the Shar temple in act 2? If she's alive, she meets you at the opening of the mausoleum and gets pissy and leaves the group. Does the game resurrect her so she can leave or does she just stop being able to be brought back by Withers?
