I am steadily accruing hours on heavy so that he’s no longer my least played class. What’s the best loadout for when you’re playing offensive and your team does not have a medic? Do I just do tom/sandwich/steel or tom/sandwich/gru like most people do? I actually tend to prefer stock mini a lot of the time, but I only tend to use it on defense.

shotguns are perfectly fine if you’re not using the tomislav. it’s nice being able to defend yourself against roaming scouts, who would usually kill you before you can rev up. Shotguns are especially good when paired with the brass beast, they’re useful for protecting yourself while lumbering to your intended defensive position.

Do you use the "build X machine here" voice commands? Zesty in his podcast said they were outdated and never used, but I often find myself either requesting buildings from engineers on the team or using those commands to emphasize locations of where I want it.
