I think it'll get 50k~ players perhaps on launch, maybe 200k altogether across the consoles + PC. Whether or not it manages to sustain itself and the playerbase post-launch is going to the real decider. What is likely, is that people are done and not going back to Destiny after Marathon launches. The average player count will maybe bump back up slighty when (or if) they get the delayed whatever it is now in the game, but its a really long bleed, and this game just doesn't have Taken King-level longevity in it. And that lies a problem, I don't think Destiny fans are going to pick up Marathon when the curtain calls on Destiny. The ones who are playing Marathon will probably be the ones to play it on release and either continue or eventually drop it, the ones who are holding back I really don't see ever getting a PvP extraction shooter.We haven't really seen any monetary systems in place for Marathon yet but I expect they'll do whatever the industry it doing and similarly charge premiums. I know this is a small nitpick about Marathon when the game has much more glaring issues but what was the idea with the massive disconnect between you and the game world? For example in Destiny when you patrol a destination you can run around it for as long as you want or when playing strikes it launches you straight into the next one and when you do return to orbit you get the screen showing the planet you were just at in the background and your ship. You then click the director button and open that solar system map and you just feel more connected to the game's world itself. Marathon on the other hand you just go back to a generic menu after a match and maybe check your inventory before clicking the next location you want to go from a simple text list, the fact there isn't some sort of map of Tau Ceti IV you can view and click on different parts to launch a match of similar to Destiny just shows how soulless and lazy the Bungoid devs really are.
