Friendly warning that some of the "optimisation" mods nuke mob pathfinding/movement near the edge of the despawn sphere. Haven't worked out which one yet but its in Simply Optimised. Non-pathfinding farms are not affected.
>>
>>558823193
I'd like to warn anons about the Entity Culling mod. It does reduce GPU load significantly, but it causes random frame rate drops even when your CPU and GPU aren't even close to being maxed out.

another controversial idea from me regarding beds after my last one was so well received. phantom mechanics should be flipped, so that they spawn after you use the bed 3 nights in a row instead of the opposite, so there is at least SOME downside for such an overpowered item. ideally this would be in tandem with my previous idea to limit the bed to just skipping the night and have a new end-game item for resetting your spawn, AND the old functionality where you need to be in a safe area to sleep, ie. lit up area and/or walls surronding you (but actually implemented correctly, unlike how it used to be), or else a monster will spawn on you

If you're stupid or desperate enough to use optimization mods that optimize game logic, yeah.
>>
>>558825325
Minecraft is a survival game, it should punish you for not sleeping.
>>
>>558826867
wrong. it should punish you for sleeping so you are incentivized to actually engage with one of the few survival mechanics in the game, surviving the night

first time trying to incorporate banners as well since I have so much dye and wool, it's a bit daunting how many possibilities there are with banners, kind of triggers an "overchoice" effect where you're never really sure what you did is the best, but overall things look good so I don't want to dwell on that

I can see how they require fairly deep knowledge of some mechanics like scaffolding and the directionality of "duped" shulkers influencing which block they end up after exiting a boat. But I don't see how its any harder than designing a 1M+dph sorting system with precise item bunching and alignments. Especially before sea pickles

>limit the bed to just skipping the night and have a new end-game item for resetting your spawn
Having two in one actually balances beds though. If you go travelling you can either bring a bed and skip the night but loose your spawn point, or not skip the night but keep whatever spawn you choose. The only way to get around this is spam a new bed every night at the expense of your whole inventory space.
>or else a monster will spawn on you
They would never do this and I don't think its a good idea. Just give a better popup. IMO a much better solution is to make beds speed up the night instead of skipping it.
>>

they’ll bring back the rascal with new mechanics, because it’s mining themed they’ll also implement the minecart improvements with a default max speed of 20 bps, trust the plan
>>
>>558941452
>default max speed of 20 bps
ISHMDDT
They would still be just as useless considering boat on (packed) ice is 40 and blue ice is 73. 20 would make the most sense considering the speed of everything else though, horses are 9-15 and continuous rocket elytra is 33.5.
Shame they'll never fix the boat bug though cause "they like it".
>>
>>558943773
I think ice boats are hideous though while minecarts/rails look way cooler, plus ice boats require constant player input to run
>>
>>558945623
>plus ice boats require constant player input to run
That's why I think they should go the same speed as minecarts, the downsides paid for by ice boats being cheaper (in the overworld).

Console edition is written in C++ so it's fast like Bedrock, but it's not full of bugs, because you can't ship console games with bugs. Give it a few months and we may get an interesting pirated version which is equivalent to Java 1.12 but that you could run on a potato.

minecraft already runs on a potato

It runs okay on medium settings on a mid-range computer. This will run much better on higher settings on a worse computer.

nobody fucking cares l'il bro. The console versions of minecraft are dogshit, major concessions had to be made to the basic gameplay when porting them over to consoles and nobody used to the java version of the game want that.

I could see some sort of revival project that tries to get the PS3 version up to date with Java/Bedrock. I could also see said project falling to pieces due to internal drama when different groups want to take the game in different directions, with one of those groups demanding LQBTQ+ representation be added
>>
>>558973873
That would be a massive modding effort for virtually zero benefit to anybody. Java performance isn't even that bad these days so I don't really know what you're smoking with these retarded ideas

Yes. The copyright of the leaked source code is most certainly held by 3D Realms which no longer owns Duke Nukem so they have basically no incentive to pursue the restoration project legally on the source code issue.

Do you guy use maps and map out your world? I feel like it's such a tiresome task

On an unrelated note, been learning architectural nomenclature. It didn't take that long and now it's such a joy to be able to point at and name everything when I see a Gothic or Greco-Roman building

Stuff like: pediment, broken pediment, architrave, corbels, entablature, buttress, gothic arch, barrel vault, gothic vault, ambulatory, colonnade, atrium, finials, pinnacle, balustrade, engaged columns, jettying, pendentive dome, cupola, acroterion, archivolts

it's particularly incredibly useful when you want to browse image examples of specific elements

my world isn't that complicated. My main base is at 300X 300Z and I've flared outwards north, south, east, and west with Nether highways in those cardinal directions. There are some landmarks close by the world origin in diagonal paths and I know my world well enough to just know where they are.
TL;DR: I don't need a map, I just press F3 and run back to 300X 300Z if I ever get lost.

>>
Am I understanding this correctly: the code that got leaked is for the game edition that they discontinued a decade ago? What's all the fuss about? How does it hurt Microsoft or help the community in any way outside of a few enthusiasts who want to play those old versions specifically? What do you get from this that you can't get from just going to older Java Edition versions available in the launcher, each of which has already been decomplied or studied by modders long ago?

It's mostly for diving into the code and seeing what's there, as I gather. Some alpha stuff and a few unused features
>>

>How does it hurt Microsoft or help the community in any way
It doesn't. It's just a few tards coping, thinking that this will allow them to have a "pure" Microsoft-free version of the game, even though they can still play old version anyway.

It's "cool" but that's about it. These old versions have been playable through emulators for the longest time.
Updating and improving these old versions is just too much work, nearly impossible. Many people have said already that these versions are also very lacking technically speaking, so not much can be done.

I really like some of the convenience features of Item Scroller, like being able to use the scroll wheel on a stack to move one item per step, moving matching items, or moving/dropping all items of the same type with one click. It also enables holding down a button and dragging over stacks to move them, which is super convenient. It also has sorting, which I wasn't even using at first

>why anyone expects more out of modern mojang is beyond me. they do not care about actually improving the game
I don't really care what they do on the surface with their cutesy mobs of the month, but modern Mojang does a shitton of things under the hood to improve the game with each update, which is equally exciting (it allows you to do a lot of cool shit server-side) and frustrating (some of the stuff is left half-implemented before they move tackle something else and also something breaks every update because they renamed a folder or one field in some json component somewhere)

Baby mobs are cute and all but they do nothing. If they want us keeping tons of mobs around how about optimizing them to lag less, or better pathfinding than always prioritizing Y level
>>
>>559229948
At least you can now build a zoo and put babies on display, something I've wanted to do for years
>>
>>559232486
That leads me to my other point about the Y level issue. Mobs will always path to the block on the highest Y level, so unless it's a flat zoo they'll all eventually just group up on the tallest structure. It's even worse with aquariums
>>
>>559229948
>If they want us keeping tons of mobs around how about optimizing them to lag less

>>
>>559235959
You'll only really notice that if you have a large area with a lot of elevation. Mobs still pathfind randomly, even if they trend toward the highest point, so in a 20x10 area they'll spread out well enough. Fish AI is far worse, since they'll clump up in a corner if you use panes instead of full glass blocks

I agree, but I also think recipes should be discovered after obtaining the item in question. Imagine having to go out and explore to find a nametag if you wanted to unlock the ability to craft them. I think that would fit the game perfectly, but it's too late now to make that change
>>
>>559287464
But it's just a nametag. It's not some magical naming rock or something, it's just a piece of paper.

>>
>>559290648
It would apply to everything that's not a basic block, stair or slab, in my opinion. It would make the exploration more fun

>>559298907
If you only needed to craft them, then all you're doing is forcing people to either remember the recipe or - more likely - look it up on the web. That would add nothing

I hate how it removes the incentive to go out and explore. You needed a slime ball to craft a leash, meaning you needed to find a swamp or a clime chunk first, but now having string is enough. You needed to go caving and find loot chests in order to obtain a horse saddle, but you can just craft it. Ditto for name tags.
You can argue that each of these individual things should be easily obtainable in early game so it makes sense to make them craftable, but with each such change they make dungeons less and less worthwhile. They aren't adding anything interesting to loot tables to replace saddles and name tags. Even just adding more collectable items like more music discs or armor trims would have helped.

>>
>>559310189
You're right in what you say, but nametags not being craftable isn't the solution. If anything, you've identified the real problem: there aren't enough trophy items in the game to encourage the player to explore and fight difficult monsters. There's no point in making low-value items hard to get, since you often need a lot of them and now it just gets annoying to gather enough of them. Instead they should add decorative and cosmetic items that don't serve any other purpose than being rare and cool. Imagine if you could find different elytra designs, or maybe special armor pieces, custom weapon models, etc. I'd be all over that

Not that guy but I also hate the lapis cost. Mostly it bugs me that it's a minor but potentially really annoying inconvenience. It's not really a serious limit on your ability to enchant, since every lapis ore you mine will give you several piece of lapis, and once you get Fortune of any tier you'll have multiple stacks of the stuff just from a vein or two. Meanwhile the actual limiter on enchanting is levels, which has its own whole series of balance issues. All it really does is make you spend an extra few seconds walking back to storage to grab your lapis when you realize you forgot it. This would be basically fixed if they just let you leave lapis in the enchant table when you close it, like coal in furnaces, but it'd still be kind of just pointless.

The solution to forgetting to bring Lapis to the enchanting table is shockingly simple.

Lapis is entirely fucking useless outside of enchanting (it's not even the only source of blue dye anymore) so I'm glad it has a use there at least. I don't understand why can't we have chiseled lapis, lapis bricks, lapis stairs etc. as decorative blocks, it would cost the dev practically nothing to add and I would finally be able to do something with the chestful of Lapis blocks that just collect dust in my storage.
>>
>>559402836

it's because they pussied out and made blue dye available from other sources. now there is nothing to use it for because no one really enchants with villager trading being so broken
>>
>>559437339
>from other sources
Getting blue flowers is tedious compared to how much lapis you can get, it's still the main source of blue dye.
>>
>>559441082
I usually build a flower farm that produces cornflower, so I can save my lapis for builds. But since you can also trade for lapis, it's very easy to get more if you happen to run out
>>
>>559403490
>>559373402
I already do keep a chest or barrel of lapis next to my table. The issue is that this is just one extra step that doesn't need to be there. Lapis is used for nothing else (unless you really like blue armor trim or can't be bothered to go punch some cornflowers) so there's no reason for it to ever leave the enchanting table. The fact that this is so minor of an issue is actually why it bothers me so much. It's on the same level as the driver-side window in your car automatically rolling itself all the way down when you tap the button just wanting to open it a little bit, or a door where the latch is a little stuck so you have to remember to turn the knob back in order to actually close it. It's just one little inconvenience that's not the end of the world or anything but irks me to no end because I shouldn't have to live like this. It should be the easiest fix in the world. Lapis should stay in the enchanting table. There's no reason for it not to stay there.
>>
>>559443595
The enchanting table is not a storage block, because making blocks unnecessarily storage blocks is unoptimized. And this lets multiple players use the enchanting table at the same time with their own items and their own lapis.
>>
>>559356852
Two things.
The only time the enchantment table is useful is early game, when you probably also don't have much lapis.
Where does the lapis go? You just rub it on the book and then throw the rest on the floor?
It feels like a lazy change they made just to give lapis a use

I was building a massive Christmas tree for a Christmas base once. I never finished it, but it did end up having intricate branches and vines and glowstone encased in stained glass to simulate glowing particles. It ended up becoming more world-tree like than christmas tree-like.
Pic related is just the trunk of it, unfortunately I don't have a newer picture.
All that to say it's definitely doable but a bit of a chore. Might wanna set up a water column because you're gonna be going up and falling a lot.

Ah yes of course. And stronger enchantments require a thicker layer of powder.
Would be interesting if you could use different materials to influence which enchantments you get, making the inputs seem actually useful and anything to reduce the RNG and grinding in the current etable is a win.

Some languages don't have the same rules around definite and indefinite articles as English does. There's no way of saying "the tree" or "a tree" in Japanese, for instance - it's all just "tree". If you want to specify, you have to say "this tree", "that tree" or "n number of trees". It's just how some languages work, and what you know is your foundation for how you learn

Can you actually waterstream all 3 into a grinding spot, but more importantly is it worth it?
>>

Hypothetically you can, but I don't really see the point besides doing it for the sake of it. You won't get anything from cave spiders that you can't get from normal spiders, and the fuckers can crawl through half-block openings so it's not worth keeping their spawner IMO

"Cheating" is what you consider to be cheating. I'm not currently using map addons as I wanted to do a more in-depth play in this world so I'm using compasses and in-game maps, but I have used minimap mods in the past.

Also, I have always played with KeepInventory on, which a lot of players consider cheating, but I consider it necessary to stop me from quitting when I die.

I think cheating is the things that make you feel like you've made your playthrough too easy. Do you feel like that?

If we get an official final versions, it would make more sense for modders to target that one, rather than making full-on expansions that break compatibility with other mods. I'm sure some will try - there's already plenty of large mods with low combability - but I don't see it being the main focus of the modding community

java deprecation means people could backport all the new updates to the final version without any of the shitty age verification or whatever other shit mojang tries to add like a marketplace. microsoft would sunset java if that would keep people from playing it, but since they cant really do anything but kill the license verification servers (offline servers have existed since forever so that would result in nothing but all servers requiring passwords) its less effort to just keep it alive and keep java players under their thumb.

I fucking hate modern building techniques with their gradients and different objects being placed on and around the building to make some depth. People can do as they please in their block game but I find it all offensively ugly. I see a simple little house with like 20 different nonsensical blocks creating a "gradient" for one wall and that shit covered in buttons and grinding stones or whatever hanging off for no reason and it's just a fucking mess, even in tutorials they look ugly who is pushing this shit everywhere I don't understand. Maybe it looks good from one very specific angle with you FOV turned down and shaders but that is an optical illusion it makes no sense when you actually walk around your world. Even the interiors are just a cluttered nightmare with nowhere to store anything because everything will be stored in the massive eye sore of a storage system.

You can still build beautiful things without throwing all logic out the window using sensical blocks and still keeping it practical and I think it usually looks better especially once more stuff gets built up around it

It's kind of like when someone draws a brick wall in the background in comics and stuff, they would often just draw random sporadic bits of the brick wall texture instead of drawing the full wall.
>>
>>559811172
That's different, though. If the same brick wall was shown up close, you would see each individual brick. Comic books are usually pretty stylized, so it works in context. Minecraft is a different story. I'd rather see stone mixed with andesite than cobblestone, or just stone bricks with the cracked and mossy variants
>>
>>559809419
Same
>>559811172
Yeah, that's also my theory as to why people do that, and also because they do the same thing in Lego sets.
>>559811819
>andesite
That's also a problem, though. It's intended to give it some texture, but it just looks like a random different type of rock was used.

I normally use it when I want a build to look like it's old and weathering or like this where I wanted it to look like a random assortment of different rocks stacked up to form a makeshift wall
>>
>>559813208
I feel like for years builders have been obsesed with making stone walls look old and weathered wherever possible, it's annoying.
>>
>>559814810
I have seen quite a few people use the technique with builds that don't make sense, like someone building a futuristic city or something and then the stone walls are old and weathered. I don't think it works in those instances, but if it makes sense with the rest of your build, I don't see the issue
>>
>>559819778
Reminds me of that one image where some artist is explaining how to make environments more interesting, and he's showing two stone staircases. One looks recent and clean, while the other is old, damaged and dirt. His whole point is that the latter is more interesting because it's weathered, completely ignoring the fact that a newly-built staircase wouldn't be weathered. Maybe block vomit wouldn't bother me so much if people used it appropriately, instead of slapping it onto everything just because

Railway stations tend to be a lot longer. You could even go asymmetrical, with a small flat on top that only covers like a third of the total length. That might look better, while also using less vertical space

Andesite surrounded by stone makes it look like the stone has become less polished, andesite in the context of cobble makes it look like the rock of the cobble have broken down into smaller pieces, there's a bunch of stuff that makes sense when you think about it, of course I never actually *think* when I see texture, everything is aesthetically instinctive, but these explanations I believe help ground those aesthetic intutions, and explain why have those in the first place.

To make art you have to use all of your brain; create with the right, and then step back and observe with the left. Being able to look at a wall and explain to yourself why it looks good or bad is just as important as designing it in the first place

Host: "Wow! Those sure look yummy!"
Agnes: "I know, right? I get hungry just looking at them!"
Host: "So how do we bake these pies, when they're finally added to the game?"
Agnes: "Well, we styled this mechanic after the suspicious stew, so you can make this pie crust, you know, and then add whatever ingredient you want to it for different results!"
Host: "Wow, so you can make like beef pies, and kelp pies?"
Agnes: "Yes! And even spider-eye pies, if you really want to!"
Host: "Wow, can't wait to try that! What effects will the pies have?"
Agnes: "We wanted these pies to be mostly for fun, like if you're playing with your friends you can trade pies with each other, you know, so they have very similar effects to suspicious stews. You get a short effect depending on the ingredient used, and it refills a bit of saturation."
Host: "Wow."

>>
>>559924952
No. That would be too violent, and could technically be considered harassments in an online setting.
>>
ok I wasn't going to mention this but now you mentioned pies so here it goes
how come we don't have to cook baked goods but we do have to cook meats?
Also if don't have to cook them why can't we just eat wheat/eggs? Is the game implying that by tossing in the ingredient in the crafting bench they are cooked? (why can't we have cooked eggs btw?)
so steve can eat both uncooked and cooked food, contradicting himself, but it's actual spoiled or rotten food that poisons him? meaning we can eat spoiled food but not raw?
wtf notch
>>
>>559928172
ive also considered cooked eggs, but they're just too easy
you can have chickens over hoppers over a furnace and get a basically unlimited supply of cooked eggs with virtually no effort
>>
>>559928852
I mean you can practically do that with most mobs too so I don't see a difference
wait ok maybe we shouldn't be able to spawn chickens with dispensers if we were to have cooked eggs
>>
>>559901913
Wait, so the next update is new baby animal models and.... that's it? Can't be all they've been working on. Guess they'll announce it at the event.
>>
>>559928172
Asking this is like asking "how can a player fit thousands of cubic meters of stone in their pocket". It's just a game, many crafting recipes are extremely simplified. If they ever expand on baking and (for example) add a special workstation where you can grind flour and work with dough, maybe cake and bread recipes will be moved from the crafting table to there like banner patterns were moved to the loom. Until then, assume that Steve does all the necessary cooking "offscreen".
>>
>>559929437
They have been working on stuff under the hood as always, but in terms of content that the casual player sees, yes, that's really it for this drop: some mob reskins and a flower. Whatever they show at the event will be for the next drop.
>>
>>559928852
That would be perfectly fine, if you need like 8 eggs to equal 1 steak, and boiled eggs still stack to 16
>>
>>559928172
Because the hunger system was slapped on as a quite fix for being healed by eating. There wasn't much thought to it, and there certainly wasn't any thought what so ever around cooking. We're still eating the same steaks, even though the rest of the game has changed so much

It's strange that, with all of the mod features they've added to the game, they haven't added anything that does what the mod that lets you cut down a tree by breaking a single block does. I feel like that's the most installed non-performance, non-UI mod of all time.
>>
>>559941943
It goes against a core game design principle at Mojang, one block at a time. Players can't break or place more than one block at a time. Seeing the first tree you tried to cut down float is also an iconic Minecraft experience with a lot of nostalgia behind it, they even referenced it in the movie. And how would they implement it? Mods like that tend to have some jank behavior.

Hello, /g/ poster here. Have any of you all ever wanted to dabble in game dev? I found a cool newish game engine for the web called Hytopia, the development process favors vibe coding. It's like a mixture of Minecraft and Roblox, where you build stuff in Voxels like Minecraft then can script a game in it with Typescript or Javascript.

Anyways the reason I'm here, here's the kicker. You can actually import your builds from Minecraft into the editor. So basically instead of doing all your assets in Blender with 3d modeling you just build like you're in Minecraft. I was wondering if any pro builders here would be interested in doing some web game dev with me. I've made multiplayer web games before just never with this engine.

I'm just giving the reasons why it hasn't been added yet. good morning bwothers, havent played minecraft in around 5 years and found this on unmodded bedrock. I thought that they got rid of the unnatural land formations, is this normal?
>>
>>560133724
yes, I'm just not sure if I have the time to start another world right now, so the content creation would also work as a sort of motivation to start a new world. I'll probably end up doing it either way though, because I've been reading through all the updates on the wiki, and I've got some ideas. I might just post my progress here without any sprt of videos

They didn't get rid of unnatural land formations, though it's pretty crazy how spherical that is, I don't think you could really find such a thing in old Minecraft. And crazy low render distance, too.
>>
>>560140890
Damn, that's some bulbous-looking terrain

What is this event and why is gerg there? More importantly, why do the pony textures and models look like they haven't been updated since beta 1.3?
>>
>>560070162
I like the uneveness. I built mine when I started in a basic open field and square, er, rectangle as fuck. Though I was trying to make as little environment change as possible, trying to preserve the original look of the surroundings, even the grass plants and flowers.

>>560159152
I mean the ruggedness that contours the environment.

The classic pony model has been perfect since Shadow of Israpony and has never really changed but they've added more distinctive models for other species (hippogriffs, changelings, zebras). Plus, bobblehead mode.

I like how it looks but I cannot bring myself to use doused campfires as decoration. I guess it would be cool to have a toggleable fire for certain builds thoughbeit...

>>559781650
But in general I agree here, especially what you said about the trend of perspective illusion designs. So dumb. I favor material realism

Mojang should release variations in textures for the same block. Stone brick patterns, chisel patterns. Would make the stonemason a lot more useful. Add that chiseled lapis too.

What is the current state of those ecelebs?
Did they finish Decked Out 2 yet?
I stopped following them like a year ago or so.
>>
>>560199167
I don't think that would be a good thing. Add too much detail and building becomes a lot more annoying, and not just because the inventory would end up even more cluttered
